GODZILLA MINUS ONE (Atomic Vengeance, Courage & Redemption in Tokyo) EXPLORED

  • Godzilla Minus One is a film that's not just about a giant monster stomping around - but a deep dive into the soul of post-WWII Japan, a time when the country was as battered and bruised as a boxer after twelve rounds with Mike Tyson.
Director Takashi Yamazaki's not just rehashing the old Godzilla scares here; he's weaving a narrative that's as much about human trauma, guilt and redemption as it is about monster mayhem, tapping into the dread of Japan in 1947 - still reeling from the war and twitchy about the U.S.-Soviet saber-rattling.
Here, Godzilla isn't just a big, scaly metaphor for nuclear terror; he's the embodiment of every nightmare keeping us up at night. But Yamazaki doesn't stop there. He dives into the psyche of a nation stripped of its defenses, grappling with the mental and physical scars of war. It's like he's put the collective trauma of Japan under a microscope and invited us all to have a look.
In this video, we'll look at the story, its characters, the frightening new version of Godzilla, and the meaning of its ending.

Godzilla Minus One is a groundbreaking, harrowing journey. There's never been a Godzilla film full of tragedy, emotion, and perseverance. These characters mean so much to us that it's genuinely scary whenever Godzilla shows up. Depending on the character trying to escape his wrath, Godzilla might become the literal embodiment of death, fear, or war. It's like he's the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse wrapped into one pissed-off atomic reptile. Godzilla Minus One is not just a great film; it's an experience that needs to be witnessed firsthand in theaters.

I'm Japanese and while I prefer Japanese-made Godzilla movies, I'm very grateful for the Hollywood Godzilla films that started in 2014. They undoubtedly played a key role in reviving Godzilla, which had been losing popularity at the time. Without them, I believe this movie would not have been made (though I don’t consider the 1998 Godzilla to be a true Godzilla film, I do like it in its own way).
I'm also quite excited about the MonsterVerse.

Minus one probably is the best film of the year and the best godzilla film there is. A godzilla film that has interesting characters that you actually sympathize with and feels human. The film with be fine without godzilla because of how good the humans and the story is. Also the messaging about valuing one's life, anti-nuclear, anti-war and to never give up. This film and piece of art was made 15 million USD below, the movie gave us the message to have hope and seeing the film definitely gave me hope with cinema once again.

This has the best human story of any Godzilla movie, the visual effects are absolutely spectacular, especially for 15 million dollars, incredible music, and both times I've gone to see this, I've shed tears not just from hearing the nostalgic music, but also from the characters. I was hooked right from the beginning and wanted to see these character's survive Godzilla's rampage. what's often overlooked or simply not discussed is the fact that godzilla too is a victim and a survivor as much as any of the other characters here. besides his scarred and lumpy skin it's obvious he is a mutated, disfigured, version of the original pre-radiated godzilla; his rage is fueled by his physical pain. some insight to this is the scene where the explosion that mutates him depicts his screaming from the depths of the ocean. i think the mutated godzilla's odd gait is by design of the director to show this creature is struggling as much as he is creating havoc. like the frankenstein story 'godzilla minus one' shows us the real monster is mankind's hubris and cruelty.

I hope this flick opens some eyes. I'd love if comic book films, Star Wars, and the like all focused on story and characters more and dropped the CGI garbage that's constantly used to cover up how horrible the films actually are.

The message of living on, conquering trauma, finding new family and connection. I enjoyed ever moment of it too, as a long time godzilla fan. The beginning surpised me with them showing godzilla so soon and as a non radioatic kaiju but a prehistoric/cryptid creature. and then watching its first Atomic breath and then it subsequent Ginza Atomic breath which pretty much was the personal highlight of the movie for me. and the first incounter one the mineclears where its healing factor was displayed got a audible "Oh" out of me. watching the mc go on his journey of redemption and reconciliation hit hard. just an incredible work of art.

Minus One is tied for my favorite Godzilla, and Godzilla movie, of all time(he's tied with Shin). Yeah the movies made by Legendary are good in their own way, but they lack the feeling you get when you see the G-man being what he is: a massive, borderline unstoppable force, that is terrifying. Imo, Godzilla HAS to be scary, invoking fear into everything, wherever he goes.

Godzilla didn't attack on Odo island until he was attacked himself. This seemed to be the same with the nuclear weapons tests that hit him and mutated him, making him want revenge

In both of our opinions this is not only the best Godzilla film ever made, its one of the best films made in general. Both times I've cried watching it and am i really hope they release physical copies on DVD and BlueRay of it in the US. This is one of the few modern movies I want to buy

This film was never one I expected to take the number one slot on my list of Godzilla movies, but it did, and HANDILY. As a lifelong fan of the G-man, I never thought Gojira (1954) would be put into second place, I only hoped this one would be close to it in my heart. Takashi Yamazaki has placed himself in the history books with this film.

I have been a Godzilla fan since I was a kid in the 80s. This movie put every US Godzilla movie to shame, and I hope this new time line will sprout more from the same director. I have never been emotional in any Godzilla movie except this one and I found myself caring about the humans and not just wanting to see Godzilla fighting. Great movie \m/

What people are not understanding is that Tachibana did not install the ejection seat. It is a German design(as used on the the He-219) hence the German warning marking on it. He simply realized it, made sure it had compressed air to operate and instructed Koichi about it. The 219 was the first operational plane in history to have ejection seats.
Fantastic movie, have seen it 3X so far and I'm possibly going tomorrow to see it again. It's so good.❤

    • @christmassuy84
      @christmassuy84 Před 5 měsíci

He can increase the success rate of operations by eliminating ejection seats and increasing the amount of explosives.

    • @jprules2578
      @jprules2578 Před 4 měsíci

@christmassuy84 no. Not really. The size of the chair doesn't change all that much, and only a relatively small tank of compressed air is needed to actuate it. Canopy release charges aren't a problem either. Putting the explosives in place of two 30mm guns and that needed ammo is completely logical and feasible. Otherwise the plane simply will not have enough fuel, and as it is, the plane flew entirely longer than possible, considering its design did not have large internal reserves and it wasn't carrying any drop tanks.

When I watched Godzilla I never cared when Godzilla destroyed the city, I actually felt it was something cool, But when I saw Godzilla Minus One, seeing Godzilla trampling people, I felt sympathy for people,They are people who are trying to recover from the destruction of World War 2, but now they are starting to rebuild their lives A 50 meter tall monster came and destroyed their city, just like the allied forces destroyed their city in World War 2, Making the audience care about the characters in the film is a sign that your film is the best film

I am very happy that Godzilla minus one is accepted outside of Japan.
Godzilla was originally a monster panic film based on serious social satire and human drama, like this film.
The iconic Godzilla became so distinctive and popular that the sequel was produced as entertainment for children.
Therefore, the main character in most Godzilla series is Godzilla, and they were made so that anyone can easily enjoy monster movies, which has led to the formation of today's Godzilla fans.
That is why Gareth Edwards' 2014 Godzilla recreates the original 1954 Godzilla while creating a monster-verse of entertainment.
Meanwhile, in Japan, director Hideaki Anno has created Shin Godzilla, a film that focuses on social satire.
The similarity between 2014 Godzilla and Shin Godzilla is that both depict Godzilla as a "force of nature" or disaster beyond the reach of humans.
This is not surprising considering that Roland Emmerich's 1998 Godzilla was criticized for insulting the king of monsters that Godzilla fans sought to portray.
There is also a theory that Roland Emmerich intended to use the title Godzilla as a draw to make a remake of The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms. That may be the reason why the film looks like a diversion of the Jurassic Park staff and CG.
However, if Godzilla is portrayed as a disaster far beyond the reach of mankind, there is no reason to include a human drama.
This is the reason why 2014 Godzilla was not well received. The human drama like 1954 Godzilla was useless, having no influence on the story, while the dreamlike compositions of the amazing firestorm and the confrontation between monsters were dreamlike.
Shin Godzilla succeeded in depicting a straightforward human vs. Godzilla composition, but because its satirical target was the March 11 earthquake, tsunami, and nuclear power plant accident in Japan, the human drama was limited to a casual representation as a member of the government.
While there are certainly parts of each film that can be enjoyed, the film's seriousness, which is necessary to convince Godzilla fans, makes it difficult for many people to enjoy it.
Then came the dark horse, Godzilla Minus One.
Many long-running Godzilla films have been remade or rebooted.
Godzilla Minus One is one of them, but it is probably the most faithful remake to the original 1954 Godzilla.
The shock, fear, anger, sadness, and joy we felt in the theater were the same as those felt by the audience in 1954.
It is Godzilla minus one, a film that we can be equally enthralled with 70 years later.
