I like how Peter Jackson is so chill with every thing. Awesome guy.
Anyone who did the film, "Bad Taste," has got to be cool!
That's SIR Peter Jackson ONZ KNZM, to you mate! bahahahaa~ ;-) :-)
Kia ora. Everyone is New Zealand is that chill.
Jackson's idea/portrayal of women.....worth a couple of PhD's at least.
He’s not that chill.
He’s usually just distracted thinking about a million things at once.
It's good to see a truly happy Colbert. He was like a kid in a candy store.
In a carrot store.
He finally got the studio to spend big bucks in his favorite theme, probably told them John Oliver had the HBO blank check.
Always nice to see a wealthy, influential, middle-aged man happy...
@@mansnotbot4160 I'm getting a vibe of slight bitterness coming from you.
@@Charlienmeg some people think their happiness relies on others being miserable.
Stephen is the single luckiest Tolkien nerd of all time, and I couldn't be more jealous
The NZ stuff was recorded pre-corona.
He basicly does what every Tolkien Nerd would like to do... but wouldn't because it would be to silly.
yuuuuup!
@@HafdirTasare no, not because it's silly, but because we don't have that kind of money 😅
Yeah.....so jealous...
Stephen is so down to middle earth.

He is their love child. The chosen one.
@@whiteowl4097 couldn't agree more
YES! he certainly does!
Definitely!
It’s adorable how much of a nerd Stephen is. His absolute joy is palpable.
It's so sweet. You can see him trying to remain professional and "in character" as a host when he talks about the experience, but his eyes and smile give it away. He is absolutely thrilled to be living out his childhood dream.
"Concentrate, young Padawan, use the force..." I'm dying

Nailed it!
😄
I fully accept this deranged and elaborate fan fiction as canon.
Absolutely!!
I could actually imagine writing a whole Darrylgorn movie. I picture him as slightly jealous of Aragorn, King of Gondor, so he decides, as a half elf to take over the now abandoned elvish lands of Lindon, Lothlórien, and Rivendell and try to set up his own kingdom. And to further try to put himself on par with his half brother he tries to find some reason to have a quest like the fellowship of the rings, but there is just nothing that threatening going on. Still, he assembles two drunken hobbits who had been evicted from the Shire, a claustrophobic dwarf who can't live inside the mountains with the others, a very effeminate and not very powerful wizard called Pandor the Pink, and a very forgetful elf who is the last remaining in Middle Earth because he missed the boat when all the others sailed into the west. So, not knowing what noble quest they could embark on their fellowship sets out on a quest to find a quest, but keep coming up with things like "The Quest for the Missing Cat".

All the things Colbert's done in his life, all the choices, big or small, all the success and fame he has achieved...it all led to this moment. He looks truly happy here and I couldn't be happier for the guy (also jealous as hell).
Stephen looks so incredibly happy. You can tell his inner child was living in every moment.
you could see stephen resorting back into a kid.
bear in mind, stephen lost his dad in an accident when he's just a kid. LOTR is his way of making sense of the world, thats why he connected so strongly with it.
Wow, I didn't know that, thanks for sharing, really cool
The greatest gift they could give Stephen is making this canon by the Tolkien Estate.
Lol I love how you MUST talk about LOTR AT LEAST once every like 5 episodes or less. It brings me joy
There's no Stephen Colbert "the-super-famous-late-night-talk-show host" in this piece.
There's only Stephen Colbert "the-nerd-who-is-living-out-his-fantasies" here.
And I love him for it.
His pure joy is just so heartwarming - Steven is just a good person who appreciates the hard work of others & has a humble honest heart
This is the right way to use personal fame.
Stephen: did you not read the book?
PJ: no...
Hilarious 😂
In costume, he looks like a slimmer Richard Armytage, aka: Thorin Oakenshield.
I think it's Armitage, but yeah you're absolutely right.
He also looks a lot like robert Downey jr.
I'm with Stephen. Ian Anderson!
@@dannedifyoudo Had to check the comments to see if anyone else thought this!
@@dannedifyoudo Yes, and also had a lot of the same mannerisms and deliveries as Robert Downey jr.. I noted that on the full clip I watched awhile back.
I loved how your eye patch fell down during a strategic head turning moment.
This was fantastic. Stephen, we love you. (and we would love to have you on the channel!!) BUT... That was NOT Glamdring. That was Aragorns Ranger Sword. Hate to break it to you ;) Keep up the fantastic Lord of the Rings Content! :D
I was impressed when my son knew it was Aragorn's sword and not Glamdring right away too. When we read the comments to see if anyone else noticed and he recognized your name he said he was glad it was you that pointed it out to 'ol Stephen. Good catch! He has greatly enjoyed your channel :0)
I thought that the sword did not look like glamdring but aragorn sword as well but I though it was just me before I read this comment
My thought exactly! That's Aragorn's first sword. My all time favorite sword!
When I caught a glimpse, I thought it was Aragorn's but then he said Glamdring and I assumed he knew better than me 😂😂 and now I'm trusting HoA lol
The point of this video is to play dumb and make fun of the film. He’s claiming things as if he is a main role here like being a hot brother of Aragorn, having Peter Jackson as his servant who cameos a lot, claiming Gandalf as his friend, and eventually stating that he uses Glamdring when it’s not. Don’t you guys get it? Of course he knows it isn’t Glamdring and surely there is a whole lot of crews around him to tell him anything about that and correct him if he’s wrong. 😊
Hahaha Ian Anderson from Jethro Tull lol and he steps out singing Aqualung I'm dying here! 🤣
(I haven't laughed that hard in AGES)
watching Colbert be the ultimate LOTR fan nerd is epic!
"that little wierd green guy Yoda, why, that's Gollums father!!"

I'm so loving how *HAPPY* Stephen is - makes me happy to see him so happy 😊❤
Absolutely delighted to see Stephen enjoying himself so much! This is one of my Christmas gifts!
That's really sweetness, U must be an elf person.
The whole New Zealand thing is Stephen making his nerd dreams come true. And yes, we're all jealous.
Of WHAT?? MAKE your own dreams come true!
I haven't laughed this hard all year. Goddamn I needed this!
LMFAO: "Can you believe how expensive the shot was!?!?!"
Stephen: "Did you not read the books?" Peter: "No. But I saw the movies a bunch of times. Does that count?"
Imagine it they did a movie with Robert Downey jr and Stephen Colbert playing brothers
Yeah it looks like he needs more.
SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY
The off-the-cuff Aqualung was spot-on, and priceless!
As a life long Darryl, I approve of the characters name.
But are you a Darryl or do you just identify as a 'Darryl'?

He really actually did look pretty hot with the beard and the hair!
Is it weird I already knew the exact scene Stephen was in within a second of seeing the character. Man, I’m such a nerd, I remember tertiary characters, if he could even be considered tertiary.
I never thought a fellow Charlestonian would one day make it all the way to the Shire!
Maybe Stephen was confused and was heading to the Charleston on the West Coast of New Zealand's South Island.

I have a young tiny friend who happened to move to New Zealand with her husband shortly after they married. She got a job as a stand in dwarf, had to get glued into beard. She slid off a horse in a scene, and Peter Jackson yelled, "Dwarf Down!" God I love that story. I sent her these posts today. THANKS Stephen 😀
Thank you, Stephen, for helping me escape this horrible pandemic by living vicariously through your New Zealand experiences! These videos are awesome!
Um.
That's not Glamdring.
It's Strider's Ranger sword.
I got all the UC wall hangers... I can see it from here.
Sorry, Stephen.
I was going to say, Glamdring had a bit more glam and somewhat less dring.
YESSS! Thought I was going crazy lol like how (cause I know he’s a huge fan) did he not catch that?!
Shhh! Stephen's so happy, don't make him sad.
That was an incredible backstory. Great to see so many people that don't take themselves too seriously. Oh and when they play the LOTR music, my goodness it's soaring.
He looks so happy 😁
You can just tell from the smile reaching the very corners of his eyes that Stephen was genuinely, genuinely elated to be there. It was not an act.
As a New Zealander I keep taking for granted how gorgeous New Zealand is - we take it for granted so often - i do make a conscious effort at times to stop and just appreciate it - it really does look like this - yes, AND - the beaches, the bush - we used to have an old ad when i was growing up - 'dont leave town till you've seen the country' - thanks to my parents, I have been from the top to the bottom, and off the beaten track yet it is constantly on my to do list to explore more - just stop and just appreciate & be grateful
Edit: wow - I remembered it correctly lol

I'm in the same boat. I'm a city girl born and bred, and will keep living in cities, but my Dad and I have a yacht and we go out frequently to visit the islands in the Harbour Gulf or Bay of Islands and I'm always amazed by something I missed the last time we went there. It's so amazing.
I've been to the South Island twice. One was for a vintage car rally from Christchurch to Bluff and back to Christchurch, visiting all the small towns on the way. My Mum made sure we went to any local markets that we saw. I bought a woolen knitted jumper in Twizel that I don't have anymore but the hand embroidered hankies I got in Bulls I still have and use. :)
The second was just to Christchurch for one of my cousins weddings and Rakia to see one of my other cousins on his farm. But, we were planning on staying with him for a week but we only lasted 3 days. LOL. The scenery was beautiful but the cow smell was unbearable. LOL.
New Zealanders are so lucky to live in this beautiful country but like you said, we do take it for granted.
Wow! Stephen dedicating a whole new show to advertising NZ. I see an influx of tourists once this pandemic is over.
It has already begun. People are buying land or houses off the net from over the world. LOL.
I see a newfound respect for good governance, reliance on science in matters of disease management and population compliance!!😄🌅
Is no one gonna talk about how he looks so much like Robert Downey jr with that beard?
Honestly I think I’m almost as much as if not more of a Tolkien fan as Stephen, and seeing someone able to experience this knowing their love for it is as fierce as mine really makes me happy knowing someone so smart and kind as Stephen can experience it for us and show us the amazingness of that world
😂😂 With that beard, SC looks so much like Tony Stark
Dang, he got a real Hugh Jackman vibe going on there. At least before the stabbing trees scene...
I love seeing how happy this whole shtick makes Stephen. It makes me happy to see. Welcome back to New Zealand any time Stephen! (bring Evie!)
High budget Stephen Colbert/LOTR fan fiction. I love it.
This was such a joy to watch! Every.Little.Bit.
But that's clearly not Glamdring! By the pommel it looks like Aragorn's ranger sword.
It is. Good eye. I noticed that too. Glamdring has a similar pommel but it's buttress-shaped with a bullet tip-shaped rounded end. Aragorn's sword has a pommel that does have a bullet tip but with a nipple-shaped end. Plus the grip is a double grip with a metal spacer.
Someone must have told Stephen the wrong thing when handing him the sword and he didn't doubt them because he was probably geek-drunk (he would have probably blown about a 0.24 blood geek level). I bet he'd be slightly disappointed if he found out it wasn't Glamdring, but still cool it was Aragorn's sword, although not Anduril. Watching him use it, perhaps Sting would have been more up his alley.
I was in New Zealand last year and visited the Hobbiton set, this makes me all so happy
It really is a treasure to see someone's dream seriously come true. What a legend.
“Use the force” 😂
You know...i feel that special kind of jealous where you aren't even mad about it. Whether because you are just SO overwhelmed with how jealous you are that you've gone numb or youre genuinely happy for them....probably the latter im sure....
Tolkien's descriptions were so incredibly detailed that this could be created with such accuracy. Also amazing that as detailed as those descriptions are, it took this long to do it right!
I really love his little behind the scenes pieces about what was going through his mind. It makes it much more impactful and personal. I'm so happy he got to do this.
I would totally watch a feature-length version of "Darrylgorn: Lord of the Wrongs".
My God, Stephen is such a joy 😄
Kia Ora! Love this series Stephen. As a Kiwi, I'm so glad I live in this country and enjoy the freedom we have right now. We can gather for church, sports events and parties etc. Also want to let people know that Deer Park Heights is now open again for visitors. That's where Stephen and the team shot most of the Queenstown scenes by the way.
I'm so envious of your experience there. From one LOTR nerd to another, "well-played!"
