    Awesome video! Answered everything I came for. Turns out the pcie usb board I bought to connect multiple camera's/mic in was a 1x Lane only, which explains why my usb devices kept disconnecting. For anyone that has the same issue make sure you buy a card that has dedicated bus channels for each usb port, most if not all cheaper boards run on 1 or 2 unfortunately. Something I learnt the hard way but so grateful that I now know. Thank you once again Tao for a great video :)

    Thank you! I am building a new computer in a couple of weeks and have a small PCIe x1 WiFi card, but the smaller x1 slot on my motherboard will likely be blocked by my gpu card, and I came to see if the WiFi card I have would work on the other x16 lane slot that wouldn’t be blocked.

      Walker Guy It works. If the card fits in the slot it’ll run and run just fine. I’ve got a 1660ti in my top slot (the x16), and it covers the smallest slot, so I put my WiFi card in the bottom big slot (16x1 or something) and I can’t tell a difference. I play online and all that without a hitch!
      So yeah, give it a go!

    Hello Tao M Studio, thank you for your clear presentation of showing us on PCIe X 1, X4, X8, X16 could actually be slotted in to a PCIe X 16 Bus Slot in the mother board. I do have a question to ask, in this case, if I have a PCIe X 4 slot, does it also mean that a PCIe X 1 slot could be slotted inside it as well? || I believe you could do a video on PCIe X 4 + EVO 970 NVMe M.2 SSD, as I think this is going to be the new massive upgrade.

  • @RobertFierce
    @RobertFierce Před 5 lety

    You didn't talk about the fact that using multiple PCIE interface devices in multiple PCIE slots drastically lower the speed for the main PCIE bus lane.
    So basically you didn't explain that if you have multiple PCIE slots in your PC and you are using the main x16 slot for your GPU and then you ALSO use another PCIE slot on your motherboard that is also 16x for another device, then the lanes get shared whether the second slot is used for another VGA card or PCIE device and both lanes become x8. That means if you DO use two PCIE x16 slots then your Graphics card will run A LOT slower because another device is sharing the lanes. Look at page 1-8 on this manual to see what I'm talking about: dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/LGA1151/ROG_MAXIMUS_XI_FORMULA/E14940_ROG_MAXIMUS_XI_FORMULA_UM_V3_WEB.pdf
    It explains the PCIe modes.

    • @saturnGEEK
      @saturnGEEK Před 4 lety

      It's a simplified video explaining the differences in the size of the slot. It doesn't focus on incompatibilities or configuration changes on different motherboards.
      Each motherboard is different, and the number of PCI-E lanes are dependent on total PCI-E lanes available from the CPU, and how the motherboard configuration is determined.
      It's a simple video, and for those that just want to throw in a WiFi card for the first time, it's good enough for them. For those wanting to set up multi-GPU configurations, watch one of the larger channels like Linus Tech Tips or Techquickie that explain these conditions and limitations in far more detail.
