  • Spring has finally sprung and it’s a perfect time to start planning your summer boating adventures! This video explores numerous safe and/or free anchorages along the Hudson river North of Manhattan and NY Harbor. Cruisers, loopers and overnighters can find many spots along the Hudson River to anchor for the day or night, this video explores several I frequent and are familiar with. This part 2 is the continuation of the “Exploring NY Harbor” video I released a few months back. You can check out part one in the link below.

Chelsea YC ( on the East side of the river north of the Newburgh Beacon Bridge) has guest moorings for boats up to 36 ft. Free for up to 3 days. VHF channel 68 launch service 5-9 most days (all day on weekends) or you can anchor just south of our mooring field and dinghy to our club. We are welcoming

That’s great to hear! Too bad we didn’t know that when we were in NY. Lol. We were members of Mohawk Hudsons’ Awenke Yacht club. I was rear Commodore and treasurer for a year or so.

Can’t thank you enough. Been looking for anchorage spots for past couple years. Moved up from 24 ft Sea Ray to 31ft Sea Ray. I dock my boat at Whites marina in New Hamburg on the Hudson River.

Thanks for the props. I’m always looking for new spots to drop anchor on the Hudson. We’re trying some new locations this summer and will share them in a future video.

This is great, thank you I’m actually planning a trip at the end of July from Long Island up to the Hudson Pass bear mountain into Norris state park to go camping if there’s anything you recommend or think we should have for a trip like thanks

Great informationI have been following you the last two months. What software or navigation or chart plotter do you use?

Most of my pre trip planning is done on the Navionics boating app. I have a Garmin 942 on the boat for Navigation.

With ‘no wake’ zones in mind, how long does the NYC to Albany trip take? My boat can go +30kts.

All depends on the path you take. If you go outside on the ocean a bit, you can do it quicker. The no wake zones can slow you a bit inside. Entire length is 1700 miles so depends on your average speed.

Do those locks cost money to use and is their any place to fuel up around Troy

Canal fees have been waived the past several years for recreational boats. You can get fuel at Troy downtown Marina.
