  • Today I wanted to give a quick run through showing just how to setup and use the Minelab Vanquish 540, plus sharing tips and tricks as I hunt⛏️
    I will also be using the settings shown in the video to metal detect around a burnt down house, seeing what has been previously missed by the Equinox 800.

    G'day Luke, it seems you will have to sus out the sweet spot on that disk, to save you from the extra digging, or damaging anything, you probably know this already, but that screw in bottle top is most likely to be from a hot water bottle. Its amazing how such a small item IE: the ACF badge can have such a huge story behind it, love that stuff! Thanks Luke, see you next week! Cheers!

    Hey Luke! I’m enjoying the Vanquish videos! At about 7:55 you say you’re in User Mode 2. Could you please clarify this? I noticed you’re in the Custom setting. (Out of the Coin, Jewellery, Relic options). So have you chosen Coin mode then tweaked it to your liking and saved that as your Custom to use for this location? When I use the Vanquish, I sometimes switch between the modes in the same location. Relic to get a bit deeper etc, then back to Coin mode when I’m coming back from the other direction. Anyway, as always I appreciate your videos and sharing your vast knowledge, passion and skill. Happy Easter!!

      I stated user mode in the video at 7:55 but meant to say custom mode sorry mate. Great pick up!
      I haven't played around to much with the other search modes but feel custom is the best to start off with for me, so I can change settings and learn as I go.

      * One of the first things that I learned in ( Metal Detecting ) is to do your "Research".., (e.g., coins found in the area or any gold found in the area, read history maps of the area, etc...) * Back ( history ) of the area..., will save you a lot of time and headaches... Ask yourself one question: #1) "What has been found in the area in the past and how much ?" Research and narrow your search area..., where something ( valuable ) has been found in the past... Good hunting and a little research..., goes a long way... "Semper Fi" Mike in Montana :)

    I’ve just bought this machine , I’m a total beginner and live 25 meters from the beach that has roughly 5 miles if coastline , I have bought a little hand held shovel and a sand scoop/ sieve , is there anything else you would recommend I buy as a beginner (btw I am female so not very strong with weight) would you recommend the smaller coil or the larger for the beach ? Also I read the previous comment from someone reference the screw in the coil , is it meant to have play in the coil as I haven’t tightened the screw in really tight just comfortably tight if you know what I mean ? ! Hello 😀 I'm soon to buy my first detector and am looking at the 540 because i've heard that its a good all round unit. Can go from beach to park and back again 😁 but have seen that the coils are waterproof but what about the unit itself? Seen that it comes with a rain cover but does that mean its not waterproof? I know that it sounds like a dumb question given that it comes with a rain cover one would suspect that it isnt waterproof but just want to know for sure if is or not.

    • @DigItDetecting
      @DigItDetecting  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi there @Chris Mann my coil is generally fairly loose and only needs adjusting every so often to run flat on the ground. I also use a coil stiffener support bracket just to stop any cracks or breaking of the coil eyelets. After a while your coil rubbers will wear in and should hopefully find the correct place to sit for future.

    • @DigItDetecting
      @DigItDetecting  Před rokem

      Hi there @KHAANZOR thanks heaps for watching mate. You are 100% spot on there with the Depth bars being mentioned. Each bar showing on the screen represents 50mm (or 2inches)
      So 2 bars would be 100mm and 4 inches deep, and you would know that it could possibly be something older being buried deeper.

Should i dig more on that spot or not?

    Doesn't it need to be above ground to do noise cancelling rather than touching ground?. Not saying I know. Just asking

    • @DigItDetecting
      @DigItDetecting  Před rokem +2

      A great question @Andrew Taylor the Vanquish series detectors have an automatic noise cancel process that occurs every time the detector is powered on, calibrating the detector to cut out the excessive noise.
      It recommends in the Vanquish manual that for best results, the coil should be held stationary just above the ground until the startup Automatic Noise Cancel is complete (indicated by two large dashes displayed on the Target ID Number field) If your detector is still experiencing EMI interference then you can reduce the sensitivity down further until it's running quite.
      I really hope this helps when out hunting next, best of luck mate👍

    • @andrewtaylor2785
      @andrewtaylor2785 Před rokem

      @@DigItDetecting yes cheers. I just wanted to point out as looked like your detector was on the ground when you showed us. I will use your method for changing sensitivity as I always get a lot of chatter but don't like losing depth so will try this technique when I go on my next dig.
      I'm currently reading about the best mode to have it on as I go between coin mode and relic, and all metal for double checking of it's iron, but with the depth and recovery differing between the two modes I think one is best suited for trashy ground than the other

      When holding the horseshoe button down on the Vanquish 540 @WESTERN NY BIGFOOT it will set it to low iron bias and display the little nail on the screen.This allows the detector to better identify coins amongst dense ferrous trash and potentially stopping the detector from masking those good signals.
      Then push and hold Horseshoe button to reset back to a High iron bias.
      I hope that all makes sense. Be sure to check out some of my Equinox videos where I explain the settings I run and why using the low iron bias is so important in trashy areas. Best of luck👍⛏️

      Definitely a 540 in my opinion @ClaudioVip98 they are well priced, light and easy to use. And ideal for detecting those trashy sites👍⛏️

    The first dime you found was not 1920. It's a Roosevelt dime which was made in the 40s. Obviously a easy mistake with foreign currency unless your a big numismatic person

      Thanks so much for watching @3 Star Perfect Deer and your right to mate. At the end of the video I managed to get a date off this coin and realised it was alot later round the 1940s.
      Cheers again for watching, I look forward to catching you on that next hunt👍⛏️

      The Vanquish is definitely my preferred option for detecting @Raub Gräber but all personal preference really as they are both quite capable machines

      It sure is @Dawn The Metal Detective although I didn't even realise at first when finding. It wasn't until I cleaned it up that I realised🙂 What a ripper🙌

    How deep can it detect?

    • @DigItDetecting
      @DigItDetecting  Před rokem

      General speaking @Dimas.M the Vanquish can detect up to 8-10 inches deep I have found, although that does come down to target size, coil size and of course ground/soil conditions.
      The more trash or false signals, or even mineralisation in ground can effect depth.
      All round the vanquish range are a very capable detector and well worth the money I feel🙂
      Best of luck and happy hunting out there👍⛏️
