  • In the year 2000, Microsoft released Windows Pocket PC. This was the base framework that would result in Microsoft selling Windows Phones in the early to late 2010s. In this video you will see how Windows Phone has evolved from Pocket PC 2000 up to Windows 10 Mobile.
All footage with the exception of Windows Pocket PC 2002 were recorded by me. Pocket PC 2002 screenshots from BetaWiki: betawiki.net/wiki/Windows_Phone

The jump from 6.1 to 6.5 looks massive, the same as from 6.5 to 7

Actually, these are the Comparisons between Windows Mobile and Windows Desktop (PC) :
    - Pocket PC 2000 (Windows CE 3.0) : Based on Windows 2000
    - Pocket PC 2002 (Windows CE 3.0) : Based on Windows XP
    - Windows Mobile 2003 (Windows CE 4.0) : Based on Windows XP
    - Windows Mobile 5 (CE 5.0) : Similar with Windows Longhorn [2005]
    - Windows Mobile 6 (CE 5.2) : Between Longhorn and Vista [2007]
    - Windows Mobile 6.1 (CE 5.2.xxxx) : Based on Windows Vista [2008]
    - Windows Mobile 6.5 (CE 5.2.xxxx) : Based on Windows 7 [2009]
    - Windows Phone 7 : Based on Windows 8 [2010]
    - Windows Phone 8.x : Based on Windows 8/8.1 [2012-2013]

  • @JackStavris
    @JackStavris Před 6 měsíci +5

You can really see the pre-iPhone UI of Windows Mobile 6, and then the post-iPhone UI of Windows Mobile 6.5. I remember 6.5 having a nice Zune-like home screen and a cool but weird Start menu, but it was just lipstick on a pig. Aside from the HTC HD2 which was actually good, WM 6.5 devices were utter crap in 2009/2010, resistive touch on most of them, a lot had third party UIs on them to hide the ancient Windows Mobile underpinnings like HTC TouchFlow (which became HTC Sense on Android). I think there was a prototype version of Windows Mobile 7 which planned on continuing the lineage of WM 6.5 but they scrapped it as it just wasn't going to be competitive.
Windows Phone 7 couldn't have come soon enough, and if it had come out in 2009 instead of 6.5 it might have actually had a chance at success. By late 2010 the market was already conceded to iOS and Android, and I get that I sound like a Monday morning quarterback using hindsight, but I remember even then thinking it even though I used Windows Phone for many years all the way through Windows 10 before I went to Android in 2016 and eventually back to iOS in 2018, as Windows 10 Mobile was just so lackluster even on the Lumia 950. It was just too late unfortunately as I still think Windows Phone 7 has aged really well in some areas, like the hubs for media and social were a brilliant idea, and the browser UI being on the bottom. Found it particularly funny when people praised Apple for giving Safari the UI on the bottom in iOS 15 yet I had it on my Windows Phone a decade prior.

Windows Phone 7 used Silverlight for it's APIs, which was a port of Windows Presentation Foundation to the web, itself being an evolution of .NET.
Windows Phone 8 used WinRT for it's APIs, or at least a subset of it, which was very similar to the APIs used for Windows 8's Metro apps. WinRT was kind of a fork of .NET, similar but not quite the same thing.
Windows 10 Mobile of course used the Universal Windows Platform for it's APIs, which were an evolution of WinRT and were the same as the Desktop version of Windows, hence the name. These still survive today, but are deprecated as of Windows 11 in favor of Microsoft's current offerings. All are loosely based off of .NET though.

Obs being open source its easy for bad people to put malware ransomware spyware you name it inside , and he didnt go to a sketchy looking website the website appeared first on the google search and looked IDENTICAL to the official one too , Well in linux you can install stuff with a simple command and if you dont know how or simply dont care to learn(its ez thought it was hard at first) you have a store that acts like playstore , a store for software that are all free and safe , thanks to steam and the YEARS of hardwork of the community (other than steam) linux is becoming the goty , i remember getting my disk drive viruses and got a txt file saying pay like 5000$ or youll lose your precious data 😂 , you know the funniest ? You can even run windows inside linux with a virtual machine and give windows a restricted access to only some folders so its like you put the bad dog inside the cage , ive done that some times because some software is windows only , for example if you want to change the custom rom a xiaomi phone , if you want to patch a rom to be cia on to be played on a 3ds...etc. Sorry for the long talk , some people are unfamiliar with linux so there are linux customizations that look exactly like windows to put your toes in the bath , why dont you try it out ? If you have a spare old pc that doesnt run well on windows because *ItS ToO OlD* well in linux it can run butter smooth. Do use youtube and chatgpt to learn the ropes , if you dislike a distro well no problem there are LOTS , ranging from newbie to pro users.
