Cherokee Word of the Week: Basket

Basket weaving is an important part of Cherokee culture since before European contact. In fact, fragments of Cherokee rivercane woven baskets have been found dating to the 1400s and 1500s and some scholars believe Cherokee basketry may have begun as early as AD 600.
