    “He is, I think, a contemporary Father of the Church.”
    - Archbishop Alexander (Golitzin), on Elder Aimilianos of Simonopetra Monastery on Mount Athos
    As you may be aware, the great Elder Aimilianos of Simonopetra reposed in the Lord yesterday, and today was his funeral. Providentially, I was recently blessed to have interviewed one of his disciples, the OCA's Archbishop Alexander (Golitzin).
    May his memory be eternal!
    His Eminence Archbishop Alexander is a graduate of Oxford University, was Professor of Patristics at Marquette University, and is currently the OCA's Archbishop of Dallas, the South, and the Bulgarian Diocese.

    Flat out amazing! The Archbishop’s book The Living Witness of the Holy Mountain is one of my all-time favorites - and to hear his thoughts just after the Elder’s repose is a privilege. Your timing can’t be beat.

    I recently had the privilege of meeting his Eminence during a Saturday night (Sunday) Vespers, and had dinner with him and Fr Don Anthony, and other members of St Elia the Prophet Orthodox Church. I am so humbled of what a privilege it was after watching this video. Thank you so much for posting it.

    Thank you. May God be Praised and Glorified through these works.Bishop Alexander, joyful to say he is our Bishop here in Michigan, is a wonderful example of Christ to us all. His deep love for his mentor should make us thirst for the same in the relationship with our own spiritual Father's. Praying we all find lessons in life from Father Amilianos and Bishop Alexander that we may live a life pleasing to God.

      What do you mean Bulgarian Diocese in OCA? Is that divided by national churches somehow in OCA, I did not expect it. Or I am misunderstanding what you said.

    • @joshua_wherley
      @joshua_wherley Před 5 lety +1

      @@radicr there are both regional dioceses in the OCA (South, West, Midwest) and "ethnic" dioceses (Albanian, Romanian, Bulgarian). All are typically English-speaking, though.

    I am a former Protestant pastor of 23 years, who also served as a missionary to Russia for a number of years. My formal education was in Biblical studies and Greek. While living in Russia I was introduced to Russian literature, in particular I was captivated by the work of Dostoyevsky, “The Brothers Karamazov” being my favorite of his works. It was through such literary works that my thinking began to explore spiritual concepts outside of Protestantism. Only recently have I begun to study the history and teachings of the Orthodox Church, and in so doing I discovered the book: “The Way of the Spirit” by Archimandrite Aimilianos of Simonopetra. To say that this work is transformative is a vast understatement! I am reading with a sense of treading on holy ground.

    I did not get to meet him, but I was in attendance at a Hierarchical Liturgy in which his Eminence participated. He's the first Orthodox Bishop I've seen in person and, as an inquirer wary of church hierarchy, I was comforted by his calm, humble demeanor. Even from afar I could see he understood that the way up is the way down. Thank you for interviewing him!

    The Archbishop visited our Cathedral where i was Sacristan. I cared for his attire and he totally snubbed me. Not even a nod when i greeted him. Having a Nun who was Sacristan was unusual. These are often arrogant men ..people who are pumped up by programs like yours that cater to a cult of the intellect. This is not humble or gentle. Not what we should imitate. These intellectuals in the church need to sit down quietly and look in their hearts ...stop the interviews for awhile ...go to their Center and relearn to Love and treat their neighabor with the charity He taught us.
    Stop this cult of intellectual hierarchy!
    You are killing the simplicity He teaches us to embrace! Follow the One not the many!
