I met John once when I used to work for Sony Music. The dude took the time to meet record label staff before his gigs. And he'd hang. No rush. He'd ask you questions and try get to know you. I liked that about him, he was genuine. Anyway, I fell in love with him from that point on and really got into his albums and this became my fav song of his.
It's a hell of a tune. Masterpiece even.
Holy shit its Karl rock
Hey Karl, I hope you’re doing aight man.
@@jcwab Doing ok bro. Thank you 🙏
Well well well....look who's here. Small world huh. Sometimes you just forget content creators can be consumers too! Karl Rock, you should totally check out his new album called 'Sob Rock' (I tried to make it rhyme but nvm). Also, hope you get your Indian Visa and get to be with your family soon :)
You don't understand how hard it is to play that solo unless you play the guitar. He makes it seem easy. John Mayer is a fricken BEAST.
That's So True! The guy is phenomenal on guitar
Not just the solo, all the stuff he does in his guitar while he sings..
Gabriel Pacheco DUDE! that's exactly what I was thinking.... he does some insanely wild stuff all while singing! WTF.
John Mayer is a blues legend and criminally underrated guitarist, he could play lead in any band easily. When Eric Clapton the man himself gives you the highest praises....You're in the club.
Underrated? By who?
Yea but I wouldn't sat he was extremely underrated. I mean he is a 7 time Grammy winner. And he won em when internet had no relevance and when Grammys weren't full of politics. So yea I think JM just doesn't have anything else to write about rn cuz he wrote out and sang all his emotions out 10 20 years back already. He ll go down as a GOAT in pop rock what a legend he is .
Even Ritchie Blackmore said he likes John Mayer
You damn skippy!!$
he's a great pop musician. eric clapton is a fuckin wanker, and not really that great of a guitar player anyways.
I bought the wrong guitar, mine doesn’t do that
Same
do what? Sex?
I wrote to Fender explaining this waiting on a reply, I think it might be the pickups not too sure.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA SO ORIGINAL OMG DID YOU MAKE THIS COMMENT
Yeah; I sent mine back to Fender too; They probably have a special dumpster out back of the factory, just for "JM inspired Strat Returns"
This guy's guitar work is out of this world.
😂😂 it so is...
Check @alipbata
Mmmmm
Best in the world
I had none dea he was so good until I saw him play with Bob Weir in the Dead and Company tour. Incredible.
that voice is so beautiful that you dont give a fuck the room is burning. all you care about is that youre slow dancing with john mayer.
YES LETS BE REAL NOW
***** Hahahahaha
Hahaha hahahahahah totally true!
he uses auto tune... said he is not a singer.. just a guitar player.. wtf right ?
no offense to john, but he is most certainly NOT a singer
Love him or hate him he's one of the best guitarist in the world
Dedinately. Amazing player.
Whos gonna hate this guy man may all time favourite guitarist ❤
I remember the first time I saw him shredding a solo in a crossroads festival video and it changed my whole musical perception.

I don't think there's a more sexy song about a relationship that's going to hell.
Ryann F word
Amen
Two by the Antlers is better song about a relationship going to hell, not sexier though.
Robert Cray - Right Next Door (Because Of Me) ;)
Hahaha
His fender gave birth 9 months after this live
U MEAN BLACK ONE?
😂😂😂😂
Anybody watching different live performances of this song just to appreciate the different ways he can play this masterpiece?
Yes, this one is my favorite though. The end solo always leaves me with a feeling. His touch is incredible, the guitar is really an extension of himself at this point.
Just saw him in his SOLO tour; he opens with this song on acoustic guitar-He is simply superb, & he’s matured into a more humble, self-respecting MAN, which only adds to his gravitas & greatness!! A BEAST that cannot be denied. Full stop.
I put that concert right in my top 3: Jack White @ Red Rocks, & Queens of The Stone Age. John, Jack, & my beloved Josh… each different, but each tight as hell, & absolutely beautiful improvisers! Just amazing. My son is a guitarist. He too is basically crushed by John’s broad & completely unique talent. Those solo riffs🤯🤯🤯🫶🏼🙆🏼♀️😭
Ha, yuuuuup! ❤😂
Dang, so much feels in that solo. Say what you want about John Mayer and compare him to other guitarists when at the end of the day there is no point doing that - the man can really play and is the real deal!
Timliu92 dude he just shreds my heart to pieces before the end
After taking a listen in John Frusciante's solos... I can't feel anything with anything else
Igor Lisboa I love both Frusciante and Mayer. I strongly believe that they are two of the best guitarists of all time.
Timliu92 I like John Mayer but Carlos Santana is my personal favorite. What's your favorite guitarists guys?
Ii's art. Not a competition.
I think that guitar spoke about four different languages...my goodness
Cerrone Samuel only four?
Music speaks all languages
Sound about right think I even heard a little Bulgarian cursing right at the middle of the song
Cerrone are you BIack???
@@tigerstripe3820 wait what
As a guitarist and a huge Mayer fan, can’t tell you how brilliant the bit from 2:35 to 2:50 is..
It’s mad. I got mesmerised watching it. Then he kicks in with the solo and adds the tap in for the fun of it. Mad.
2.50 - 3.05 is better
@@richat1691 slidin and improvising like you know what the fretboard is gonna sound like is a VERY big skill. The slide part was masterful. He know how to build up to a solo
Hey Abhinav - as a guitarist for almost 50 years now, I 100% agree with you - simply beautiful, understated, lyrical and utterly perfect for that moment in the song. This is why people should be inspired by their guitar heroes but always cut their own path and NOT try and imitate their sound and style. Sure I've "stolen" licks and ideas from all the greats, Mayer included, but there is a saying that "comparison is the thief of joy" which always rings true to me. I can never be Hendrix, Page or Mayer - I can only be me, just like they could never be Chuck Berry, Muddy Waters or BB King. Mayer is a true great of modern blues. Last guy close to him in last 30 years for me was Robert Cray. Anyway... those sublime slides man 😍
@@richat1691 0:00 to 6:36 is better
why is everyone commenting about rose? This is JOHN MAYER. Greatest guitarist in the world.
Because we discovered this great song because of her. No hate pls, John mayer himself appreciated her by giving her a guitar 🎸 ❤️
Finally someone! pisses me off that people find Rose's performance more fascinating! what a waste!

I really liked gravity
Vultures.
Agun Wiriadisasra “belief” is awesome too. Continuum is an amazing album. Definitely my favorite, but if you’re looking for live John Mayer, “where the light is” is an amazing album.
I come back here sometimes when I want to remember what real music sounds like.
same:)
seen.
Exactly
Exactly
I come back to this page just read this comment!
My whole dream in life is to pull off something as casually perfect as that tapped note at 3:10. He slips it in there with such coolness. I'm a little bit gay for that tap.
That was a smooth slip
Man I don't even play guitar but that was so perfect and seamless
I almost slapped my laptop screen at that point out of frustration.
Dude I come back to this video just to see that tap lol
It's like when you see someone so beautiful it makes you angry
4:28 …man. That opening to the outro solo is one of the most heartbreaking things I’ve ever heard someone play on a guitar. Nothing he’s played before or since comes close to the beauty of that solo.
And not to mention the mid solo.
What a masterful performance. The sound of the band, John’s incredible playing and the great sound mixing make for one of the most beautiful performances of any song ever.
agreed something about those opening bends
And more precisely this phrase 💔: 4:32
Shout out to Professor Snape on the second guitar!
+Ivaylo Keremidarski RIP :(
+Ivaylo Keremidarski A young non-professor Snape.
+Gabo Palacios He finally broke away from James' bullying. Good for you, Snape.
+Ivaylo Keremidarski Shout out to james franco on lead vocals
And shout out to Terry Crews on vocals 2:22
3:10... not technically difficult but the finnesse he pours into it man. blown away
That's the crossroads between someone who plays by the book, and someone who plays by feel, and JM has feel in spades. Just look at Taking on Water.
well said inside out anus haha

I hate how good he thinks he is and that he's right.
Gosh, he’s an artist. That’s pure expression.
Thank y'all for your love and support,I really appreciate🥰❤️
Beautiful song, and it's like it was designed to play live. There is so much room for improvisation in it. The way the song is structured, it really doesn't matter what kind of solo you play. You can play something slow or shred your ass off, and it will sound good. This is the true mark of a great and truly underrated songwriter.
2:22 - Terry Cruise singing back up vocals lol
john siafega AHHAHSHAUSAHUAHAHAHAHAH
The EXACT same thing I think every time I watch this! Dying of laughter!
lmao just said that exact same thing on 'If Ever Get Around...' dont forget about Professor Snape on the other guitar
+Prince Slater Loool omg! Professor Snape is there too! HAHA! What is going on? 😂😂😂
+Soitsbabs 😆 right though?!
5:59 buddy is a literal machine
His music is what music is fundamentally about, expressing emotions and thoughts. It’s not flashy, you have to really pay attention to it.
"it's not flashy" as he proceeds to melt the everloving fuck off of everyone's faces with one of the best solos ever recorded. Lol jk I know what you mean.
Nice put.
Experiences to inspire, motivate, entertain
There are no bad versions of this song.
But this one's the best!
Eric clapton says john mayer is a master guitarplayer. enough said
I think I'd fall out on the floor if that was said about me.
He also said that about Eric Johnson...
And then there’s Mark Knopfler and Stevie Ray Vaughan who make this sound mediocre at best
James Harris mark knopfler? Really?
@@JS-rp7qb Although James' comment is utterly useless, I agree with him that Mark is indeed one of the greatest, but there is no point in comparing guitar players that have different styles and are from different eras.
Damn, Snape on guitar, Terry Crews on backing vocals, Paul McCartney on bass and David Harbour on drums... Great line up!
Lmao
Lol. When I saw Terry Crews singing I thought "whaaaaaat?"
exactly
McCartney on bass 😆
That’s funny- I didnt see Snape until the end-
John Mayer is an absolute beast. One of the greatest of all time. Hendrix would be happy to meet him.
A performance so potent the entire front row became pregnant. How can one man have such power?
Incredible. He should have had the name John Legend.
Joe H thats a good one hahahhha
Haha :) True
John Legend already exists :D
already taken i guess
That solo was the most John Mayer thing I’ve ever seen

Yeah and it was fucking awesome!
The greatest guitarist of our generation.
I think there are better guitarists - Brad Paisley, David Grissom, Philip Sayce and Eric Gales spring to mind. But Mayer is very good and if you think he is the greatest then your opinion is as valid as mine.
Not bad looking either.
@@kevinjohnbetts check out the band earthless. Fucking killer guitarist
@@ryansoltwedel1041 Isaiah Mitchell? I know of him so I must have heard him. I will check the band out when I have some quality time to spare. So many really good guitarists out there it's hard to keep track of more than fraction of them. 😎👍
@@kevinjohnbetts someone just posted Brad Paisley and John Mayer crossroads from way back when Mayer's 2nd album debuted. And its impressive. Brad is great but you can tell Mayer is on a different when they are playing. Also it's back when Mayer wanted to make sure everyone knew he could shred and he was certainly showing off during some bits lol especially on "come back to bed".
That tap though. 3:09
God, he just makes that thing wail. Hardly even need lyrics.
Here bc of Rosie Posie and her beautiful cover of this masterpiece. Thank you for introducing this to me

Solo and 'go cry about it..' part.. Listening over and over again, still not sick from it after all these years
As a guitar player, this was fkn amazing to watch
I'm here just putting John Mayer with Jimi Hendrix and SRV..... He is truly a legendary guitarist of our generation and is a phenomenal live performer
Can’t agree more.
you can say what you want about him but he still a great guitar player and a genius is fact
i like how many ways he can perform one song. Amazing artist. Definitely one of my all time fav artist.
Probably one of the best prodigal musicians this generation.
Everybody refers to his guitar prowess, deservedly. But the lyrics are perfect.
I like the fact the backup singers are dancing along and enjoying themselves.
started learning the solo... no problem... then I got to 2:56.... and I threw my guitar out the window
That little tapping lick right after that is fucking amazing, i think im going to try to learn the whole solo just for that
Shouldn't have done that... Oh yes, right thing to do after trying it on a les paul.
Also threw guitar out the window ... damn that shit is insane
That’s gotta be one of the best soul-flavored runs I’ve ever heard.
First you must become the guitar.
In case anyone is wondering that is what real musicianship looks and sounds like.
ARE YOU KIDDING ME!? First time tearing up watching a solo. Wow.
John Mayer is one of the best guitar players and writers in 21st century America. The detractors should buy a JM songbook for Continium and try playing this song as Mayer wrote it, its not easy trust me... his complex chords and musical arrangements are not for Amateurs or even average players....
I agree, it takes much more than an average guitarist to play this stuff, let alone write it.
I totally agree.
i'm an advanced guitar player and "Neon" is still very difficult to me haha
Diego Palominos hell yea it is ha the whole beginning of Where the Light is has to be some of the best acoustic work ive ever seen, plus he doesn't mess up hardly the entire show and its all live.
I don't even think it's even just playing the music! You've gotta be able to have the feel and rhythm! Even then u won't play it the way he does :)
that solo made me cream

0:47 This is how great of a performer/musician John Mayer is. He knew that note was flat, but he laughed it off and kept going! He's golden.
If he's good enough for The Dead, he's good enough for me.
That solo is easily one of his bests. Like, Covered in Rain kinda good.
Neil Haynes definitely
that right hand hammer on at 3:10 JESUS CHRIST... #MAYERISALL
+Alan Wolfe tapping is so nice when it's tasteful
+Alan Wolfe Thats not very difficult.
+Prenner111 no one said difficult. difficulty does not equal how good something is. he varied the solo riff by adding that in and made it sound beautiful. But if you're on a John Mayer video to fight about technicalities you're in the wrong place.
yaa people call it tapping
Yea and tapping is a grouping of sequential Hammer ons...
He is one of the best, most soulful guitarists alive today. The kind we’ll still be watching, listening to, enjoying, 50 years from now. Legacy being built right here. Right now.
I discovered John Mayer (which has changed my life for the better, and especially my guitar playing) when I watched an interview with him online, and the riff for slow dancing was playing in the background really low while John was talking to the interviewer. As soon as I heard the riff I knew the world was a bigger place than I thought before.
Very well put 👌
that is the most soulful solo I've heard in LONG time!
I wonder if people in the audience realized what they were witnessing in this performance? This is one of the most stylishly masterful, technically magnificent, live guitar performances ever captured. Clapton, the greats...anyone who plays would agree...after they picked their collective jaw up off the ground....I guarantee. Think what you will about the man or his celebrity or whatever - but there aren't any left like this. Just had to be said. Carry on with your day.
I love John Mayer, he is too good to compare with....❤️❤️❤️
I went and saw John Mayer recently and afterwards I had a conversation with my father about how he stacks up with some of the greats. We both agreed that not only is he up there with Clapton, Hendricks, Paige, etc., but he's probably the last one of their kind. No one does this shit anymore.
He's a good guitar player and pop song writer, but he and this just don't do anything for me ..

I don't like all his songs. But some are absolute masterpieces
And just once in my life I want someone to touch me like he touches his guitar. Perfection
He makes guitar instrument look so sexy
The guitar solo FIRE, this song ABSOLUTELY FIRE
3:10 Even that little tap to bend and pull away pluck with his right hand blows my mind. You wouldn't even notice if you didn't play guitar. I don't like all of John's music but when he's playing I listen and watch.
Damn it I need to see him Live

This guy ranks amongst the greatest guitar players I have ever heard - but the difference is that he sings as well
And arguably his best attribute is his songwriting.
Why haven’t I listened to this guy before? Not only is his music great but he’s one of hell of a guitarist.
That first solo is literally sex on guitar. So beautiful. Although it wasn't one of his more complex and intricate solos, it was still so powerful through its beauty.
Soulful.
This is one of the greatest live solo he ever did ! Flawless !
Rosé has so beautiful taste in music😍 so grateful to Rosé that I got listened this song
His vocal is not always on point, but his guitar play is f'ing amazing. Most underrated guitarist in the world.
Lasse Petersen this ones right after his vocal surgery
John Mayer is far from beeing unrerrated. Ask Clapton, Buddy Guy, Ed Sheeran, Alicia Keys or any muscian out there.
He may not be underrated among fellow musicians but he's sure as hell underrated by the average person.
only by the average person who only listen to the radio hits..
I totally agree with how amazing he is, However I wouldn't say under rated by any stretch of the imagination. Everyone knows this man, he's played with BB King and many others. He's doing well for himself. As he very well should. There is one pretty underrated guitarist I know who deserves more credit, and his name is Rabea Massad. Look up some of his 10-15min jams with his friends on youtube. He does a lot of stuff I love with blues and rock. Not a real big fan of his metal stuff, but to each his own, he's still awesome.
I'd like to had seen Prince and John Mayer perform a duo, then have them play alternating solo's. Both being great performers not just behind a mic, but their ability to make their guitars gently weep.
I miss his 2007 voice. Once in a lifetime vocals are just that.
Come here to hear the original version after heard the cover version by Rosé. Now both are on my fav playlist :)
Good lawd. Probably the most well timed tap I've ever seen.
Amazing. It‘s all in the details
In every aspect outstanding musician. Those are rare nowadays...
I think I was 14ish when Continuum came out and I really didn't appreciate the songwriting and musical abilities of John Mayer until 20's. Definitely a whole lot of my peers feel the same and some barely discovered him past few years. Amazing musician all around.
I was 19 and when I first heard Continuum I knew it was great, but took me until now, 33 years old, to really appreciate how diverse he is as a musician. Few artists actually go out and try something new or different. And by John Mayer doing that he has created everything from pop to folk to blues to country tunes. And they are all great because that man knows how to write great songs. You can be a guitar virtuoso, which he is, but you have to be able to write great songs. He stays true to himself via the music and in his song writing. And i am a life long fan.
Love the energy of the backup singers. The look of pure joy on their faces says it all
I cant help getting pumped up in my chair when John's soloing and jumping at 5:30
That first solo is sooooooooo clean, elegant, controlled, delicate - just pure class.
