Love this tutorial. Ideas for future motion tutorials: - Adding a shadow to text to make it look 3D. - Rotating text in a 3D space (like in some kinetic type videos) - Anything relating to making a kinetic type video. - Tips for changing scenes/cameras.
First time I saw this was on a smoke* about fifteen years ago; how very expensive it once was. So nice so see this affordable now. Great overview thank you.
THANK YOU VERY MUCH! I AM SO NEW TO FCPX and I bought it with a bundle with Motion. I thought I didn't have motion tracking till I realized that Its on motion. After watching this.... it helps a lot into making new IDEAS AND CREATIONS. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! :)
Suggestion for a 5min-tutorial: "Edit like live!" => usage of Markers, e.g. to set beat-points while Playing. Then, via shortcuts 'jump to Marker' and 'Trim' - a real time-saver.-
Can someone tell me the workflow process for translating this into your FCPX video? As in, do you like prep the whole video, and then when you only have text tracking left to do, import the project into motion and do the text tracking? Kinda confused about this as I am coming from Hitfilm where all these things are neatly in the same program.
Aidan O' Keeffe put in Motion just a part of your video that must be tracked in ProRes 422 format, make a tracking effect, then export again in ProRes format and add to your FCPX project.
Yes, it's all keyframes, just select the behavior, open the keyframe editor, set it to animated curve set if needed, and adjust on each frame as needed.
MotionTips So what you are saying all these hundreds of little dots I have to move them one at a time? Can I move a range, just need to move them up a bit as my shot is coming towards me and is getting bigger and putting the effect out of position. Thanks.

wiggyattheweekend Yes, you can. CMD click, SHIFT click, draw a selection,... any way to select things in OS X works.

I have had Motion 5 on my Mac for 2 years and never used it =(
RCTV….You'll LOVE Motion. It took some time to learn all of the ins-and-outs, but once you master it you'll kick yourself for not using it sooner.
I know that is the next step in my editing learning curve and I see now that it is what is missing from my edits too
