- čas přidán 13. 01. 2017
- Practise composition and the techniques of photography anywhere. Even on your local high street in the fog! By repeatedly doing it you'll master photography.
Even if the photos aren't great, it's the experience that's valuable, so when you go somewhere that is amazing you'll know what to do.

Mr. Browne with the brown coat😁 👍 I could spend hours listening to your photography lectures, learning from your videos again and again!
Thank you Ajanta. Please help me make more by sharing these vids around wherever appropriate... MIKE 🙏🙂
I LOVE going out in the fog to take photos. Especially when the street lights are on.
And yes, I have taken off to the nearest graveyard on very foggy days and nights.
You know you're encouraged to try new things and push yourself and stretch your abilities, when you can hear Mike's voice in your head walking you through the thinking process; and the next think you know, you've taken a good handful of shots of the same thing from different perspectives. Thank you Mike for your wonderful instruction.
I have sampled most of your films after flicking through them and I find them very good for especially beginners. Therefore I have sent them all down to the West Indies, to young lady waiting on a camera from me, an old geezer who's been in the business since 69. Very well done Mike, what you are doing. Sorry, but your reward would only be in this case, just the glory I'm afraid. While I get the hugs.😄
Still another winner from Mike, the best teacher on you tube..I think I even developed an English accent even though I was raised in Pittsburgh !
I've been watching your videos for a few years now Mike and always find them entertaining and informative, but this video has really motivated me to get out more and look for pictures even when it seems dull and grey outside. Thank you Mike.
Hey my pleasure Family Day Trippers Uk - MIKE :-)
I wish someday I'll be as comfortable & friendly on camera as you are, especially when it's about filming myself. Really admire your personality and the ease with which you explain everything. Binge-watched many of your videos in last few days!
Mike, Practice may not make you perfect but it can't hurt you, Mike love that you don't criticize a kit lens but actually use it, you are a real inspiration to us who can't afford to shoot top shelf glass.
Thanks Jim. Like I say. Cameras (and top shelf glass) don't take pictures. People take pictures. The kit is secondary 90% of the time... MIKE
Man you honestly have the best photography channel ever. Love your attitude and imagination
Thank you JamesG. Very kind of you. Please keep up the good work sharing them around so i can keep making more... Best wishes... MIKE
This is something I try to do on a daily basis, just go out for an hour or so and take photographs I often photograph the same subject, building or place because it looks different in the rain or at night or because the surroundings have changed. is something I have been inspired to do from watching some of your earlier videos. Today's video gave me fresh inspiration. Thanks Mike!
A 22 minute video of shots in the fog should of been boring and tedious but you have an uncanny knack of making your videos interesting and informative. Great job Mike, I'm loving your tutorials
Thank you so much Russell Ford. Please help me keep them coming by sharing any you like around... MIKE :-)
It’s amazing how you see the world if your going out with a photographers eye!
I DID IT!!! froze my nads off in the process, but I DID IT! my goal was to grab 20 Likes on Flickr. I GOT 81 !!! and rising. All by just walking around looking for compositions and got my first building block fired up and thinking. All the time I am looking for compositions.
Thanks very much Mike!
I have been doing this for ages but, this time I had set a small goal and reached it!! Woke up this morning bursting with pride!!
WHHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Wanker Browne!! I have ascertained 178 Flickr faves and rising!! I thought my shot through, had to kneel sort of funny to bring the camera down to almost street level, lined up my 7 Building Blocks of Photography, and squeezed off one of my finest compositions!!!! whilst losing my opportunity of children shooting at -18C. Throw in an 8th block if you want to include post production.
Thanks for the great courses you have created over time. Anyone who is dedicated, will excel super fast with your courses!
So, let me get this right... you went looking for something Christmassy, instead you end up on a graveyard where you start babbling to yourself . whilst doing squats and keep telling yourself you've gone bonkers. Did you even notice everyone else suddenly started circling widely around you ? ;)
Fantastic work Mike, as usual your passion for the craft shows.
Mmmm I know. It happens a lot so there's something Freudian in my babblings about being a bit mad... MIKE :-)
It's great that you include the video of what you're seeing through your camera as you're composing your shot. You're among the best of all photography channels on CZcams.
Thank you Otis. Please support the vids by sharing them around with more photographers - it helps me make more of them... MIKE :-)
Wonderful the way you find subjects out of the ordinary. Thank you for your knowledge. You are a very good teacher.
Thank you so much, Mike. I love your hands-on approach and being able to be privy to your thinking process. You are the most generous teacher.
A quick reminder from the indomitable enthusiasm of Mike Browne that: 1, There really is no excuse for not getting out there.& 2, I have been neglecting my 18-55 kit lens.
Thank you - I'm thinking about doing a book featuring only images taken on an 18-55 with not filters etc... Other focal lengths have their place and can do things the 18-55 cannot. But I like the look of the 'standard' lens and as i said. I can be lazy... MIKE :-)
Love the passion! Makes me want to get out and shoot!
I really like it the most in your videos when you set up to find this kind of mundane subjects, like the minimalistic pigeons and the bucket. It's edgy and more challenging, like the gloomy industrial landscapes and the overlooked details of daily life. No need to think people believe you're bonkers. More of that, please! :)
Thank you Plasma D'Lite. I was filming a video at 'The lamp post' a few days ago so it's about to make another guest appearance. ... MIKE :-)
Mike, as you Brits say, "Brilliant!" I love the videos you produce, Mike, where we are just "eavesdropping" or "looking over your shoulder!" Informative, natural, and very helpful. I hope, as I've said, to copy your style (remember 'highest kind of flattery' and all that!) and only hope I can come across as "real" as you do! Thank you!
Thank you Bill. Very kind of you to say so... MIKE
You have this real knack for making photography so scrummy that i just want to rush out and take some pictures! you have the gift of making someone like me who his often full of self doubt believe that i can go out there and do it, thank you for that.
That's exactly what I want to hear - go and take photos because practice makes perfect.
Really impressive, Mike. thank You so much.
Love your videos... I don't fall asleep watching yours. Kept up the good work
thank you! glad you like it! please do share too so we can make more!- Melissa pp Mike
Brilliant Mike. I keep making excuses not to get out with the camera because I have taken the same shot over and over again or the weather is too bad but you always manage to give me a gentle kick up the backside to motivate myself. Thanks buddy.
Thanks Anthony. My pleasure... MIKE ;-)
Very inspirational. Thanks Mike. Love your videos !!
I love your channel! You really know how to motivate and inspire us to get out there shooting, no matter what the weather!! Thank you!
Thanks Laura. Please keep sharing it around. It helps keep it going... MIKE :-)
Hi Mike. Photography is not all about amazing sunsets but also about seeing those little quirky things as well like the bucket. As you have demonstrated here there is a picture around every corner you just have to be able to see it. Thanks again for the inspiration.
Loved this composition exercise Mike.
Brilliant video and opening my eyes to taking time to find different variations of an image, moving.... Thank you.
Can imagine a great image with the setting as at 7:00, shallow depth of field, with one or two people past the street light (going or coming) and one or two couple of car headlights coming just appearing from the corner.
Interesting tutorial, thank you for your humility in explaining the basic things that are sometimes overlooked.
Thanks Mike, excellent advise as usual.
Mike you just made me want to go for a walk with my camera, thanks for this great video, you are the best.
Thanks mike for sharing your knowledge and experience as you do...appreciate it..
Thanks Martin Stokes, please help by sharing any videos you find particularly helpful...it helps Mike make more - CHRISTINA :-)
Thanks, Mike. More videos like this, please- the thought process of how to "see" pictures.
Thank jordanthecat... I'll see what i can do... MIKE
Lots of answers to all the questions I asked myself a few days ago. Thx Mike :-)
Hi Mike, Great idea, i look out when its foggy and then stay in and wait for the sun, but now ill be out and about in all weathers, great video
out and about on a dull grey day while most other yt togs are uploading the same boring generic content of their latest fashion/portrait shoots. cheers mike, this is what makes your channel great :)
Thank you altern8ive - MIKE :-)
Love the videos mike.
Great tips. Thanks for sharing.
I always love your videos!

When I watch your videos I feel a terrible desire to take my camera and go out to practice, practice and practice. How easy it seems to find inspiration by watching your videos. Thanks Mike, you're the best.
Thank you, and that's the only way to be really go - MOVE and Practice :) - Melissa PP Mike

If there would be Oscars for photography tutorials you would won the whole lot of them! Your videos are very inspiring and always motivating. Such a luck to have you around here!
thank you for the kind words Paul - Melissa pp Mike
I love shooting with fog. believe it or not. Exposures that are a little bit long with a ton of negative space are fantastic. Can't cut through fog either. creates a wicked blurred background!
learned that by just trying it out. See what happened. turned out I liked it a lot. So I went 'round to the next port down to catch this crane off a barge; shot with fog and a ton of negative space. www.clickasnap.com/i/emexuypuhqpzylxr
Love all your videos, Mike!
love you too!! - Melissa pp Mike
Thanks again MIke. Was contemplating another day stuck in the house polishing my equipment as it were and got an early notification about your vid. The temps here in NH have been in the -20 range recently but today it warmed up(!) to almost freezing. So motivated by you, I went into town and took some pictures. Nothing that would win prizes but it felt so good to be out with the camera again. And besides, the frost bite isn't permanent. Is it?
You're a star man.
Ha ha - there's a Canadian lady who comes on the Iceland workshop with Thor and I (twice now) who says she really comes to warm up a bit. Iceland's only around -3 / 5 degrees.... Hope you don't lose any fingers on my account... MIKE ;-)
Nice video - love your style and ability to frame a shot! - nice work.
Awesome video as usual Mike!
Greetings from Brazil, love your videos!!
Thank you Rafael - MIKE :-)
You are an excellent speaker, I could listen to you all day, Thanks for sharing your great knowledge👍
Thank you John - MIKE :-)
I have to say its scary how much alike we think. Whenever I am walking through one of the parks near my home I will stop and look at something that everyone else is walking by, for example a rotting old tree trunk. The looks I get as people are walking by is amusing to say the least. I guess we Browns or Brownes must be required to be slightly bonkers. By the way, there was another awesome shot opportunity in the bone yard as you were getting ready to move on. Behind you walking toward you was a dark figure on the walking path, shot in back and white that would have been an ominous photo. It reminded me of the iconic shot for the "Exorcist" film of the priest in the street outside of the house.
You would make a great ambassador for the area you live. The shots on THIS high street, the market stalls, the quayside and the restaurant you often use (and the cakes) make me really want to come and visit. I know that my own home town, London. has enormous potential and I go out most weekends all over the city, but Your town looks so picturesque and inviting. One day later this year, 2020, God willing.
You'lll get here when the time's right - just stay positive..! And you're right London has SO MUCH potential - I love our capital
Always a pleasure watching your videos Mike.
Thanks kreygscott - MIKE :-)
You're most welcome Mike.
Hi Mike, this is one of your great "let the creative juices flow" videos. Thanx a lot, I love it.

Thanks Taip Limani, I completely agree - CHRISTINA
Hi Mike, thanks for your advice. I really enjoyed what you did in the video despite it was a foggy day !
Thanks Larry Tam - CHRISTINA
Hi Mike, I keep promising myself that I will one day get out and get some practice at taking some of these fog or mist shots, and this video has be very helpful in encouraging me to give it a go, particularly like the shot in the cemetery. trouble is Mike, i'm getting old and lazy at going on 75, any excuse to stay in the warm, but new year resolution. on my do list, best wishes for 2019 Mick,,
A really good video, you helped light the fire for me to shoot again. I enjoy photography more than ever. So thanks and keep up the good work, your self discipline attitude is inspiring.
Thanks Brad. Happy to help, and as always, please keep sharing any vids you like to help me keep it going... MIKE :-)
The video is outstanding, love it!
Thank you 0student - MIKE :-)
Great Mike
Great! Thank you!
Fun, fun, fun! At about 2:26 I started yelling how about the lonely pigeon on the chimney - get the line and that standoffish one!
kstrohmeier Yess! And the one that's on the same roof but on the far left, just on the edge looks like a good shot too. Some nice lines and triangular shape action going on
Thanks - MIKE :-)
Get your "picture radar buzzing!" Lol...I can't tell how much I can relate to that comment. I recently went out to a local flower garden call Vines Mansion in Loganville GA, and getting my picture radar buzzing was my ultimate goal. But like in your situation Mike the sky was overcast and I too found myself taking pictures with low shutter speeds. In situations of low-light what is the most import part of the triangle to pay attention to, to get that dramatic picture? ISO, F/stop or Speed? Love the boneyard shot, I was saying to myself; "com'on already go vertical would ya!" Thanks again Mike for an awesome video. Love your perspective on things.
Great video. I thought I saw a Hants & Dorset green double decker in the video; still the same colour green.
great vid!! thanks
I really inhale your tips - Thanks a lot and greetings from Germany !
Thanks Axel Bechert, greetings from England - CHRISTINA :-)
Great video. Very inspiring. Thank u :)
Interesting tutorial,
haha .. The ways you take photo are really inspired me as a beginner :)
There are always many beautiful photos if we can think of one that we really want to produce . Thanks sir .
Always wondered what pigeon tasts like :)
Thanks Mike.
Great vid again. Plenty of pictures to be taken if you take your time.
Loving the videos Mike. They are so interesting and useful for a beginner. Have you ever thought about doing an astrophotography playlist? Would love to see different star shots from cambodia and iceland.
Thank you Charsiu. I’m delighted they are helping. Please help me make more videos by sharing them with other photographers on forums, Facebook, ClickASnap, Flickr etc. I don't do much astro work and am not an expert. I dare say i'll explore it more in the future and when i have I'll make some vids... MIKE
I agree that even if one isn't inspired by the setting, they can always practice composition by photographing whatever is most interesting. Usually there will be a pleasant surprise or two.
Thanks - MIKE :-)
Nice video Mike. Finding interesting images to take is without a doubt my biggest downfall. It's easy when everything is perfect like you say. Very inspirational.
Thanks. keep practicing looking for photos, you'll get it if you don't give up... MIKE :-)

Fog's great. :-) missed you videos!
Hello Mike :) Nice to see another tutorial from you.
I've noticed you struggling with the focus while filming and since I got a X-T1 myself I went fiddling with it. I found that you actually can focus during video by switching the focus mode to "Continuous" mode (if you don't wanna do it in Manual mode) and the camera will do a pretty good job especially if you're in Single Point autofocus.
Thanks for the tip MC - I'll try it next time... MIKE :-)
Love your videos and like to know the lens your using in them. I'm glad you mentioned your lens in this video.
hi Mike use his 18-55 mm lens on a fuji xt1 body
(Alan) Well done Mike, this is the type of video I really look forward to.
Thank you Alan - MIKE
Hi Mike, inspirational...thanks.
you're welcome Paul - Melissa pp Mike :)
Really good bread and butter advise again Mike. I too like minimalistic images and have started to see more and more of this as I look around and the best thing about this genre of photography is that you don't have to to get up at silly o'clock to partake!
Keep up the good work and sorry for and spelling mistakes ? :-(
Thanks honda750k6 I'm good with a spelling mistake myself... By the way, have you got a 750K? It was one of the 4s wasn't it? - MIKE
Great teacher
Thank you! 😃
"Camera on. That's always a good start" - Hehe.. Love your videos! You give us a lot of advice! :-)
Thanks BIKEHUN. I’m delighted they are helping. Please help me make more videos by sharing them with other photographers on forums, Facebook, ClickASnap, Flickr etc. MIKE :-)
Great video .... would love to see the same type of lesson using a couple of prime lenses. What to take, how to adjust, etc. You could even do it on a nice day!
We'll keep this idea in mind for future videos :) Thanks John Shiever - CHRISTINA
I had an opportunity to take photos in the fog this morning! Thanks for the helpful ideas.
Glad it sparks on you! Melissa PP Mike :)
Thanks Carol Breaux, hope you enjoyed your foggy shoot this morning - CHRISTINA :-)

Great video Mike, foggy days do provide quite nice diffused light to make colors pop. The downside to filming by yourself is missing opportunities, like the gentleman walking by you in the blood red coat at 13:26. Would have been a great subject matter against the foggy environment. Keep the awesome videos coming!!
Thank you Gary - MIKE
i took a lovely photo of a tap with the water ruing came out so cool
Another informative and enjoyable video, Mike.
I too, like to just wander like that but don't do it often enough (even though I'm retired!).
BUT, tomorrow morning I'm going out at sparrow fart to find the Antipodean equivalent of the blue bucket.
Cheers from Rob in Perth.
PS - I love the way you shoot some video to show us how you're thinking while composing the shot. That makes your lessons unique on the Net.
thank you Rob, glad this sparks a thing on you! - :) - Melissa pp Mike
Thanks Rob Coates, I hope your trip to sparrow fart went well? Pleased your enjoying Mike's video's, don't forget to check out our website for more helpful videos... - CHRISTINA :-)
www.photographycourses.biz/videos
Great videos!!! I have presbyopia as well.... It sucks having to use glasses to look at the camera....
Thank you Gary 🤓
You were talking about moving your focus point when you were shooting the blue bucket. Isn't it easier to focus and recompose the shot? I use the center focus 95% of the time. Just seems like an extra step to get the same result. Well Done Browne!
Thanks westcoast I focus and re-compose most of the time but if the distance is short and there's time to do it I move the focus point so there's less chance of me moving a few cms before pressing the shutter and knocking the important bit out of focus... MIKE
