I've always loved the fact that when you get really really really good at martial arts, you can kick and punch so fast and hard that you leave behind small clouds of baby-powder. So cool.
It’s not baby powder, there skin flakes 😂
A lot of these guys had eczema.
and if you get even better than that you gain the ability to fly
It's not powder, it's smoke generated from the heat of the extreme speed of their hits.
@@redmanlaw0002 Ohhh that's even more awesome!!
For a movie filmed in ‘94 the music and sound effects are pure 70’s
That makes it 5X better!! Think Kill Bill.
By design.
that explains all the dust! 😛
The chinese havent stolen modern music technology yet at that point
they really did capture it beautifully.
I've watched many martial arts movies over the years. This one is definitely one of the best ever.
is the rest even worse? damn, thanks i can skip martial arts movies then
@@strateeg32 well, I never said it is an Oscar nomination for best movie. I'm talking to lovers of the genre.
it is one of the martial arts movies
Yeah Agree With You Fully .....

I taught him everything he knows.... but not everything I know.
Nice job, Steven.
That's what she said hehehe
Thank you - I forgot how much I love this genre
I loved the homage to Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do style at the final part of the fight. Great Jet Li, as usual.
Actually Bruce borrowed that from Muhammed Ali. Bruce admitted that Ali was his hero, and always wanted to punch and ‘dance’ like him.
This movie is a remake of Bruce Lee's one, right?
This is an amazing film, I watched it on VHS when I was a kid. So many times. Such skill.
It came in VHS?
"Cut!"
"Powder!"
"Places...and..... action!"
"Cut!"
"More powder!"
"...aaaaand action!"
Every Jet Li fight is his best fight!
I like the Jet Li vs Jet Li in the one. double best fight
No. Its all fake
Now I know where the Matrix got some of it's choreography. Awesome!
Perfect example of what Bruce Lee advocated against. Too busy, too many moves by red. To what end? You’d be worn out before you landed a punch.
Yuen Woo Ping was consulted for the Matrix. So yes, Hollywood absolutely inspired by HK flicks.
Watch 'Iron Monkey' for more pre-matrix goodness.
@@KungFuMojo More than just consulted, he was the martial arts choreographer for the Matrix trilogy. There's some great behind-the-scenes footage of him training the cast and talking about it.
this is the comment i was looking for
I am Japanese, and it may sound strange, but I like this film very much.
When the antagonist is great, the main character and the film itself look more brilliant.
My favourite actors are Mr元華 .
Greetings from the US!
I think you have an open mind, and that is good. The Japanese in this are actually portrayed well. While it was correct to portray them as occupiers, the film does make it clear that several of the protagonists are Japanese - his girlfriend and her uncle help Chen through the whole movie.
Be well.
Well, it's a Chinese movie, so you know what to expect.
You are too polite ... 🤔
@@XB10001 Too polite? Lmao...
I don't see the point of mentioning that you are Japanese. You could be an eskimo and will still be the same, just your opinion and your liking.
@@jdsheleg8332 you dont seem to know that there are quite a bit of cultural problems between japan and china and thats why it is worth mentioning. there are chinese descendand groups in japan which have a separate, degradory name and are generally shunned. At the same time when you read chinese Lightnovels and they have japanese factions/characters inside they always get portraid as scum, rapists, liars, cowards and backstabbers (basically how they are depicted in this movie). And chinese stuff is heavily controlled by chinese gvnmt. I remember a chinese LN with over 2400chapters that is not allowed to be continued bc the setting COULD be interpreted as not hailing chinese mentality/culture over every other culture. (and I want to emphasize COULD)
A superb example of martial arts choreography!
There's A LOT of hits that visibly don't connect though. The choreography is cool but the result comes off a bit poor
Choreography is fine - but it's clearly sped up.
Erm, a lot of flailing too...
@@WhoThisMonkey Isn't that a tribute to each of the combatant's ability to 'slip' or dodge punches? My experience with Asian martial arts is limited, but I was a more than a competent boxer when I was in the US Army. Slipping punches is a non-trivial skill & takes more than a few hours of practice to master.
As I've learned more about the history between Japan and China I've come to appreciate this movie for more than just the martial arts. It's a great lesson in that not everyone from the enemy country is the enemy.
Indeed, but a very difficult lesson for those who take sides to learn.
There is no such thing as an enemy country. Conflicts are created by the Imperialist powers to "divide and conquer". If you've learned the "real history" and not the "winners version of history", you will know humans in spite of differences can get along. That is, until European and Anglo American Colonialism and Imperialism crashed the Human Party. Liberalism and Fascism are opposite arms of the same body which serves Imperialism.
Remember seing this movie for the first time in the late 90s. Had no clue what it was and never seen a movie like it, or Jet Li. And I was blown away by the koreography, and completely invested in the whole movie from start to stop.
I always thouight Jet's best fight was in Fearless, against the Fu Jow Pai fighter. This one actually was a beautifully choreographed fight - the Hung Har stylist went through Tiger, Crane, and Dragon forms before switching to Mantis fist. It was trying to portray him as an equal, in that he'd studied more than one style. Well done.
First time I’ve seen this and now I understand the fight scene in the Matrix a lot better.
Penata kelahi di film ini dan the matrix adalah oang yang sama
The ass kicking was too one sided. But at least they (Gordon Chan/YWP) made it a point to show that Jet's new footwork also has it's weaknesses.
it was kind of the point. Chen was the star student of the master and in a sense, great martial artists are kind of like super heroes in this genre
the "new footwork" was a homage to Bruce Lee and does have a weakness. it was cool they showed a full change up of styles as he clearly fought him like a boxer would for that short time during the fight.
he didn't want to use his kung-fu as a homage to his master so he banned it and used this more western "boxing style" which was most likely a homage to bruce lee at the same time. But since it is a chinese movie they still had to show that this western style had some flaws and it was more bc of the user and not the style that jet li won.
This movie is a remake of a Bruce Lee Movie called Fist of Dragon. This new Jet Li's fighiting style is a reference to Jet Kune Do, the Martial Art created by Bruce Lee
"How classic do you want your sound effects to be?"
"yes."
jet li's boxing is so aesthetically pleasing
This scene is why Fist of legend is my favorite kung-fu movie. I also prefer Jet Li to Bruce Lee version. Jet Li is extraordinary when he starts floating over the ground while boxing. Absolute legend. Godlike.
Vous n'allez jamais dépassé Bruce Lee
Oh, the memories. It makes me want to get into a kung fu fight, almost. :) Thank you for the video!
Glad you enjoyed it!
I'm guessing these guys are both employed at the local flour mill, that stuff really gets in your clothes.😂
The only reason this is not the BEST kung fu flick of all time is because it is such an homage to the greatest films of the past. (including the one it is remaking, which is also one of the best ever made). I think it is very deliberately a love letter to golden age kung fu movies, particularly the outrageous fight with his father in law, where they basically demonstrate at least a dozen different fighting styles.
And although it may not be the best, it will always be my favourtie.
Jet Lee would always remain as my legend of a martial artist
Jet Li really made movie fights fun to watch 😂
电影的配乐真是细致入微
진짜 중국무술액션은
이연걸과 견자단이 최고다.
정무문은 두 배우가 각각 출연한 작품들 다 좋고
황비홍하면 이연걸
엽문하면 견자단
👍
Cool he's channeling some Jeet Kune Do and even just a bit of Capoeira at one point.
Looks like some straight up classic pugilism in there too
Even when Jet Li is the "good guy" he looks like the "bad guy". Bro has some serious villain vibes (not a bad thing).
I've watched a lot of Jet Li movies. He is aways the good guy.

@@endynegaming9413 I can't remember The One now..... been so long, wasn't he bad guy there? Or some version...
@@elmhurstenglish5938 he was both in that one
I've seen 'Fists of Fury' many times, I never knew about this version. I'll have to look for it, always interested in finding new or old classic martial arts movies. It looks like Jet Li mixed in a short boxing segment (1:50 - 2:15) to fool his opposition.
This one is a masterpiece. Ive yet watch anything better.
And the reason he switched to free style mid fight is because they trained together and he didnt want to disrespect. Neither he win or lose will tarnish their school reputation. This is my intentionally inaccurate explaination.
It's Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune do
Jet Li's flat top hair style beats everything!
2:41 Love the continuity errors between some shots, lol. Makes the fight that much more unpredictable!
Yeah the fights probably was way longer and they had to cut it down. It was already sped up a lot.
Although I do not like the Iranian government, after the passing of the Iranian president, I would like to express my condolences to the people and beloved country of Iran, God bless.
🇧🇷Vi este filme na TV várias vezes na extinta Sessão KickBoxe, da TV Band, e também alugando em locadoras graças ao trabalho da China Video. O melhor filme do Jet Li, na minha opinião.

Hell yeah.
One of the best fight scenes ever👍
I need to rewatch this movie!
i have never watched this movie and it looks amazing for being this old
if you like martial art movies, I can say this is a MUST WATCH movie.
02:05 Boxing emerged victorious over Kung Fu.
Boxing is more efficient. I'm not an expert but I think kung fu just has too many stances, I understand there is a reason for that but boxing is still better in my opinion
One small detail I liked is that the opponent tried to find a weakness in Jet-Li's character's footwork @2:34 , shows that they're both capable of adapting in a fight, but Jet-Li's character is better at it
This was so epic 🤙🏾
great fighter ❤
I love the moment he realizes he needs to take this seriously and ditches the defensive forms to "become water." Great nod to Bruce with its own injection of Jet Li's flavor!
What fight... they are not even touching each-other, Jet Li also choreograph these moves!
君寶、天寶
When Li started dancing, it reminded me of Bruce Lee in Return of the Dragon
我每次都會看
The best fight in this movie was btn Jet Li and that tall Japanese soldier (I don't know his name). One of the best Jet Li movies.
Billy Chow, born on August 24, 1958, in Canada, graduated from a Canadian college. He is a world boxing champion, kickboxer, kung fu actor, and the light-middleweight world kickboxing champion.

Personally like the fight scene from "The One"

love how the people watching take a break 1/2 way through...
I saw this move and fell in ❤
Great choreography!
鳥の鳴き声、打拳の響き、音楽
最高!
The use of jeet kune do and the general boxing style of his moves in the second half mixed with more traditional kung fu was pretty bold for a young Jet Li to attempt. It comes off like a naive musician going a little too far in their explorations but I really like it.
Not going to lie, i almost expected a "Round 1, fight" to pop up on the screen
when dudes start flying, it qualifies as wuxia in my book.. nobody can do that kick unless they have a wire at the waist, which he had, because theres behind the scenes footage of it, which, isn't a bad thing, even jackie chan used the wire, only difference is he didn't use it to fly during a fight. He would usually use the wire to make the bad guys fly into a pile of boxes after being kicked.

This is one of my favorite martial arts movies, and this was a great scene, but it wasn't even the best fight in the movie!
I love this movie. Only martial arts movie I ever bought on vhs
Fantastic
I just watched the matrix again last night and I’m seeing a lot of where they got their choreography inspiration
I personally think Jet Li's best fight is his fight against the Twins at the end of Kiss of the Dragon. His fight with Jackie Chan in Forbidden Kingdom was also good, I'm just not a fan of extensive wire work. (And yes, I know some was used in Kiss of the Dragon, but it was minimal compared to other movie fights).
No talcum powder was harmed in the making of this film. SACBR( society against cruelty to bathroom requisites )

How long and where was that outfit hanging ? Did you see the dust come off of it at the first strike !
I saw Jet Li, Morgan Freeman and Bob Hoskins when they were filming a Danny the Dog (also called Unleashed) scene literally across the road from my house. I remember they were making fake rain and I had a wee chuckle...I mean this IS Glasgow. It WILL rain soon...very soon. Still, great to see these legends in real life.
I like how jet li switches to boxing and just dominates.
It's something I noticed as a kid when I watched Bruce Lee movies for the first time. Here I was, expecting a lot of highly choregraphed, dance-like kicks and dodges and fancy arm movements to block or misdirect attacks, like I was used to from old Kung-fu movies. And instead most of the time, Bruce just punched dudes in the face. To be fair, he punched them in the face really REALLY fast.
Great film. They honered Bruce Lee with this adaption :)
dusty punches and kicks. Nice touch eh!
Why were certain parts sped up? Being able to see the fight evolve and track their moves is better than making it look fake-fast.
Because this is a movie and all choreos are for the sake of aesthetics,.not realism. I mean, if someone could punch concrete like that chinese guy. Then that one punch alone is enough to break Jet Li bones,.😅
One of his greatest films! Please watch it!
