Here's a great boat vacation that you should put on YOUR bucket list. The Trent/Severn waterway in Canada is an incredible trip of hundreds of miles. Starting at Picton on Lake Ontario, you travel through numerous rivers and scenic lakes all the way to Georgian Bay PLUS you go through over 20 locks, including the incredible Peterborough Lift Locks. (Check them out on You Tube.) There are numerous places to stop for fuel, supplies plus there are many waterfront restaurants, marinas, overnight lodging, campgrounds, etc. Detailed charts are available from the Provincial government. One bonus is that you can go "off" into side lakes away from the main route. One tip...avoid July and early August. It's the busiest time for boat traffic and the wait times to pas through the locks can be long. Another part of the trip worth looking at on You Tube is Big Chute. I made the trip several years ago in a 40 foot cruiser. You should give yourself three weeks at least to really enjoy it.

If I had the $$$, my choice would be a 45 foot trawler yacht powered by twin diesels. I'd spend my summers cruising the fabulous Trent/Severn waterway system in Ontario, Canada. My brother had a 20 foot boat with ONE 150 hp motor. That thing sucked gas like there was no tomorrow so I'd hate to think how much fuel FOUR engines would burn.

Could he even get it on plane? That's the problem with underpowered boats; five minutes to plane which does what? You guessed it high fuel consumption.

Not sure how old your brothers motor and boat were but today's Outboards are much more fuel efficient then they were years ago plus many of the newer boats now have stepped hills which give better fuel economy. Also the use of multiple Outboards help the engines work more efficiently.
