- Opening weekend of archery deer and bear in D7 in California. Hunted a wonderful area, lots of water, food and shelter. Saw only one doe and 3-4 bears.
Had lots of fun either way, my deer camp was full as I didn't have to camp all by myself 😊
Got to try out an e-bike - I think I'm hooked!
Will be back this weekend, less driving and more hiking.
This is a hidden gem, only a few hunters were here for this huge area!

if so ypu was ready close to a mineshaft right there dont walk across that meadow that shaft goes right under it an looks soft an has water in the shaft from the meadow just leting u know 😀
I did not know that! I will keep that in mind although I never really walk across meadows, only on the sides

This will be my first time hunting Tennessee in a long time. Good luck this season.
Over here in the part of Tennessee where I am the limit is 3 doe and 2 bucks.
In the area where my relatives live they have a 3 doe a day limit!!
So much different than California season limits.
Hi! Yes I saw that you moved to Tennessee. I'm very happy for you and I've heard a little about the hunting laws there, much better than here. A friend of mine hunted there once, I don't know which area but I think he said he could hunt 7 days, he could take 1 doe every day until he takes a buck.
So if he takes a buck the first day, he's done, but he can take 2-3 does in 2-3 days and then a buck.
I wish we had that. Although this year I also have an either sex archery tag, it's down in D11, by LA, it's called A31, and I can hunt until the end of the year
Bass lake is just to low. You need to go higher in elevation. Here's a pointer go up to Iron lake or fresno dome.
This area is 5-6000 ft. It's not that low. It's the same as Shaver Lake.
Bass Lake is 3000 ft but I wasn't hunting right around the lake.
But this weekend I am going somewhere else, and it's higher (7-8000 ft)
You be lucky if you find locals that low around beshore. But 7000-8000 will be okay.
Dont want to rain on your parade but chances of seeing bucks just roaming in these D7 meadows are almost to none. Alittle suggestion, read and understand their traveling routes, feeding areas mixing in hiding/cover area along with water source. That is where I would plan my attack. And you wont be seeing any bucks hanging around with does this early on of the seasons. Scouting way in advance will help, just dont show up expecting to see them cause you wont.

There's lots of water here, creeks and streams running everywhere. I understand everything you're saying, I don't expect them to just walk in front of me. I'll be hiking this whole weekend

I tried that lol. But it's very far. The only time I could go would be last 10 days in December or first 10 days in January. And last year the closed the January hunting for the zones I went to. I don't know if they opened it back up
There are some desert units I hunt in December that have big mule deer bucks.
