Been using one for 3 years now. Just replaced the power cord yesterday. The 35 thrust pound delivered by the 12v power is great. it's powerful. However, I found that much force makes the vacuum less efficient in terms of debris collected. I always use the standard bag. So having it full power tends to clog the bag before it's actually full. Shaking it might get you a few more leaves, but having to pull that thing out of the water to have the bag go flat with only a hand full of leaves is exhausting. What I did was install a speed controller on mine, so I could bring it down to any voltage. I usually run mine around 5 volts.
That way it still has plenty of suction and wont clog the bag. and any shaking you have to do actually works to free up space. By the time I have to pull it out of the water its stuffed like a turkey. My speed controller also has a forward and reverse switch on it, so I don't have to raise it out of the water when I get a stopped impellor. Just reverse, and forward and im on my way again. It's all about time in our type of business my friend.

Wow, very good information, thanks for sharing for me and others to learn from. I will have to look into a speed control, great idea!

@@truelightpoolsllc4441 My pleasure. Been in the game 25 years. I even have a wireless riptide I use. I have the cart and I love the cart. But not everyone has a 24 inch walkway to their backyard.

How’d you go about installing a speed controller? I just got my Riptide a couple weeks ago, after years of using the Powervac, this thing is HEAVY (that thrust!) in the water and out.

@@joshnc101 I ordered a cheap dc speed controller for now off of amazon. I want to get a wireless version at some point so I dont need to run to the cart to reverse it.

I have not seen a riptide for $1100. At the website there are two models - the lower price one starts at 1800.

Yep, they have gone up progressively since I bought my first one. Hasn't everything though? Ha ha.

Also I made a cart out of a dolly. Just like you did with the Powervac.

I perfer the standard. The 75 micron bag gets clogged easily
