Which State out WEST is the WORST?

  • Is the west coast crappy or nice? A lot of the western part of the US looks like a big desert. It’s still a wide open frontier out here, and it just might stay like this for a long time, cause look at the place.
But the western portion of our country isn’t just hot deserts with scorpions and tumbleweeds. Lots of it is filled to the brim with too many people - many are large families who have lived here for generations. Lots are immigrants. Some are people who just moved here from other states, looking for a better life.
But how do you know where to go? Like, which state out this way is better than the other? Or put it even more clickbaity, which western states are the WORST? That’s what we’re here to determine today. We’re going to measure things like data, and compare stereotypes so YOU, the ever shrewd viewer, are more informed. Or, if you live out west, this is something you can brag about or use to email me and call me names.
So, get out your tank tops and don’t ask if you can use my lighter, we’re going to rank the western states and tell you which one is the worst.
We'll talk about California, Arizona, Nevada, Washington, Oregon, Montana, New Mexico, Idaho, Utah, Colorado and Wyoming.

The fact of the matter is that these metrics are particularly arbitrary. This is especially the case when they are based on localized conditions of large population centers to represent an entire state’s condition. A three square mile of civil unrest in Seattle has no baring on what living in the rest of the state is like. It is clear that there is a personal bias in priorities of metrics and the way those metrics are used.

Colorado: you nailed in on the cost of living. Rents and housing prices have raised dramatically in the past decade. I've owned my house for more than 20 years, but if I had to buy it today, I definitely could not afford it. And as far as traffic goes, the major city where I live may not be as densely populated as other places nor have as large of population as places like LA, NYC, etc., but the highway infrastructure is a complete embarrassment. Our highway system today is inadequate for how the population and driving patterns were 20 years ago. If the highway system was improved (even adding a lane or improving segments that were poorly designed) it would make a huge difference in happiness.

Truth. Most people live in the Front Range, which is way too expensive for being an overgrown suburb with almost zero culture. Like you said, the only way living in Colorado is worth it is if you can live in the mountains, which I don't. Hopefully moving out in February.
All that said, Colorado is the only state I would live in the West other than California.

I was going to buy a house in Montecito(santa barbara) until I found out that there would be a good chance that my house would either be covered in mud, from a massive mud slide, or burnt to a crisp from a brush fire episode...lol....That is when I said, "Virginia, you look better and better by the day"...lol...Of course california is the worst....lol...I mean, d*mn when you have high regulations, highest taxes in the nation, allowing people to steal up to $900 in grand store theft, without the court giving them a felony or receiving jail time, on top of all the homelessness, & raising the price of gas tax without public voting, so yes, I would say that it's 'predictable' that California "SHOULD" be the worst; perhaps with the exception of Hawaii...lol...

@@robinscottmarsh846 in the overall scheme of things, it's not worth living in Santa Barbara and I know that Oprah Winfrey partially regrets spending all that money to buy all that land and build that house 'add-on' to her land, when her FIRST intuition was to buy land, right here, in the great state of Virginia and build any size house she wanted for at least 50% LESS of what it cost her to do the same thing in California.

how stressed you are in Seattle/WEST Coast depends souly upon how much money you make, as the more money you make, the exponially its easier to completely AVOID everything stressful - - - so although it may seem like OR/WA should be higher on the list, As far as here in the Emerald city, if you make above 50K and make use of your time, or simply take advantage of any/all free social resources its quite easy to live a pretty relaxed comfortable peaceful life almost just about anywhere in the PNW.
