How To Fix HBX 16889 Ravage Bevel & Spur Gears - Using Non HBX Parts! Haiboxing RC Fix!

  • Has your Haiboxing / HBX 16889 Ravage Racing Truck started to make horrible clicking noises that come from the gearbox? It's probably a broken spur or bevel gear! In this video I show how to diagnose the problem and replace the faulty parts. However, I could not find a local supplier for HBX / Haiboxing parts, so I did some research and found another 1/16 RC car that has exactly the same chassis. But the other manufacturer has far more importers in Europe and especially the UK, so I got parts delivered in only 2 days! Very cheap, too!
    I hope this video is helpful to all you RC fans out there with HBX trucks, it's good to know that we can steal parts from other manufacturers and we can keep our cars running. Where there is a will. there is a way!
    All the best, and take care my friends. Keep on keeping safe. :)

    Great detective work finding the clone. Your HBX reminds me a bit of our Xinlehong 1/16 trucks but only marginally. Anyways, good repair, my mate 🙂

  • @thecontractor365
    @thecontractor365 Před 3 lety +1

    Great work Mark, especially in identifying those English based replacement parts. Top tip. I'm surprised that the gear failed like this - they must be made from a fairly brittle plastic. You would expect them to be a fraction more pliable which would make them almost unbreakable. But herein lies the problem with budget Chinese RC's - based on this they don't seem to be too durable. Did this fail happen after just one run ? Either way it's hard to imagine this kind of thing occuring with established brands like Tamiya, Traxxas et al, although I suppose anything is possible. The next thing you're going to face is the question: will it happen again ? Luckily for you though mate you have a shed full of tried and tested Tamiya thoroughbreds to fall back on. Great informative video and have a great weekend...👍🏻👍🏻.

    • @MarkBryanRC

      Hiya, dude! Thanks so much for watching this non-Tamiya video, your support is truly appreciated. Yeah, I was very surprised by the gear failure, everything else on the car seems to be pretty robust. To be fair, as it was free, I really have bashed the hell out of it with little regard to it's wellbeing! I'm not sure if the metal dogbone and axle upgrade I did caused an issue, with the non-flexible replacements putting more strain on the drivetrain? Anyway, I put the plastic axles back on, so we will see. If it breaks again I'll lok at metal replacements (or throwing the car in the bin!!!!) I agree, in stock form it really should last longer than it has, but at £55 all-in and ready to run, something has to give, I guess. Yeah, at least I got 1 or 2 Tamiyas to fall back on!!! Cheers, mate, wishing you a fantastic weekend, too. :O)

    Hiya matey. With all the excitement of having the vaccine yesterday I didn't get round to watching this till late last night. Anyway, interesting stuff. There does seem to be a lot of re-branding that goes on with these so it's a top tip to see if the part you require is available for the other version. I'm guessing that they also do a metal bevel gear for this? Always seems to be the gear that breaks on a Tamiya TT-02B. Those screws at the front look annoying where you need to poke the screwdriver in at an odd angle. Anyway top work my friend. So anyway did you get jabbed too? I haven't had any side effects yet. Makes me wonder if it's worked! Going to take it a bit easy with the beers while the vaccine does it's thing. Hope you are enjoying your weekend. Is work getting any easier? I've been fixing up the Arrma Typhon I bought from Nick. Needed a bit of work but running great now. Cheers for now mate 😀

    • @MarkBryanRC
      @MarkBryanRC  Před 3 lety +1

      Hiya, Pete! No worries mate! Well, it's lucky that there is a lot of rebranding when something goes wrong! FTX has a much better sales and service here in the UK than HBX. Cheap stuff, too. Yeah, the bevel gear does seem to be a weak spot on many RC's - but then it does have a hard job to do, transferring the drive through 90 degrees.
      My jab is on Monday - going together with Lou to get pricked! Good to hear you have no side effects, fingers crossed. Work is OK, already looking forward to Easter and 2 weeks off - hopefully bag a load of RC footage. No new cars due to the money situation, but I've got a few cars already to film, thankfully! @@rcandy5119 You are very welcome! Ah, I see now that you already have a new motor! I think it should have more power. You could try heating the pinion up, it might free the threadlock that's holding the grub screw. You will need to get it nice and hot. That usually works for me. Other than that, you may just have to drill it out, but go carefully with that!

      Hi Bob - yeah, I agree! I was surprised it broke, but to be fair I really have bashed the hell out of this one!!! It may be down to those metal axles and dogbones I fitted, as they take any of the "give" out that the transmission had with plastic parts. if you get out of sand they last a lot. mine lasted many hours of tarmac and dirt bash. the moment i took it to the beach the rear diff pinion went out and a few bashes later the front one also. a set from aliexpress cost 3 euros...very cheap. you can upgrade for metal parts but i can not find for my pro version only the diff pinions on sell. they sell only the pack of metal diff plus pinion and to get only 2 pinions you have to buy 2 sets which becomes expensive. when the metal parts on my pro version wear, ill put plastic parts with stock shaft version. its extremely cheap and even if i have to change parts 3 times a year, its still a lot cheaper than buying full sets of metal gears.
