Only problem is that location might not be accurate and if the thief goes a few kilometres away they can still unlock the phone, reset it, then go away. But this is a good feature.
It’s a lot more precise than a kilometer. Maybe a few meters.
@slow_riding4225That's what I do because that way if anyone ever takes your phone and hold you hostage you can say oh I forgot the passcode and they will never be able to get in. Whereas if you use Biometrics or your face ID they could either shoot you and kill to use face ID or biometrics or they could keep you alive and still use your face to unlock it or cut off your finger to use biometrics. It's less secure than using a passcode.

If I remember correctly, the thief describing his method literally mentions that he changes the FaceID immediately after learning the passcode. Which as of right now can be done.
Unless Apple is referring to the need for FaceID to change the device passcode, I don’t know what to think of this method.
Maybe they should require the Apple ID password to reset Face ID.

You can no longer Reset FaceID with this feature on for an hour after pressing the button if your phone is away from Home or a familiar location, and also you cannot turn off this feature for an hour as well.
You can actually lock the options in screen time so you won't be able to change the passcode or faceID...
If the FaceID dies on your phone you 're basically screwed because that can't be repaired
It can be repaired. They just want you to take it to apple instead of fixing it yourself so you can pay them more money.

They need to implement some type of security when people restore the phones
they did that a decade ago with iOS 7, it’s called activation lock.
someone can’t just steal your locked iPhone and reset it, as if your phone is reset with Find My on it is completely unusable to the thief without your Apple ID and password.
Google and Samsung also added similar functionality to most Android phones in 2015-16.
I swear there use to be a bypass around this that got patched. Wouldn’t the only way to bypass this is just replace a hardware part then ?
@@H8RSAPPRECIATEyou’d have to replace the whole storage chip or the whole motherboard. It’s more hassle than it’s worth.
Since activation lock, it is so difficult to bypass or remove the activation lock, I know of ways around it and know people that have the service, but I don’t have the technology to do it, and the people that sell their service to do it often charge more than the phone is even worth, so it’s rarely worth it

Stolen Device Protection prevents that by requiring biometrics to edit or delete biometrics.
I can see this posing a problem, though, if you turn it on and later your biometric modules break, but we'll have to see what Apple does to combat that situation, maybe some kind of backup.
I wish I could study the intricacies of this update for myself, I can't explore everything just by watching videos about it.

I ran after him and fought him till I got my stuff back - Ik he robbed me cuz I’m Chinese and considered an easy target but I don’t think he realized that I’m also American
The second time, a person took my stuff while I was eating lunch, and I ran after them again but couldn’t catch up or find them cuz I was lunch rush and was stopped by multiple people so I lost my stuff for good that time

Not necessarily. It seems like Face ID is only required for saved passwords, not just to unlock the phone. Also from what I can tell, if you’re at one of your “safe” locations like home or work it doesn’t really do anything at all. To be honest I haven’t done a ton of looking into it other than a few videos so I could be wrong

One thing tho… most people will use Face ID or sometimes even Touch ID depends on the model. So basically you never really type in your passcode cuz with Face ID it’s flawless and you just swipe up 👌 and with touch you just press down. So basically you don’t really type in your password unless your old school or something 🤷♂️?

my biggest gripe with apple is the sandboxed applications like the video player, cause in the sandbox you can't use system calls so because you can't swipe back to go back from another app you have to swipe up and close the video, if you do it by mistake it will be delayed cause it has to proud to whole video to memory again, or if you're streaming you have to start from scratch... android has custom kernel calls to invoke the back action so you can use it in any app or whatever is on your screen. also it doesn't close the app it just goes to the open apps tab... so you can go back to it pretty much instantly and if streaming it starts from the point you were at

It was would be better if they added swiping combined with haptic presses for passwords. Being able to swipe and subtly press on the screen without ever lifting your finger to enter your password I think would be next level of password protection

Bruh half the Android users out there still use a pattern unlock, that's even less secure than a PIN, Android still forces you to use a Pattern/PIN over biometrics when changing settings anyways.

Setting a screen time passcode and appropriate restrictions takes care of this as well.
This is a serious W I remember back during the iPhone 7 and iPhone 6 era you could enable a passcode before shutting down a phone which was pretty great, but it was removed. I don’t remember when, but this is a major win to prevent theft or to make iPhones less appealing to steel.

Usually because updates are cached as temp files onto your device.
To bypass that, it would be better to update the phone through a Mac or PC.
Eventually apple will fix this problem, but apparently not yet since iOS17 still has this problem.
