Great video! It took me about a year to complete the NCA exams (full time job and available exam dates etc.), happy this is done! Just to mention in Ontario, you can take the bar exams before articling/the LPP program, which is great if you want to finish this part before articles. Also if you have at least 10 months common law practice experience you can apply for an exemption from articles! 😊😊

You can access the sample exams on their website. They never release old exam papers. In fact, even discussion on question paper with anyone is strictly prohibited. When you open a subject’s syllabus, there is a link with each topic. That becomes your course material, if you plan to do it yourself.

NCA just tells you what subject requirements you need to complete. After that, it’s on you if you want to take the exams or go for LLM CL or take credit courses. But it’s always a good idea to check in with NCA to confirm if they’ll accept the LLM or credit course that you’re planning on doing. They’re very responsive on email and extremely helpful.

Thank you for the detailed information regarding this field. There is very less information available for lawyers who are trying to migrate to Canada. I'm a lawyer from India, and there has always been a lot of confusion about the PR and accreditation process. It would be great if you can also mention what is the maximum time limit allowed within which one needs to give all the NCA exams? Is it 5 years?
Also, for PR application, what NOC code do Indian lawyers apply with? since India does not have paralegal / legal admin assistant job type, if I'm a lawyer in India, can we apply for PR as paralegals if our job experience description does not fall under Lawyers & Quebec notaries NOC code? This is the most confusing part for me a lawyer who is trying to migrate to Canada.

As for the PR application, I’m afraid I don’t have an answer for this one because my husband sponsored my PR and I didn’t have to look into NOCs. However, I’ll try and find the answer for you.

    Hi, highly informative
I have a question, Does taking exams from the parent country and qualifying them help in the immigration process as well? and what about articleship? do firms in Canada hire/offer foreign NCA-qualified lawyers for articleship if they have not immigrated to Canada? in short how to secure articleship ?

    • @sukhmanikahlon
      @sukhmanikahlon  Před 11 měsíci

NCA has no connection with the immigration process. For Articleship, you have to be in Canada. Generally, people work as Legal Assistants while taking the NCA exams and sometimes those employers convert your job into Articleship later. Sometimes, that’s not possible. In that case, you have to apply and try your best to secure something. Networking is key.

      Hi Disha!
You need to send all your transcripts for the assessment. So, you can start preparing for the exams in your final year but you’ll have to wait till your degree is done and result it out.
You get your Certificate of Qualification only after completing all the requirements.
      Hope this helps ☺️
Please note that clearing NCA will not help with your immigration process. NCA is for those foreign lawyers who are either from Canada, studying in Canada or immigrating to Canada as a PR.

      Hi! Thanks for subscribing :)
You have to be in Canada for the Articles. Be it on PR or Work Permit (if you’re coming via the Student Visa route). But a word of caution, generally employers prefer to see your work as a Legal Assistant and then convert into an Article position. People here prefer to hire those who have some kind of Canadian work experience. This is why, I’d say coming to Canada as a PR gives you the strongest possible footing. Hope this helped!

It’s a complicated situation. If you want to work as a lawyer, you have to Article and give the Bar exam (depending on the province) and then one is able to work as a lawyer. Sure there is a TR to Work permit possibility but it’s very tough to find an employer who would sponsor your work visa. You should talk to an education/immigration consultant about it.

Hi Aman. NCA has no relation with getting a Canadian Visa. NCA is only for those people who are either Canadians who went to study law abroad or anyone else who did not study law in Canada but is moving to Canada. NCA is only a process that you undertake to fulfil the Canadian requirements to pull up your Law Degree.

Hi Abhiraj. The purpose of these videos is not to find a way to move to Canada. I talk about how to get licensed IF you are working on moving to Canada. Many people go as PRs on express entry, some are sponsored by their spouses, some go on student visa - be it for MBA, LLM or Paralegal Diploma. Some people take internal transfers to their company’s Canadian offices (for eg. EY, PWC). In such scenarios where one has figured out a way to move/is already in Canada and wants to convert their Indian law degree and work as a lawyer in Canada…that’s when NCA comes into play.

Also could you please mention a few postal services which deliver documents quickly in Canada?

      Hi Sankeit,
Thanks! I hope you subscribed :)
      1) ask your college to send the transcripts to the NCA office in Ottawa. You need to pay for your assessment. After the assessment form has been submitted, you will get a registration number from NCA. You give that registration number to your university. They will mention that registration number when they send your transcript to Ottawa. That’s how NCA will know it’s your application and transcript.
      2) 550 CAD plus tax is for every attempt.
      3) WES has no role to play in the NCA process.
      Hope this helps :)
