    Hello, from Almere The Netherlands. A wood hobbyist and pensioner for 7 years now. I started out with a Ferm scrollsaw with the pinned blades.very soon I reached the limitations of the 2.5mm wholes I needed for fretwork. I purchased (it was a lucky purchase viaMarktolaats - which is theDutch branche of Ebay) a hardly used Hegner Multicut1. An old but perfect machine. I enhanched it, the bellows was torn and I replaced with the flex purple one- from Aliexpress- and a constant airpump. Works like a charm! Further I made an extention cord with a foot switch (again-Chinesium) I added a spot-on led leight from Ikea. Now the situation is that when I put my foot down (!) the machine starts, the airpump starts and the light goes on. It makes life and sawing so much easier. I work with a Dräger half face mask and loupe-glasses. Because I workwith fairly thin hardwoods (4mm walnut, 6mm oak etc) my saws of choice are the numbers 3 - fretwork and 5 - exterior work from Niqua. My wood-stocks I become from parkett/Tapis layers/parquetteurs.

      Hi Nico, great to hear from you and thank you for sharing your own set up with everyone. This is really useful information for anyone who might be thinking of buying a scroll saw. It is similar to our own experience of the scroll saws we started with too.
      You're the second person to mention the foot pedal control, so it has got me thinking that we should consider looking at one ourselves. I must have turned our machine on and off tens of thousands of times over the years.
      Thank you again for taking the time to share your own experiences and supporting our CZcams channel. All the best from us all here at The Lovespoon Workshop in West Wales. 👍👍

    Oh, dear... I've just brought out and dusted off my old Hegner, with the intent on selling it at my local woodworker's guild flea mkt this weekend. I'd used mine also for about 20 years, purchased in 1981, but since 2008 I've mostly been a woodturner. Testing the Hegner's motor just now, it still purrs so sweetly I got a flood of nostalgia and wondered... Then, looking to see what price it might bring, I came across your video. (An EXCELLENT one, by the way!) Perhaps tomorrow I'll give it a test run, cutting one of my signature "Names on Wheels" and reconsider keeping it around a while longer. Thanks for the thorough and spot-on accurate review of this classic and categorically superior machine!

    I just picked a 2006 Hegner multicut 1 up on F/B for £60.
    It needed a little bit of work the black plastic con rod was broken but I easily managed to make a new one from aluminium.
    Thank you so much for your video your explanations fill in a lot of the missing information.
    I work with metal and this machine is a game changer for me...Its opened up a whole new dimension to my art pieces.

      Hi, great to hear from you and thank you for the positive feedback on our video. The Hegner scroll saws were a game changer for us too when we first bought them working with wood. Got to say that £60 is a fantastic price for a Hegner scroll saw too.

    I purchased the smallest scrollsaw Hegner produces due to the price point, but it has completely transformed the way I approach wood carving in my shop. It was well worth the cost.

    I very rarely leave comments. However, this is the by far best review about the Hegner, on youtube. And lucky for me, I've just bought a second-hand Multicut 2s today for £350. It's been well looked after and looks as good as new. I can't wait to put this fine machine to good use. Thanks for your brilliant concise review you deserve a medal for getting it right on every level.

      Thank you, the feedback is very much appreciated. Sounds like you have picked up an absolute bargain. It's a great scroll saw and has done us a great job for over the past 20 years. The other brilliant thing with buying a Hegner Multicut 2s, is if you ever need any spare parts they have great after sales. Hegner UK have always managed to sort out any issues we have had and in fairness we haven't had too many.

    I am a retired toolmaker who also enjoys working with wood. I bought at an auction a number of years ago a 30” Excalibur which I was told was the cream of the crop but from an engineering point of view I disagree . I Heard a lot about the Hegner and will keep an eye out for one . Thank you for you interesting review, much appreciated .

    I was having trouble sleeping and rewatched this video it’s a great video it does sound like a Hegner commercial but as I’ve told you my Hegner saws one is a 1982 an the other is a 1983 over the years I may have spent $100 in up keep my PolyMax 3 belt an bellows has been replaced an the Multimax 14 I just replaced the flywheel on the motor the screw broke that drives the connecting link for 40 years that’s not bad I did try one the new type scroll saws variable speed that everybody is talking about in a few months it was in need of quite a bit of repairs there was so much talk I just had to try the first day I knew it wasn’t for me but gave it a chance
    Just thought I’d give my thoughts about the new type compared to a real scroll saw
    Great video enjoyed rewatching

      Hi Jerry, great to hear from you, hope all is well. It can indeed come across as a Hegner advert but we have no association with them other than using their scroll saws. So it goes to show that they are excellent machines to work with. For ourselves it comes down to the fact that they just do the job. No problem or fuss. On the rare occasion that something does break it is possible to repair and you are off and cutting again.

    There are a number of different scroll saws here in the U.S. I have a mid price Dewalt 788 I believe it is a Type ll because the upper arm will click into place when raised. I've only had it for three years. Though it can be set at different speeds, I found the sweet spot for me and kept it there. I cut 1/8 to 1 1/2 inch thicknesses including Baltic Birch Plywood. So far so good. I taped the power switch on at all times and hooked up a dead man foot switch. I just take my foot off the pedal to stop it. I also added a magnifying LED light. That made a huge difference for me. All my final patterns I draw or trace on the wood, I use red ink. A red line looks better to me up against a black blade. I find it helps one to be more accurate. Especially when I started out. I like the red against the black so much that that is the way I'll always do it. Someday I would like to upgrade to a Seyco scroll saw, they are twice the cost of a Dewalt 788. The magnifying LED light I attached is a Seyco. High quality. I do like the simple design of your Hegner. I wouldn't mind owning one like that.The table on the Seyco saws don't tilt, the head does, so your pieces are always sitting flat when cutting on an angle. My Dewalt 788 table tilts and so I made a support with magnets to stick to the table so my work can't slide downhill. I don't have to fight gravity and can concentrate on being accurate. It helps when cutting the slots for whirligig hubs. Enjoyed as always, take care!

      Hi Michael,
      Great to hear from you as always. This is a great insight for others so many thanks for sharing your own methods. The foot control and red line seems to be a popular choice as is the magnifying glass. All great methods for anyone to know.

    After watching you videos I feel much more confident.
    I've just found out my Hegner was built in 1965 which makes, it over 50 years old. I've spoke to Hegner in Shrewsbury asking and hoping to fit blower to replace the one that is on mine. Can you anybody help point me how to install a pipe blower or make like the one in you video. My blower is built into the overhead chassy section that goes up n down but it's not very good at blowing dust away.

    • @DailovespoonsThomas
      @DailovespoonsThomas  Před 2 lety

      Hi again, hope all is well. Delighted the videos are proving useful. The design on our machine has the pipe going into a small recess with the clear bellows type part over the top. We then position it to blow the dust away from the line of sight. An alternative solution is to have a dust extraction unit or vacuum cleaner positioned to suck the dust away as you cut. Makes less dust to clean up too.
      Thanks again, hope you received my email reply too. All the very best from us all. 👍👍

    It has been a while since since I have been on here I’m having problems with blade slipping in upper clamp I have changed clamps even got a new clamp just wondering if you have ever seen this problem or any idea what might cause it I have a 36 year PolyMax 3
    As always great video an I always enjoy watching

      Hi Jerry, great to hear from you as always, hope all is well with you. This is indeed an issue that we have also encountered. Pegas blade in particular seem to slip in the blade holder we use. It is something we have discussed in a few videos and one solution is to sand across the blade, rough it up a bit to get it to grip in the blade holders. We found that this was necessary with all the Pegas blades to be able to use them.

    Hi, I’ve got a multi cut 2s and the motor has stopped running. Can you tell me the symptoms that led you to believe the capacitor was at fault, was it because the motor stopped working?

    • @DailovespoonsThomas
      @DailovespoonsThomas  Před 2 lety

      Hi Raymond, the motor did indeed stop working and when we checked the capacitor it didn't look too clever.
      We changed it for a new one and bingo it started working again. If you are based in the UK. Hegner UK are a fantastic contact. They will help you get it going again.
