- In this video I SRT scout climb into a set while setting preset paracord loops to come back and hunt in the future. I use a base tie in on this demonstration. All the gear in this video is sold in our SRT kit here @ www.newyorksaddlehunter.com/
Just a hint for setting preset paracord loops for SRT DRT. When you use your throw ball over a branch or crotch that you are designating to tie your climbing line to it plus a paracord drawn up through the crotch both your climbing rope and your paracord at the same time untie from your throw line bring your paracord loop together from a thousand yard spool from paracord world that'll be your preset loop at the same time you set your climbing rope for that night's hunt I've done that consecutively this season cut my time down in half instead of doing post-season preseason preset loop do it while you pick a tree to hunt, way faster 😁👍
Great video! Looking forward to using super static with the tight eye. Thanks for shipping quickly ☺️
That’s what we do. Good luck 🦌. Climb safe !!!
Been thinking of ideas for false crotch setups for return trips. Thoughts on wrapping paracord with a loop around the tree at hunting height then dropping your paracord feed line down thru it to re tether to at a later point. Possibly beats leaving a tethered false crotch and expense of it.
Make up 5/16 cable choker as a false crotch with ri ngs on ends . Plenty of strengthif made properly if its galvanized it will be impervios to weather, sunlight and critters .
I use the JRB hitch climb method to hunt but what led me there and where it all started for me was you guys’ videos 🤘🤘 i still watch everything yall put out 🫡
Appreciate it Buddy !!!
I scouted a good spot, but it will require much brush removal to make it work, currently impossible to use a throw line, even if the use of a wrist rocket! I then plan to make a mock scrape/mineral bed/licking branch combo, to see what comes through on my trail cam, where the trails converge. This property around 25 minutes driving distance away, so getting there, is limited to available time.
Can you post a link to these "smaller" soft shackles you're referring to? I need a soft shackle to fit in the small hole of my hand ascender.
Here you go Dave

CT Quick Roll Hand Ascender - LEFT HAND or Right Hand. I am right handed so a left hand Ascender is what I need? Thanks
It will work either way but As a right handed person when I SRT climb I use the left hand ascender
Hey joe, was looking for more explanation on that base tie any info would help
Yeah sorry I meant to make a video on that and never did. We will make one this weekend keep an eye out
Joe or Scott, can you show a video or discuss if a SRT climber can canopy hitch around the trunk of the tree? Is it safe? I have seen a video where a saddle Hunter threw his throw ball over a small sucker limb wrapped the throw line around the backside of the tree. He then pulled his climbing rope over the sucker limb around the back of the tree, fed the tag in through the quick link, pulled tight as a canopy hitch, and then SRT climbed. I am curious as to you or Scott’s thoughts and if you could do a video?
At some point we can film that. Yes with SRT all you need is to get the line over even a sucker limb and if you can get both ends of the line on either side of the main trunk you can pull in a midline alpine betterfly and it will girth hitch the main trunk of the tree , but yes we can make a video on this
@@NYSaddleHunter awesome. Thanks for the quick answer. I like the midline alpine because you don’t have to worry about attaching a rope retrieval line. Looking forward to the video.
Joe, do you have a video showing how you do that base tie?
Chad I made this video but theres a few diffrent ways to do it. I could probably make a video showing a few options that I know .

@@NYSaddleHunter thanks Joe
Show throwing the ball up
You don't even need that hand ascender, a little webbing and two non-locking carabiners.
True but the hand ascender with a micro pully( CT quick roll) is about as nicec and comfortable as it can be
Joe, does it matter whether you use a left hand ct ascender with quick roll or a Rt hand model. I noticed yours is the left hand version. I just ordered the Rt hand model. I may have to send it back and get the left hand like yours so I can pull the rope with my Rt hand & foot strap on Rt foot. I got my gri gri + today.
Hey Joe, would like to see how you transition from line to tether. Also I would like to be on tether and as a back up still be on my line.
I'll make another video of that we get that question often but I run two bridges one long for my tether and one short for my climbing line. I simply install my tether and clip into my long bridge then take pressure off my climbing line. You can leave both tied in or unclip tge climbing line but its nice to have that redundancy.
@@NYSaddleHunter Thanks Joe, I was also going to say that I was going to put a knot before my gri gri.and use that as another safety. Again thank you!!!
@@recallthehunt4322
Yep As I understand it a safety knot under a grigri is ok but I think its not recomended for the madrock for some reason if Im correct.
@@NYSaddleHunter Thank You

Yeah Chandler Im sorry to hear about the Flatbranch saddle. We regret ever recomending them. Great product but the company went under for unknown reasons and apparently they kept alot of peoples $ and never sent them a saddle. They turned out to be nothing more than crooks apparently. Such a huge dissapointment.
As for the JX3 I personally Ive not sat in one but I always here great things about its comfort and I often think about trying one but I believe its around 11lbs if Im correct and I was lucky enough to be one of the guys that did recieve a flatbranch and its under 3 lbs so Im using that right now.
For a bigger guy you might want somthing like the JX3 because with bigger guys more pinch on traditional style saddles and Id think the JX3 is probably the most comfortable option though its the least minimalist at 11lbs. If you choose a traditional style saddle I think for you Id recomendvthe Cruzr XC . I met a guy in your size range that had one and he loves it so Id say thats a good choice. I also saw a Buzzerd Roost and he makes custom saddles so he can accomidate bigger guys tailored to you. He makes nice comfortable saddles too.
Hope that helps, best of luck with whatever you decide!
I got busted yesterday climbing my old loud steps. I should’ve broke out my srt
Ive gotten to tge point that im no longer comfortable climing steps Without being on a rope its so much easier up and down and I just feel safer
Very silent!
