On "My Car Story" we're in the West Suburbs of Chicago IL on 6-19-23.
We're looking at a 1956 Buick Special Convertible Model 46C in Sea Foam Green & Dover White Paint. The car comes with the factory numbers matching 322 CI V8 engine and an automatic transmission.
The car's Owner is “Buick” Bob Starzyk. Bob’s had this car since 2003. He shares his wife after a car show shared they need a 1950’s Convertible. Bob searched and found this one in FL and it certainly looks like a car you’d take to on a nice ride to the beach.

Nice :-) You're welcome Gary.
Boomers should be so thankful that they were around (even tho as youngsters), when these spectacular and each one different and more colorful than the next, roamed the newly minted highways and byways of the USA...Such a different time, and for my money a better and far happier time:)...thanks for the memories Lou!
Happy to share the memories with you Daniel :-)
Bob's Beautiful Buick! Thanks Lou
The 3 B's :-) You're welcome CJ Design.

That is one beautiful Buick Special Model 46C. I love that mint green and white exterior along with the red interior. Cars looked so cool back in that era. The 322 CI V8 engine sounds healthy, and its instrument cluster and dashboard look stunning! That is one beautiful convertible Lou!
Hi Michael, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Lou
Gorgeous. Love the pastel colors of the ‘50s
:-)
Hi Lou, that is a great looking Buick, it is nice to see that there are a great lot of 1950s 60s and70s cars that are looked after in the USA, great show.👍👍.
Hi Philip, Happy to read "that is a great looking Buick" :-) Lou
It's only fitting a car this gorgeous has the word "special" in its name. This Buick looks fantastic from every angle and it may make some of the bigger cars in Mr. Starzyk's collection a little jealous. Thanks, Lou!
Hi TheGunfighter45acp, Happy to read you think this car is "gorgeous" :-) My pleasure sharing this car with you, Lou
Beautiful condition Buick. A real gem. And thanks again Lou for another great video.
Hi Bruce H., Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this "real gem" :-) You're welcome, Lou
What a beautiful car you have for us today! Sadly when I was a kid, I remember seeing two-door coupe versions of these turned into race cars at local tracks and I believe even in demolition derbies. It makes my heart cry thinking about former beauties being reduced to "gladiator-like" carnage on the race track. I have always loved those Buicks from that era better than Chevrolets or Pontiacs of that era. Neither were as over the top as the Buick. The 50's were great because you could actually get colors on cars and not everything was dirt brown metallic, silver, primer grey, white or black like we see on bread boxes on wheels. While I like red interiors, my artistic eye finds the clash of the greenish interior as an attack with the red. That red interior would look awesome with a black replacing the green paint while keeping the white secondary color. Great video and continued amazing work on your videos!
Hi ultraviolet tp, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-) Hmmm, the demo derby took many out :-( Appreciate the kind and encouraging words on the videos, Lou
Hi, Lou! This beautiful Buick was as fine a foundation for a classic car collection as Bob and his wife could have picked, and this one is so "Special" it inspired a children's book! How cool is that! And I think the '56 was the best-looking car Buick had ever built up to that time! The medallion with the model year and series was a unique touch. The '57s also had the year on the medallion, but Buick gave up that practice afterward because after a while most people don't want to advertise how dated their cars are. Another unique touch is the speedometer and battery and gas gauges all with ribbons! You're right about this being an ideal beach car, especially in that Sea Foam Green/Dover White combo.
Yes, sir, this is yet another one that gets all the birds singing (especially the red-winged blackbirds)! Many thanks to you, Bob and Oliver for taking us all along on this very Special ride!
Hi iswc27, Happy to read you enjoy this "beautiful Buick" :-) Glad to share this "gets all the birds singing" car with you, Lou
Great Buick Lou, love the gas pedal start
Hi acts2211, Happy to read you enjoy the "Great Buick" :-) I agree, the gas pedal start was different and a good idea. Lou
Beautiful Buick! 😍😍😍😍😍 Thanks Lou!
Hi motorTranz, Happy to read "Beautiful Buick!" :-) You're welcome, Lou
Great 3 hole Buirk....thanks Lou
Happy to read you enjoy this "Great" car :-) You're welcome Tim.
How spectacular this Buick Special Convertible Model 46C looked in green and white! I loved the jet-style ornament, with additional air intake, on the hood, and its large grille with the Buick logo on the front; Not forgetting that eye-catching chrome spare wheel guard and stylish whitewall tires and spoked wheels. The pedal start thing was interesting. Its interior, in red, looked spectacular in the sunlight (special mention to the chrome instrument panel, along with that large grille that hid side compartments). The final shot was beautiful, on that long, smooth road! Best regards, from afar, Lou!
Hi Jaime, Happy to read "How spectacular this Buick Special Convertible Model 46C looked in green and white!" :-) Always a treat to see what you enjoy. Glad you enjoy the video from the ride, Lou
Lol, what an awesome book. Best trunk or treat ever
Happy to read you enjoy the "awesome book" :-)
Класне авто! Колеса! Запасне колесо і бампер! Запуск двигуна!Чудове авто! Дякую!
Hi Сергій, Happy to share this "Great car" with you :-) Lou
Beautiful!!!!!!!!
Nice :-)
I’m a huge fan of the 1955, but that is one cool 1956.
Hi Dave, Happy to read "that is one cool 1956" :-) Lou
Lou, I have been watching your show for about 8 years now, and this is the first car I have seen that starts with no hands. Those old Buicks, if you got into a crash, they would just wipe off the blood off the dash and sell them to the next customer!
Jed, Interesting way this car starts. Good to know the sales technics for a car like this, Lou
Love the color
:-)
My uncle had a BUICK WITH THE RIBBON SPEEDO, AND WHEN HE HIT THE ACCELERATOR over 70 it turned red and the gas gauge went down almost as fast 💨😊
Hi Budget Audiophile Life-long, Happy to read this brings memories of your Uncles car :-) Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
And this is the small model. The thing I most enjoy about Buick is that the junior model is priced just above Chevrolet and the senior full boat is just below Cadillac. Except for length, all using the same basic design including the grill. A huge range and no wonder it sold so well, sometimes in third place just after Ford and Chevrolet. 😎👌
Hi L4sleeko, Thank you for viewing and sharing, Lou
Great car, our Buick dealership was Wetzel-Turner Chevrolet-Buick in Waukegan IL, Later became Jack Winter about 1970.
Hi Timothy, Happy to read "Great car" :-) Thanks for viewing, Lou
WOW!!! Just awesome! Just awesome! Almost the same color as my '56 Corvette! Where mine was called Cascade Green I think this is Foam Green!? So cool Lou!
Hi Bob, High praise. You're right, same color as yours :-) Lou
Oliver is great !
He enjoyed the ride :-)
Love my Buicks! Not a top of the line Buick in '56, but a gorgeous example of a Special. Such Great detail in your vids...just the walk around in the beginning was fantastic. Gas petal start? Never heard of that before!!! The sound of the motor was fantastic! Not sure this maroon interiror with the outer colors would be to my taste. Love the dash...and what a treat those two matching ashtrays on the dash! Man alive, the things I learn from your videos! Love the drive at the end. Huge car, great ride!
Hi Brian, Happy to read you "Love my Buicks!" :-) Glad to read you're learning things from the Channel too. I'm learning all the time from the Caretakers and I find that to be so much fun, Lou
Nice 🥰
Hi Michael, Happy to read "Nice" :-) Lou
A lot of machine work and body casting!
Thank you for sharing what you notice.
Bob's got a beauty! The two-tone paint highlights one of the best examples of Buick's famous Sweepspear. Was the Continental kit a dealer-installed option or an aftermarket accessory? As always, thanks Lou, for finding another great classic automobile to show on My Car Story 👍
Hi Mike, Happy to read "Bob's got a beauty!" :-) Hmmm, I'd think the Continental kit was a dealer installed option, but I'm not sure. Hoping a Viewer with knowledge can share. My pleasure sharing with you, and you're welcome, Lou
@@loucostabile Lou, you and Buick Bob did shed light on the Continetal kit matter nine years ago, with this very car. czcams.com/video/MCH-tD6g67Y/video.html. It was a dealer-installed option.
✌🏼🤠 sooooo beautiful ❤
Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car :-)
Expendido Lou Saluda al señor que ha conservado está joya
Hi Juan, Happy to share this "jewel" with you :-) Lou
I think thats the first year for a parking gear. As a kid our 55' 88 Olds had no parking gear, drop it in gear and put on the parking brake.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
👍💯😍💯👍
:-)
The Continental Kit spoils it. Even so, it still is far cooler than the over rated tri-five Chevys.
Thanks for viewing and sharing the parts you like, and some not so much.
Rats I’m I’m first? Yes amazing!! ❤
Hi Jeffrey, You're very close to first. Well done! Happy to read "Yes amazing!!" :-) Lou
great looking car though I'd rather a 65 Skylark GS convertible in blue and white/Blue Leather interior similar to the one my late maternal grandfather had at that time my mom remembers it vividly as her and her older brother were kids at the time they lived on Chelsea Street in east Boston
Hi Courtney, Thanks for sharing what your preference is :-) Lou
Looks great. Nice job! But why does that speedo register when it's not moving?
Hi John, Happy to read you enjoy the looks of this car. Hmmm, I'm guessing the speedo is stuck, Lou
What SHOCKS me is that car has factory a/c. AND a bottom end (Special as opposed to Roadmaster) AND a convertible! It must have been a special order in 1956.
Thanks for sharing the details you notice.
Am I the only one that is not a fan of the red interior on this turquoise and white car?
Hi John, thanks for sharing what you notice, Lou
Gas pedal start...I have never of such.
Hi Nicky, Happy to read you learned something new on the Channel, Lou
I own a 2018 Buick LaCrosse. But i gurateen u that car won’t be as comfortable as this one.
Thanks for sharing.

What color is the convertible roof?
Hmmm, not sure, I've never seen this car with the top up.
Nice Buick Special!
However, In the '60s and '70s, you were a punchline to the joke since the people usually driving those cars were people with thick and very thick skin, would be commonly associated with the older generations, and their prices were starting to decline from their prime in the 1950s. For example, a 1950s Cadillac that would've cost around 4500 to 5000 dollars or even higher would cost as low as the low 3000s back then. Nowadays, that isn't the case since Classic and Collectible terms would've come later in the late 70s to early 80s, for the '90s and 2000s, that would apply to '60s Cars and '70s Cars. Right now, the same thing would also be said for some 80s and heck, even some 90s cars.
