A memorable FA Cup third round game at Elland Road in 1978 featuring a Leeds player punch-up, a pitch invasion, mounted police, a blatant penalty denied... and a City win.
what you don`t see is Corrigan putting 2 fingers up to the kop behind his back after city`s second goal adding fuel to the fire and then the pitch invasion(most away fans i`ve seen at er credit to city)
Absolute quality, thanks for posting. Takes you right back, glad I was around to experience the matchday experience of the 70s and 80s, not the same now.
Remember the game well as I was half way up the Kop. Brilliant game and atmosphere to match, you don't see the guy who ran form the Lowfields and attacked Corrigan or the charge from the Kop. As a young guy I was crushed on the wall at the bottom of the kop had to climb over the wall for safety and was battered by the riot police fro doing so. I think the fences are installed at Elland Road as a result of this. The violence was depressing during those days.
I'm a Leeds fan that was in the kop and the City fans on here are correct, a small group of City came in and showed their colours just before kick off (sort of bottom right looking towards the pitch). They didn't last long but fair play to them. Always a good ding dong with City home and away back then.
Great eventful game. City v Leeds games were always good especially at Elland Road. I've been there watching City and it's not for the faint of heart. How did McQueen stay on the pitch after that punch and that tackle which should have been a penalty? Probably because it was a tougher and different game back then. Good luck to Leeds getting back in the PL where they belong and playing City again.
Wow. What a game...thanks for posting!!!! I'm London Leeds and Elland Rd was such an intimdating place back then. Respect to City for the numbers but my mate who was City said you kopped a spanking after the game. But.....what a game and how good were some of those names.....legends.
first time I've seen it too since that day. Memorable trip home on the M62 City fans everywhere and uproar when the then popular Peter Swales came past our coaches in his car. Cloughies Forest put us out next round.
@nivlek44 Maybe you can help; I thought it was this game but obviously not as I think Leeds won 1-0, but the highlight was an absolutely superb save by Joe Corrigan, the ball was speeding into the top right hand corner and Joe was diving for it but Clarke(I think) got a head to it and somehow Joe changed direction and kept it out. He was an ace keeper-kept out of the national side by Shilton and Clemence. Today England hasn't got a keeper of a fraction of Joe's ability.
i remember elland road in the 70s going there as a kid you always felt you were on the edge of a riot especially against the clubs who brought a few fans. yes a different world - tackling was actually allowed!
Was at the game Brilliant times.Leeds bricked our coach on the way home.Shit myself coming out of the ground Leeds were hitting anyone without Leeds colurs
i was there in 78 there were about 15 city fans in the kop end we went onto the pitch just before kick off because 15 against all the leeds fans unfair number leeds fans were like a pack of animals so get your facts right city fan for life
I was there,You dont get that sort off noise today bring back the 70's...

what a match this was...full of incident.great days
the commentator is amazing at 0:13 he says "but the refs view is better than mine" so different to now the refs get no respect
@infrasleep Corrigan's save was from another FA Cup game but in the previous season - 76/77.
Harvey wearing the red Scotland keepers jersey I believe.
I was also at this game....Bottles chucked over the walls at us and loads of fights outside.
brilliant!! the good old days...good football with realistic refs.
