Great vid. I have never seen a squirrel dog working before. Like any hunting with a dog, they make it far more interesting and rich than hunting alone. I'm a retired Chief from N.J. Fish & Wildlife and I wish you the best in your career sir.

That's a mountain curr I personally prefer a fiest but you would train in the same way you would a begal as a puppy drag a squrill on the ground and hang it up in a tree once they tree it make sure there barking and give them praise and a treat

If you have good genes there really isn’t much training that goes into it. They will chase mainly squirrel and only really hunt a squirrel but they do chase deer and rabbit but just buy a trash breaker collar

People have laughed at my Dachshunds until they start treeing squirrels & catching one themselves on occasion.
I doubt that the hunting world will switch to Dachshunds but they work for me & they love the chase.

In PA during hunters education course, rule is can fire shotgun in air but not rifle.
Can use 22 rimfire 17 rimfire or a pellet gun 177 or 22 to squirrels on ground, if in tree have to use shotgun.
22lr can go 1.5 miles plus more if fired in air.
