Always happy to hợp tác with you, pal! Video hay quá, and it really puts an interesting perspective on getting around in VN without knowing Vietnamese.
Thank you anh Phuc for participating in this video. I always have fun collaborating with you. Can't wait to see your videos!
@@WhatThePho --Sorry, but after watching Phuc Map speaking Vietnamese, I just can't stop saying to myself: "What the Phuc!" He should have changed his name...kkk.
@@trungson6604 change his name to Ku Klux Klan?
When Phúc mập started being the translator for Van at the restaurant I started cracking up 😂
I just can't stop saying to myself: "What the Phuc!" He should have changed his name...kkk.
Phúc actually knows more Vietnamese than I do.
I’ve visited Vietnam at least a dozen times. Never really had a language problem and I tried and failed miserably to learn Vietnamese. Saigon has 2 very good bus lines and there is an app to plan your routes. I was almost always the only “gringo” on the bus and made several wonderful friends! Vietnamese people top my list of favorite “furiners”!😀
Why didn't you call pretty Van?
@@bcao123 Haven’t been since early 2019.
Living here in Vietnam for over 1 year in Thu Duc City. My Wife is Vietnamese and speaks English. I am trying to understand the language and Vietnamese are kind in helping me but many want to learn English and so strike up a conversation with me and like my accent since I am from the US. They just want to improve their English language skill and I totally understand. In my case my Wife takes care of things here in Vietnam with the money and the language barrier I have. I find Vietnamese are generally very helpful. I do think and I do speak some Vietnamese and I feel it to be helpful in living in Vietnam. One should not live in Vietnam as a foreigner and totally disregard the language and culture and live separately from the Vietnamese populace .
you can contact me to improve your Vietnamese, I am living in Thu Duc city also
I’m half Vietnamese and my wife is Vietnamese and I still suck at speaking Vietnamese.😂😂. I guess I never felt like I needed to learn the language because my parents spoke English to each other at home (mom is Filipino) and since I was born here in the US English was my first language and it never bothered me that I didn’t know Vietnamese until now.
Ha.hahaha. 😝😝😝😝😝🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣@@Elite_Employee
Please, sir. I am in Vietnam and I need a job. Getting a job is difficult for me
@chidinma. lifestyle are You Rick Man I think you don't need the Job..
This video is super fun and I love people interactions and how they still try to help
It depends where you live, this video is filmed in HCMC I think? Which has more people that speak English than some other cities in Vietnam. But totally agree with you and Phúc Mập, yes it is possible to "get by" living in Vietnam without learning Vietnamese, but you are not really LIVING here. The language has a reputation for being difficult but honestly if you really apply yourself and you are fully immersed (don't just hang out with other foreigners) it does not take that long. I moved to Hanoi last April and within 2 months could hold basic conversations with sellers, in cafes and restaurants etc. Obviously I have kept learning in the months since I moved here, yes it's difficult but you just have to keep going. You are really limiting yourself and you are missing out on so many great interactions if you don't at least try!
Yes, you can survive in Vietnam if you could speak English well and MONEY is the key. You can use your fingers to do the job. Vietnamese are very friendly and helpful.
I love ❤ and miss amazing Vietnam ❤
Van, Hi. I am frequent guest in Hanoi and sometimes in Tp.HCM. In respect of GRAB, it is very annoying for the driver to ring you when you cannot speak Vietnamese. This only happens in Vietnam and not other ASEAN countries. But what I learnt is to say if the driver the rings you is to say "một phút" (one minute) or "một phút, cảm ơn bạn" (one minute, thank you) and then hang up. It works every time. Of course be at the address you are supposed to be. I hope this is useful for your viewers! Cheers, Scott
Thank you for this tip, I have basic Vietnamese skills and get nervous when I do not understand a quick question on the phone, this tip will be useful to me very soon
She knows Viet bro, she just acted like she's too good to speak it. These kinds of people make Vietnamese look bad....a banana
I visited veitnam in November 2023 ..
Beautiful country with insane landscape
A paradise indeed
Loved my 13 days in veitnam
This video is great, had a smile on my face the whole time. Been back and forth to Vietnam many times because my wife is Vietnamese and I love it there. Hope to be there more when I retire. Both you and Phuc Map are fun to watch. Thank you for this
I’m flying to Southeast Asia next week, and I will spend a month in Vietnam. I’m in shock after watching this video. 😂 I can’t even say ‘Thank You’ in Vietnamese yet. My first language is Portuguese, and I’m totally relying on Google Translator. It will be a fun experience!
Great vlog, especially from the perspective of an American speaking only English at this time😊
This is one of the best videos that you ever made in my opinion. I like the comedy in this video as well. Glad we have a CZcamsr like you.
I really appreciate it 😍😍
I love Vietnam ❤ very deep ❤from my heart❤.. I can talk in 8 languages but not Vietnamese..... and yes Vietnamese language is very very Hard Hard Hard to learn 😂🎉😅😢🎉😅😢🎉
Hi Van, your English pronunciation is amazingly sounds very close to that of native speakers despite only seven years of US residency.
This guy was awesome, great information and his Vietnamese is smooth like a local.your last 2 guest were very helpful for myself as I prepare for a trip in April. Thanks van. now I need to check this guys channel.
What a great video. Taught me so much. Thank you. I really enjoyed watching you both and learning some great information.
Phúc mập nói tiếng Việt giỏi quá. Great video. Thank you both!
This video was so enjoyable to watch! I hope to return to Vietnam. I went for the first and only time last February. Learning even just a dozen phrases was so helpful and the Vietnamese people responded so positively to me. (I actually learned a few phrases from a language video you did about a year ago.) 👍🏼
Brilliant video,thanks Van
love your content. Keep you good work
Your videos are enjoying n very informative n love them so much
According to my personal experience even kids speak several languages in Vientam O_O Extremely educated people!
Fun video! Hope to see more like this. I have to say I made many friends on Italki in 2018 when I was trying to learn Vietnamese. I ended up meeting my wife on Italki so I can definitely recommend. It’s great for learning and making friends all around the world.
I’m glad to hear!!
You are such an angel to share what you do. Things seem a little different for me as I go out to enjoy the day... so being able to watch your presentations seems like much more than the message delivery here & the simple entertainment it is. I'm grateful for the help me be smart please / thankyou aspect. The social skills and behavior you've developed really shine... there must be a lot of others that would agree you have a lot goin' for you. thanks, gracias, enjoy
Thank you so much for your kind words!
What the Pho, long time no see. You look prettier every day.
What a very fun video! I really liked it. Subscribed and look forward to more.
Great video concept!!! I can definitely relate to some funny situation when talking with locals, especially on the phone 😂
Haha now I understand the feeling of foreigners who live in Vietnam
I did not know that about 4 and 13 being unlucky in Vietnam. It is interesting that buildings there do not have the 4th floor in them. Here where I live, buildings do not have the 13th floor. May you and your family have a healthy and prosperous year.
It chinese loan word tứ(四si) mean four and tử(死si) mean dead 😅😅
Vietnamese are very helpful n always help tourists with the language n speak in English too
I like your videos a lot,you looks like you having fun creating the content. As a vietnamese adoptee i hope i can have the chance to revisit Vietnam soon, have already been there 6-7 times.Usually icame a long way using sign language and a few words.
Cảm ơn em đã đặt lịch nói chuyện trên italki với chị nhé. Chúc kênh ngày càng phát triển hơn nữa. Tiếng Việt thật đẹp!❤
Dạ em cảm ơn chị Chi! 🥰🥰🥰
Van is so pretty now and 😊 Fun video! Thank you.
Great vidio Van. Well done.💯💯💯
We are living in the tech era. You could use google translate from the beginning then when you have blending in the culture, you could start to learn some phase or slang for smooth transition lol
Great video!
Just like your friend, my in laws are Vietnamese, but I’m a different type of asian. Mother in law doesn’t know English at all and I should learn some basic phrases to be able to communicate a little with her lol.. for many years I only say hi and bye, but my wife does tell me how to greet. This video does inspire me to learn so thanks Van.. Cam On 😄
Wow,really love your videos, can`t wait to see more, and you really helped me a lot while I`m planning a trip to Vietnam~can`t thankyou enough
I will book a tour with you, on my bucket list.. ❤
Thank you. I will be in vietnam on a regular basis in the near future. Yes, i agree italki is fantastic.
Cảm ơn 2 vợ chồng bạn đã làm video, chia sẻ video về cuộc sống ở Việt Nam❤❤❤❤
Great, just level up my vietnamese speaking thanks of you !
Keep up the great vids Van 👍. Love your videos. ❤
Great vid Vẫn!
I was in Vietnam last year and used Grab frequently. I would get calls often, respond in English and they would hang up. They always showed up anyway except for one time Hanoi when there was confusion (on my part) about the pickup location. I would guess that Americans tip a little better due to our tipping culture.
hi van im in Vietnam right now there is no language barrier at all the locals helps us using google translate and some people even speak english. soo good experience
E phát hiện ra kênh chị từ năm 2021, theo dõi chị đến giờ, nể phục chị quá 😊❤
My wife came to the U.S. when she was 6 and only spoke Viet with her parents so she is always nervous that her Viet is not advanced enough to carry on a conversation with say someone on a street about current events or whatever. I don't speak any Vietnamese but I can always pick out when someone else is speaking it in public as I recognize the vowel sounds and cadences of the language.
No ending sound haha. Nice, night, nine all sound the same
What a fun video!? Keep it up! 👍👍👍
I dont speak Vietnamese and get by well by texting. Or using google translate. If youre here for a few years can work out but if youre here longer definitely need it.
Phuc Mac seems Awesome!!!!!
Amazing video !
Hi Vun were currently here in HCMC there's evidently struggle to communicate and thanks for your other videos about scams amd how to avoid theme. Cheers
Very enjoyable video.
Just saw this channel. Love it
Your English is outstanding!
I really like this video thank you so much. I Love to learn new Vietnamese phrases and phuc map is also really really cool.
Thank you
I love U so much when U sharing anything in VN thanks agian😍
The only thing bad about Google Translation, is that it doesn't have the option to use the correct pronouns. But I think most Vietnamese get the gist of it and are not offended.
Makes me wants to go back again, which i most definitely would.
Excellent video idea with hilarious results! 👋👍
Smile you're on candid camera
Hi great video long time subscriber you are very talented 🙏
It's must be a lot of your workload on the video!! Nice to watch it!!
I don’t use ride apps but I didn’t know that they phone you. I use a motorcycle and so I don’t need to use taxis
Hilarious video, I loved it very much!
Vietnamese has one big issues for westerners : stress on syllables, which *changes* the whole meaning of a word.
Too complicated.
The video host is cute, though.
Nice I learned alot
Van Vu , I've been to DaNang, Hue, and Hoi An had no problems getting Grab thru the app . We only speak English and love Vietnam 🇻🇳 obtw we use ride share alover the world
1 Word Outstanding
I love Vietnam. I love the Vietnamese. Wish to go and live there even for a short time, maybe 3 to 6 months. Why i love the Vietnam and the Vietnamese?
I live in Morong, Bataan-- where the boat people ( Indo- Chinese refugees- Cambonians, Laotians, and Vietnamese) were settled and camped here from 1980 to 1990's , sponsored by UNHCR.
We've/ i've got so many Vietnamese (refugees) friends. In fact i almost, ALMOST, had been married a beautiful Vietnamese lady.❤❤❤
AWESOME!🤩
Very interesting video. I like it.
Wow great video Bé Vân. I just learned something from your video about “con giáp thứ 13”..
Haha glad it was helpful for you!
180k followers? Well done and great video! Helpful!
I think I'm falling in love with you
Channel
Vanvu...i can listen to you all day....not needing to understand what you are saying...i will be in bliss. 😂
Very good advice my friend, same thing applies in Thailand ..learn the language and life is much more fulfilling.
Van, your English is quite excellent overall, but now you really need a brutal coach to move you to higher fluency. I did this for English teachers in Korea and it was a great experience for everyone.
I have attempted to learn Vietnamese on and off for over 50 years with very little success. The solution was simple, I married a Vietnamese woman who speaks fair English.
Your comment made my day 😂
The waiter probably was seeing into another universe when he was translating for you lol
I will add this to my to-do list. I live in California, I want to sponsor English books to Vietnamese kids. WHAT THE PHO, let me know if you can help me do that.
Is there 1 hire-car app tends to have more English speaking ( at least basic simple English) drivers?
he speaks vietnamese pretty good ❤❤
I love you Vietnam and good luck girls.
Really good, i am Eagerly to come to Vietnam middle june 16th 2024, thankyou for your speach, i like it

If I have to go somewhere like the airport I get my hotel friend to arrange the car
depends what area of the city you are in I suppose.. first time I lived in vn for a yr I couldn't speak a word and got along fine but I lived in D7, Phu My Hung.. I suppose if you live in other areas it would be a good idea to speak some Vietnamese at least.. if someone is gonna live in another country it is always wise and respectful to at least TRY to learn some of the language.. its just common sense really!
Trust me - it's a real struggle for us foreigners.
I'm sure no matter what place you end up, you find the way of communicate and I find body gestures also help!
Hi
I am from nepal
Nice information❤
Khá lâu Vân bận không lên video...thường xuyên!?
It's been a while since I last saw your video...time to resume yea!?😊
The dream team 👌
I didn't know 4th floor was not good. Thx.
Third wheel can also be referred to as Kẻ mạo danh thứ ba
I would generally use Vasco translator V4 for vietnam as it can handle vietnamese in addition to the 108 languages. And with the SIM card, translation is free for life worldwide. If you then have a 2, everyone can talk in their own language and direct the translator to the other person who understands that language best. Communication can be so easy.
Interesting! I'm wondering if it would be the same in rural area ...
