- This innovative knife design incorporates a 3 inch knife with a unique scissor design. I was pretty impressed with the overall design of this knife. If they used a bit better quality of steel in their production, even if we saw a bit of a price increase, it would absolutely be worth it. I give it an overall B- as it is produced right now. A better steel would easily bring it to an A- for me.

I have this and I really like it. Sure, the steel could be better, and hopefully, we get an upgrade, but for $20 it is worth it. Blade and scissors cut well, and it is well made, at least mine was.
The saving grace of this tool is that it is inexpensive, big plus in my book.
Well the quality of the steel used is a huge part of the product. It’s like the horrendous $4 knives sold at WM.
Roxon is an awesome chinese brand, and they do quality budget stuff. However yeah since it's budget we can't get super quality steel, but I believe since they are going pretty well, their tools will improve and get better

One of the best multi tool scissors I have tested.
The new version S501U is really great and fixed all the issues you were concerned with on this on.
Civvivi has proved the market for $60 d2 knives.
December 2023 and I just got mine. Mine looks and feels like better quality than yours. No issues with finish and no issues with the scissors. Either they've significantly improved the quality or I just got lucky
I cut a lot of steel banding and shrink wrap at work. If someone made something like this with a better blade and snips that could cut banding, I'd pay good money for that.
If they made this one out of premium steel, I would absolutely buy it too.
@@txtoolcrib If they want to continue to compete with the top companies, Roxon has to do it by upgrading the steel quality. Make the whole thing with 8crMoV steel and maybe use D2 steel on the blade. That would be a Leatherman and Victorinox killer tool.

in the worl of multitool roxon's scissors are a giant among others. its the right tiool already for most folks as long as yoju dont falll for the hype and marketing of the leading brands.
2024 and the same scissor issues on the KS2 Elite. And that one has good steel on it!
I have the same one! I have had it about a year now and it works well. But I have never EDCd it because I have others that I prefer over it. I carry a Swiss Tool Spirit as a multitool and pair it with a Ganzo knife and a pair of USB flashlight and I am golden
It needs improvement, but I really like this concept.
I got this one and I love it. EDC scissors are just as important as EDC knives for me and this gives me both! The only thing which is a big negative for me is that you can't take the scissor blades apart to sharpen. There may be a way to remove a rivet from the handle that would allow the blades to open further maybe, but I haven't had a chance to try it yet. Has anyone had any luck with that?
For a multitool, they did good with the blade metal choice. Most people do not know what materials there are, and do not care. Most would prefer a Stainless steel to any other one that knife affictionados in the US seem to consider mandatory.

I have the Roxon S801S multi-tool. I saw it and thought it was kind of different. It is kind of neat but difficult to use at the same time. It won't replace my Leatherman(s) for sure. I do like the scissors that are similar to this knife. Leatherman should do something like that with good steel.
I have it, I just haven't had a chance to use it yet.
I work in a hospital and found that I always needed a pair of really good scissors that could get through a patient wristband or sheet of paper. these were like an answered prayer from god. The scissors are absolutely monstrous. The blade was acceptable, needed sharpening to be really good, I like the shape, my ONLY gripe is the thumb stud location is all wrong. it's so far from the pivot that it's impossible to just flip open. they even made it with the space for the stud to be in the right spot!
That gripe aside, I cannot possibly sing this thing's praises enough. If I ever lose or break it, I will be goddamn sad.
The upgraded version of the multitool that has these scissors is also a monster that I don't know how I ever lived without. That tool plus a little set of 1/4 inch drive sockets is the best emergency car tool kit I can think of.
I have that version as well. Just need to get around to reviewing it.

As for the finish I got some marks from tooling/stamping on my leathermans surge and raptor (not on the victorinox though)...
My new Surge came with tooling marks (also missing the file)... functionally solid, but at over $100 there shouldn’t be this many issues. By contrast, Victorinox is just fantastically consistent in the QC department.
By chance you know if the blade can be replaced?

I bought their S801S six months ago. It's ok, interesting design. The scissors are REALLY good, and I love the fact that it came with 1/4 inch bit adapter, and the tungsten glass breaker. However, like what Ben said, the steel on their multitool is also too soft and the blade didn't hold its edge even from just cardboard cutting. The pliers came misaligned, and only designed for light duty use. Also, the can opener is too small to open a certain shape of cans. There is no lock for the tools in the middle, and I am not a fan of having corkscrew on my multitool. Long story short, I'm waiting for the wave+ to go on sale.
I have one of these tools. My one doesn't have any of the issues with the finish quality, all edges are machined well and line up perfectly. It has a way more consistent bead blasted finish as well (looks the same on all surfaces)
Unfortunately, my one still has the soft steel on the scissors :(
Maybe the scissors are more designed for paper/card? When they're sharp they are CRAZY sharp and perform really nicely.
It’s a good design, they just need to use better steel is all.
I don't have any rust or surface finish problem on mine. The only issue that I had was a poorly sharpened blade, which was corrected after a few hours on the grinding stones. Lee Valley carries this multitool at 26.50$CA / 22.50$US. Keep up your excellent work!
Maybe I just got a bad one. I was rather disappointed in the quality. I do like the design though.
@@txtoolcribI was far from being impressed with the blade sharpness when I looked at it. I don't have any other Roxon knives or multitools so I can't compare their quality overall. Only time will really tell us if their products are improving or not.
@@txtoolcrib Comparing yours to mine, I'd say you just got unlucky. You even got a cracked liner-lock. Send it back for a new one.

Also - I will add that as a paramedic - the leatherman raptor is a dogshit waste of money. The blade is too thick and ungainly, and dulls just as fast as a one dollar pair of penny cutters when you're going through the types of shit that penny cutters need to eat (they also can't do finer tasks or really thin, chewy fabrics, which trauma shears can) the handle is a nightmare of hot spots, and the tools on them are pointlessly shit. The glass breaker sucks (I used it once and it hurt so badly that I went straight back to my spring loaded punch) the seat belt ripper is pointless, the ring cutter is pointless (all you need is dental floss to get damn near any ring off without ruining it, and they ain't cutting a tungsten ring anyways) the only tool I ever found myself using on that piece of shit was the oxygen wrench.
And leatherman doesn't even offer a sharpening service. So now that my scissors are dull, nobody wants to sharpen them so I'm basically SOL since the geometry is all wonky and they don't sharpen like normal scissors. I'd take the scissors on this roxon over the shears on the leatherman raptor any single day in any situation. All the raptor had was a nice sheath and I appreciated the open/close carry and adjustable angle sheath.
that tool basically put me off leatherman forever. Overpriced, underthought.
Well, again, disappointing to hear. I would rethink Leatherman though. There is a reason people consider them to be the best. They make a wide variety of different multi tools that would be considered at or near the top of their class. Thanks for sharing your experiences with us.
Absolutely excellent point about how soft the scissor steel is. I used mine to open a bunch of plastic clamshell packages and presents during Christmas to make “fool ya” gifts and the blades ended up catching due to the many, many blemishes. The complaints about the soft steel on this were “fixed” on the larger all-in-one multitool called the s801 I think and got upgraded to the s801s with better steel, better knife, lock on saw and an awl in place of pry bar. If you try the Victorinox gardener (I think it’s the Rangergrip 55?) with huge scissors and long saw, the scissycan cut tree branches and the saw takes care of everything else.
I have the s801 as well. I haven't had an opportunity to use just yet though. It will be coming soon. I would like to try a Rangergrip 55 at some point.

I agree, sometimes you get what you pay for. I do however like the design of the scissors. I have seen other Chinese units that have had similar designs in the past, this is just marketed under the Roxon brand.
