  • Hey Plant Friends
I wanted to share my experience when my pothos and zz plant cuttings started to rot in water. There is easy fix. If your node stem has more space, I just cut thr rotten bit. in my example here , there is no space to cut really. I will have to cut to the next node if I want.
please share your comments. thank you for watching

Hi Eileen, thank you so much and I really hope that it is helpful. To add last thing if cutting is from an unhealthy plant, it may still lead to rot! Thank you for your kind praise😊

I’m here because my pothos’ roots started getting mushy and the tips of their leaves are starting to yellow and brown :( I live in Canada and a couple of days prior to me noticing the rotting of the roots and yellowing of the leaves, sunlight was scarce. I have to move them all to a large window just now facing outside, hoping daylight might save them. I’ll be heartbroken if they die :( It’s been 3 weeks of me propagating them in water and they’re also very slow in rooting. It’s so challenging to take care of tropical plants in a non-tropical country!!

      👋
I presume they are still in water. If the stem is long, just take another cutting if it's healthy and start in a different glass. If roots are rotting in water, mostly due to not much light. Keep it in well lit area. Remove the mushy parts. I really hope it works out. If it makes you feel better , I have lost many plants. Recently I lost my 3 meter tall monstera

I did my part, liked subscribed now i can ask a question :) My question is in my balcony 1 hour direct sun at 1100 am only, water is slightly salty since near sea, my plants die a lot. I cant save them once the leaves and stem rots, water less i know, so i had shift plants to 4 inch grow plastic pots, now top soil gets dry too often but dont know how much to water and how to set frequency, i am afraid this winter i will loose the rest too... i think i am not the right parent.

Hi, I don't have experience with houseplants outdoor in a balcony. I find watering requirements you figure out eventually. I will suggest that if you have changed the soil media and it dries quickly, since changing soil media, are plants not dying? If yes then it seems they were getting too much water. You have to water more frequently if your soil is drying quickly (I have very fast drying media for my philodendron verrucosum and I water every 10 days , they cry out for water and then I remember 😂). May be buy that moisture thermometer which indicates if plants need to be watered? I have killed few to rot so there is no good plant parent. Thing helped me the most if I start to chill out more about plants they thrive and if I care a lot they die. So in terms of plant parent, I think we have all killed some plants. You must have heard this a lot but sometime we don't do it, plant has more chances of dying with over water than under water. I really hope that your plant survives
Which country are you in , that plays a part too.

Use a potting mix with bark, perlite, cocopeat, Vermiculite and Charcoal. This would help. And for watering use filter water for very problematic plants

I have actually never calloused on pothos but on snake plant. Pothos always root super quick every time except when I ignored it and moved it to darker spot. It has rooted now when I moved it into light spot.

@@pujasaha1681 Zz one stem just fell off and I moved it into water . It started to rot (checked many weeks later 😊) after that removed the rotting bit with tissue. And after that it rooted but long processing time. Try to remove the rotten bit and dip it in honey. I really hope that it recovers.
