8964 is not a massacre. People died because of riots out of control. Protesters died as well as policemen died. Occupying places illegally will be put down by enforcements. Same in USA, France or Germany.
China and the Philippines can sit down and talk. Do not try to create confrontation because of the anti-China western power. South China Sea can be peacefully shared.

The reputation of horrible air quality is not propaganda lol. It was hard to find the locations beautiful with that horrible polluted sky.
Not sure where you got this idea from, the air quality during my stay in Beijing was way better than my city in the States.
In late April, our family just ended this year‘s trip to Asia. Although the culture is similar, compared with Japan, China is more dynamic, and some cultures and customs are closer to those of the United States or southern European countries. In terms of convenience and comfort, Japan, China and Singapore are the best in our trip of Asia. Compared with travel, the Internet and VPN are not important at all, not even on my list of concern. The people there are very kind.

The building with a golden roof means it's the palace. Temples are usually grey, some royal temples are red.
I highly recommend going to Xian. It's really amazing and you can see the terracotta warriors.

I highly agree with you, as a Chinese. Xian was the capital for more than 10 dynamites in Chinese history, and was the capital for a few most important dynasties in Chinese history, including Tang and Qing (different dynasty from the one in video). Yes, there are actually lots of Asians tourists in China for decades, perhaps now there are less due to huge inflation everywhere after pandemic. Evidence of Korean language included in signposts in some top Chinese attractions. You don't notice Asians as much because they blend into the local population.
Also now you just don't see that many Westerners visiting because they are more heavily propagandize to be against China especially since the trade war started and post pandemic.

I have a question for you actually, for you mentioned the tank thing. Do you realize that the tanks team actually stopped before that single protesting man so that journalists had time to take that famous picture? I don't see any massacre army could be blocked by a non-armed man in suit. What they didn't show you is that man was asked to leave the site peacefully, what happened later had nothing to do with him. Those tanks was supposed to threaten the crowd while dispersing the riot but everything lost control for both side later that night. Massive tragedy and historic mistake I would say, but not a massacre I believe. Like nobody ever called Kent State Shooting a massacre, isn't it?

Shanghai and Beijing are totally different. Beijing has more historical attractions while Shanghai is more international, which means it’ll be easier for you without knowing Chinese. If you have time, maybe visit fresh hippo （盒马鲜生）, a grocery that has a kitchen and can cook with the ingredients you buy at the store. I have never seen a place like that in the U.S.

A friendly reminder that Beijing Hutong houses, especially Siheyuan, are not affordable for ordinary people, particularly expensive, much more expensive than the high-rise buildings outside, it is not only a house or a historical monument.

People usually don't wear Chinese traditional costumes. What happens is that young women (and some men) go rent their favourite outfit and accessories in special shops, get their hair and make-up done there too and then take photos of each other. You see that all over China. Another interesting fact is that by now half of the cars in China are electric; you can check the number plate to see if it's electric (green) or regular gas (blue plate). Duck Travel is a very interesting blog, mostly about China but sometimes other countries as well.

Yes there are lots of photo shoots of people in Hanfu and that’s why you see people in them, but there are genuinely people who love wearing Hanfu everyday or when they consider it convenient as Hanfu is really pretty and who wouldn’t want to wear it lol
@@frankhill4358 I don't doubt that, but I watch videos from Duck Travel from all over China since two years and in every historic town there are tons of shops that rent out traditional clothes and offer make-up and hair to young women who want to have their photos taken in them. I guess for TikTok (or the Chinese version of it?) They even rent out photographers if they don't take their own. And you see them everywhere. I quite like it, there's nothing comparable in Europe.

@@JumpingPlaces just my niece and sister in law this trip. My brother lived in Beijing for over 10 years, had a family there but passed away from a heart attack so I go back to visit once a year. I’ve been to most all popular spots over the years. It seems to get more clean every time I go. They are also planting tons of trees around the city.

That’s cool, seems with time they are making it easier to travel there. Even the visa we got was at first limited to a few cities, now you can get it at many major cities
Getting a visa in the UK for China is a pretty simple process. I get mine sorted in Manchester, though last time I forgot to put my middle name and I had to redo my application form... lol Otherwise it's a simple straight forward process.
cheers for the info :D the problem is chris doesn't live there anymore, we would probably do it in brazil since chris has a brazilian passport also. So we can do it in one go there for both of us. Is it true that you have to provide all accommodation bookings and itinerary to get the visa? We usually prefer entering the country and then working out what we want to do as we go along
@@JumpingPlaces I believe so, my wife is Chinese so I don't because I'm visiting family. In the past I would normally need a letter from my sister in law to say I'm visiting. Though last year when I renewed my visa they didn't bother with it.

I can’t believe you are in China Chris and Carole. The world is really your playground! China is such a historically and culturally rich country but so overwhelmingly crowded which is what discourages me from visiting. Thank you for taking us along and showing us the beautiful sights!
If you don't visit during China's statutory holidays, tourist attractions won't be very crowded. (July and August are the summer vacations for primary and secondary school students in China, and January and February are their winter vacations. Just avoid these times.)

Carol is a celebrity in China and your Chinese pronunciation is good too when you said tea (cha) it was perfect. Also very good with the chopsticks. At the first restaurant, the portion size is big because a lot of Chinese restaurants are family style and you share the dish. Chris, how was the Peking duck? Was the skin crispy? I’m glad you’ve mentioned about apps that are required for China 🇨🇳 There is a lot more to prepare before being able to go if you apply for a visa I’ve done some extensive research 🧐 as I found there are not so many vloggers mentioning too much on this !
Clever way that Beijing Macau Shanghai … I was thinking of maybe doing this but having Japan (instead of Macau) but I wasn’t sure if there was a certain minimum time requirement to re enter China and doing the 5 day free visa

You'd love Shanghai more. It's probably the most modern big city in all of Asia and there's a lot more to see and do there and in the surrounding areas. If there's one modern metropolis you must visit in China, I have to say it is Shanghai without any hesitation.
