I would come back to the property at 3:00 a.m. and run my mower for a few minutes, then leave before the cops showed up. At least the neighbor would have a legitimate complaint.

Most people will appreciate seeing a dude busting his ass working in the yard , no matter the time . Even 7-7:30am i’m usually unbothered using gas equipment, i can only think of 1 or 2 instances .
I feel like he did that 2nd mowing for this very reason lol.
Since I didn't see the police arrive, he was either bluffing and didn't call, or more likely, he did call and the police told him he needed to wait until 10 pm to lodge a complaint. He was completely out of line, and you were so polite! I'm impressed. 😊

65 years ole, have had two neighbors from hell, one in front of my property and one in the back of my property….guy in the rear died in 2008, the saying is a true neighbor from hell never died, so the neighbor in the front is 84 ….he may never die.
One thing I noticed with these people that come up and confront workers is the automatic presumption by them that they are somehow three notches above them in the food chain of life. There is an automatic talking down punching down stance indicating this guy is just some kind of servant.
His reaction when you suggested that he help out said it all.

Agreed. I can't handle a lot of certain noises so, knowing I can't be unreasonable and stop everyone going about their business, I buy ear plugs. No drama. I get quiet and others get to continue making their living without my being a goose about it.

Had a guy bitching at me whilst fishing the other day and I did the same kinda thing really, just pointing out I wasn’t doing anything wrong. It's happened on other free mower's channels too. Any free mower should know the laws for their area and rehearse what they will say the day it happens to them. In general... 7am to 10pm, yardwork noise is going to be legal.
And if in the U.S., I'd also be prepared for the day some whack job brings a gun with them ( which is brandishing, menacing (class A felony) or wanton endangerment(class B misdemeanor or Class D felony) if they threaten you with it *at all* in most of the country. Brandishing is 3 months to 7 years. Class B misdemeanors are punishable by up to 90 days in jail and a fine of up to $250. Class D felony is punishable by 1 to 5 years in prison.
Note: Brandishing will be in states like California. The others will be in states like Kentucky. If it's first offense, they'll probably get a big fine and probation. But it does use up their "first offense" and gives them a criminal record.

Good neighbors, kindness and the spirit of keeping up the neighborhood for the benefit of everybody - you can't PAY for that, it has to come from your neighbors' hearts! I am fortunate. I'm older - 71 female own my small home. The neighborhood is a mix of retirees like me and young couples with a couple of young kids and dogs (I love the dogs, and for some reason I can't fathom, the kids seem to love me) and they are wonderful at offering to help me, especially in the Wisconsin winters when I'm shoveling a foot of snow off the front walkway so neighbors can walk their dogs safely and the mail carrier can deliver to my front door. It's a way I stay in shape (yard work in general year round), good cardio work-out and been doing it since I was old enough to lift a shovel and help my mom (dad was always at work), as we get around 30-40 inches of snow here during the typical winter season - snow blowers scare me, I won't lie!

He poisoned my cat who never left my side porch with spiked water. I am a teacher, so I love kids laughing, he hated everything.

I work nights and get woke up on a regular basis by yard guys mowing and trimming, but I greatly appreciate what my yard guys do so I assume that my neighbors feel the same about their guys. With their equipment, they can finish a yard in one half hour that would take me several hours to do by myself. Losing a little sleep is a small price to pay for having these guys doing the great job they do. They are worth every dollar they charge.
If you ever go back take several friends with you. Make sure there are enough people so that all that "noisy" equipment is running at one time. Don't let people like that ruin your day! He's probably miserable every day! Great job!

Don’t let idiots define your day. You are always upbeat and positive when you do these lawns and are helping others. I am glad you politely stood your ground. I think I would carry a pair of the disposable ear plugs for those type of occasions. If they confront you about the noise just offer them the disposable ear plugs. Kill them with kindness!
I find these lawn videos of guys cleaning up these overgrown yards quite relaxing...lol....even the ones where there is no drama.
I can understand how the noise can be annoying as I am on a different sleep schedule from everyone else and when the neighborhood lawns get cut it drives me up the wall since they wake me. I never go and yell at them though, what a jerk. I might have had to go slower and drag out the noise. When he said it wasn't his problem I would have had to say that his headache wasn't my problem either.
That guy TRULY is a pain in the rear. I would have loved to hear the cops give him the riot act for taking up their valuable time, having to respond to something like this foolishness. So, he says he doesn't care about other people, huh? THAT was Captain Obvious!

My neighbors have both fallen on hard times more than once and I've always helped out. A 20 minute mow job isn't the end of the world and it feels good to help people. Isn't that what we are supposed to do? I don't get people nowadays.

I was always raised that we help thy neighbor. You made good point sometimes people fall on hard times. Lending a helping hand feels good to. I'm in process of helping a neighbor move his stuff he's a dad work long hours cause unfortunately his wife has medical issues. I seen him out there moving things and when he sat down I could see him dozing off. I went over offered help to do it for him while he got rest. He try to pay me I told him no need that's what neighbors are for.

The sound of lawns being cut is obnoxious. It can affect some people more than others. Then again people who will actually sit and watch videos of lawns being cut aren't very likely to understand that.
