- Winston Miranda is the chef behind Saraba, the only Garifuna food truck in Los Angeles, and one of the only Garifuna restaurants in all of the US. Winston’s passion and pride lies in the cuisine of the Garifuna people, the descendants of Africans and Arawaks originally from the Caribbean island of St. Vincent. The Garifunas were exiled to the Honduran coast in the eighteenth century and many later settled in Belize. Winston serves curried chicken, oxtail, fried fish, hudut, plantains and more. A former pro soccer player, Winston devoted his later years to the culinary arts and hopes that his daughter will one day have the same passion he has for making Garifuna food.

I Grew up nearby a Garifuna community back in the Caribbean peninsula it is amazing to see someone is preserving their traditions, also the food is amazing. Kudos !!

My dad is Honduran and I grew up listening to Garífuna music, now I MUST try this
I love Belizean food. In Brooklyn on Sundays they have a food rally where they have bomb food. I used to go get fresh panedas. She’d make them right there. It was sooo good 💛
Yooo where in BK??
Where? I live in Brooklyn! My father is Garifuna from Belize
So weird I did a school report on British Honduras also known as Belize. I've never been but apparently it's Paradise. That food looks so good as I lay in my bed and think why is this guy's truck not down the street from my house
I wouldn’t say it paradise but it’s pretty nice 😅
It's pretty good as a tourist destination, but I'd avoid Belize City because crime is pretty high there.
@@hayashi996That is actually pretty over popularized by International media. The City is actually pretty safe. Similarly to big cities in the US, you just shouldn’t walk around at night alone.
@@ethanhunt2730 you say belize city is safe but my friend got his whole gate stolen in broad daylight
It was half of the gate
Love me some Belizean onion sauce, Marie Sharps, Belikin, and some stewed chicken with stewed beans and rice. Some fry jacks for breakfast with beans. I lived in Belize for five years and try and go back any time I can. Placencia is my hub now. Can’t wait to get back.
Marie sharps is the best hot sauce I’ve ever had

I opened my own breakfast and comfort food place coz of this series. Thanks y'all!
Shout out to all my Garifona people!!!! Bless.
I'll take this over some fancy restaurant any day
I remember years ago I took my ex to a fancy resteraunt for her birthday. Costed like $60 a plate so with drinks tips tax etc I paid a little over $200. Never been so disappointed in the value to cost of a meal in my life. The main course looked like an appetizer. They seemed to put more effort in making the meal look pretty than tasty. Never again. Some of the best meals I've ever had came from little hole in the walls and food trucks.
For sure
@@ariefraiser140 I’ve been to some really incredible fine dining restaurants; these places deserve their reputation and prices. I still remember the food I ate 25 years ago in one such place. I’ve never had better. And I was a nobody - obviously young and someone who saved up for a long time just to dine there. We were still treated with respect and given as much attention that the US Senator across the room received. I’ve also eaten at some pretty sketchy food trucks and stalls; some amazing, some passed off frozen chicken nuggets and clam strips as “cuisine”. Moral is, you’ll find good and bad at every level of the restaurant industry. It’s a shame to disparage a whole category of restaurants because you had a mediocre meal in single one. But to each their own; there’s no right or wrong answer.
There is a Garifuna restaurant in Chicago as well.
Garifuna Flava
@@sharonphelps3271 is that the one on 63?

The Mosquito coast is located on the Atlantic coast of Nicaragua and Honduras. I've always wanted to try garifuna food. I will have to travel down to L.A from the Valley to try this.
The Atlantic coast of Central America have more in common with Caribbean countries than with their country's mainland culture due to little to no road infrastructure, as is the case with Nicaragua, which is why they've been able to preserve their culture very well.
Food looks amazing! Will def be on the lookout 👀
He cooks some of the best food I’ve ever had.
Mad respect for my man!!! Love that ideology, culture and his education mentally, the one starts in our homes!!
Love how they show and tell the owners story and the story of the truck/cart/place. But would love some more of the actual cooking and food. Just make the video twice as long.

OMGGG LOOKS AMAZING!!! Imagine if we as a species spent as much time exploring, learning, and celebrating our world's cultures as we do fighting
World would be a far better place.
Travel is so important. Experiencing and appreciating other cultures teaches you so much! Sadly not everyone is and to do that. But man if everyone had the opportunity I think the world would be a much better place.
Y’all need to drop more episodes

Greetings to my Garifuna brothers. Amazing people.
This is why immigrants are important to enriching other countries culture.
Preach!!!!!! Say it Louder so that those in the back can hear you!
Immigrants have since forever though. No one has anything against immigrants in general, people just dislike illegal immigrants. I'm an immigrant, my father escaped Communism and came to the US to build a life and family.
@@hectorgravesantiagonil2118 Eveyone in this country is an immigrant from somewhere else. Except Native Americans!
@@jaibanks7151 Nope. That is a lie. But everyone is descendants of immigrants. Now most are natives (Americans).
Again, everybody loves immigrants, and immigration. They just don't like illegal immigration (or immigration from radical Islamist countries)
@@hectorgravesantiagonil2118 peace and blessing to you and yours!
