    Thanks for your videos. Just wanted to point out that Infiniti does state 30K for replacing the S belt but that seems a bit overkill. I own a G37 coupe and the belt is still in good condition at over 60K. Most guys on the G forums don't replace the belts until after 50K with no complaints of premature belt failure. You didn't mention that the tensioner has 3 notches on top that show where the belt tension should be. If the tension falls out of the range of the 3 notches, you should replace the tensioner. It is also a good idea to inspect the pulleys and replace them especially if you have noise at start up or shut down. Keep up the good work.

      @kova_motive  Před 7 lety +6

      Thanks a lot for your input! Yes, I also think 30k is overkill. I usually do belts around 50k but mine was making some noises. Luckily, all pulleys seem fine and the noise is gone now. Thanks for your added pointers, very useful. I try to include as much as I can in the videos but inevitably, something always gets left out.

    Just replaced belt (possibly original) on my 08 m6 g37s coupe with 105k (I bought it about 7k miles ago). 1/2" ratchet hole. Tried to change mine from above, like you showed. Finally got frustrated enough that I dropped the plastic "splash panel" underneath (ten 10mm bolts, removed with cordless drill), and it was a ten minute job from there. Much easier. Front of car was already up on ramps after oil change. Alex: thank you so much for taking the time to make these g37 videos. VERY appreciated and well-done.

    Thanks for the great video, sir! The Infiniti Stealership wanted $220 for this job on my 2009 G37x sedan (106k miles). I bought my baby gently used in 2013. I don't believe the belt had ever been replaced, but it didn't look as bad as they claimed (stretched with cracks forming)... The wifey and I took 2-ish hours. She completed the majority with her baby hands working magic from above while I fed and pulled the belt from below. We didn't jack the car up or remove the bottom panel.
    Time-consumers: finding a ratchet that fit the square hole, finding a curtain rod to place on the ratchet for leverage, and looping the belt perfectly over each and every pulley.
    My ride started up perfectly, and our marriage is still in tact. GREAT SUCCESS!!!

    I just replaced my belt on my g37 at 85,152 miles on the original belt. Your not kidding it’s a challenge to get the belt around the pulleys. I removed both air intake boxes for better excess to get the belt on so I would have to mess with removing the pull that you moved. Sure it took a little bit of 15 minutes to take off and put on the air boxes, but it save me from fighting to put the belt on and trying to make sure the belt wasn’t moving all over the place or off the pulleys . Other than that I had a good time with my G37 do maintenance oh her. 😘😘😘

    Best vid on youtube for changing the belt on this vehicle. Just got a 2012 and changed the belt today. I would add that if you open the oil filter flap under the car so you can see from the bottom made taking off/ putting on the belt 10 times easier.

    Wonderful video! This is the first time that I have changed the serpentine belt on any car. My G37 already had 117K miles, so I figured it was overdue. Interestingly, the belt looked fine, i.e., no cracks at all and no squeals, probably since it was parked in a garage most of the time and driven primarily in relatively mild Southern California. I carefully studied your video, screen captured the belt and pulley diagram, took pictures of my engine compartment, and went at it. It took a few hours for me to changed out the belt, mainly due to the initial difficulty in placing the 3/8" wrench into the tensioner; and since I decided that it would be a lot easier to remove two of the small central pulley units in order to easily place in the new belt. I did notice that there was an extra pulley on my car than depicted in the manufacturer diagram, but overall the belt looping was not really different. Anyway, thank you very much! You are the Man! (Your video about changing spark plugs on the G37 was awesome, too!... I changed those out about a year ago.)

    I just did mine last night. I realized it will save u a lot of time if you just unbolt the tensioner. Tryn to route the belt behind the tensioner pulley is difficult because of limited space. I was fussin with my belt for an hour last night trying to get the belt in the proper routing. Once i decided to remove that dam tensioner it was done in 15minutes. But your video is a good guide on removing and installing thank you

    I stopped the video at the diagram and went out to change my belt. I knew it was going to be tough getting it back on because it was a pain to get it off. After fooling around for 10 minutes I thought to myself, "there's probably a trick to this." Rather than check the video I removed the bottom plastic engine cover to get the dang thing on. It would have been so much easier to remove that pulley... By the way, the original belt lasted 13 years!!! And thanks for posting this.

  • @ikrivonos
    @ikrivonos Před 4 lety +1

    Replaced recently at 75K, noticed prior replacing, that tensioner mark was at "replace it position". Not sure if the belt was replaced earlier. Disconnecting the radiator hose also helps to reach the belt. Belt condition was ok, except, almost whole length, was split. Checked pulleys, foud that possibly a small piece of rock somehow fell in the pulley groove and rubbed through belt groove. Removing pulley #4 helps a lot also.

    I have a 2010 G37x with 171K miles, not sure if the serpentine belt changed anytime. Recently I found a squeaky noise and ordered a belt from amazon. I felt opening the filter change cover underneath ( no need to remove the entire cover) and removing the coolant reservoir is good enough to the change the belt easily. Bit tricky to push the belt inside the tensioner, once that is done from the underneath, I could work from both top and underneath to place the belt properly. Your video was helpful, especially the diagram. Thank you.

    For those with limited tools and/or stripped pulley bolts, u can replace it without taking anything off. (Besides coolant reservoir). The diagram he has is misleading for the sedan, look it up on Google, and put the belt on the left 2 pulleys. Put it in the general location it should go on the right, if u have the belt around the 2 pulleys on the left it should have the belt flip (direction you need) which is the correct direction for the tensioner. Grab the bottom of the belt on the right side and slip it through, pull the belt and it should be easy to slip it around the tensioner part!

About the RPM model (from Gates): To resist heat and extend service life, RPM Micro-V belts utilize multiple adhesion gum layers and nylon reinforcement in a patented EPDM compound. The RPM belt’s superior construction produces lower heat, noise, vibration and belt slip. What does this mean for a performance vehicle? Although I have a new belt in the garage and ready to slap on, several others including someone that has 170k mi on their G are on the original belt with no adverse issues. So, I am holding out for now. That doesn't necessarily make it smart. But, I thought I would report my experience. We are in the mid-Atlantic area if that makes any difference re humidity levels and propensity for belt cracking (which may be greater in hot desert areas of the Southwest that experience low humidity; again not sure).

    Thx for the video but I ran into a problem w my 08 G35s. It is bigger than 3/8” ratchet, maybe a 1/2”. My problem is the 1/2” ratchet is too thick to fit between the hole and the fan unit. It keeps jamming up against the fan cover so I couldn’t get the ratchet in the hole to release the tension. Haven’t try from underneath the vehicle yet, figured it’ll be the same problem.

    AlexKayRN: Nice job on the video. Q1: before loosening the tensioner to insert the allen key, is it necessary to loosen the Tensioner bolt? Q2: if necessary to remove the idler pulley, what is the recommended torque setting for re-tightening that idler pulley bolt? Also, if changing the tensioner, what is the recommended torque setting for that bolt?

    Love your vids Alex! I have the HR 350z which should be identical. I don't have the old belt, can you please give the belt specs?
    Also I had to do the alternator so I removed the big top coolant line. Do I just top up coolant before I start or do I need to bleed it?
    Any help is much appreciated.

    Is it smart to clean the pulleys with some sort of solvent or a dry cloth while the belt is off? Any other maintenance that can be done while the belt is off?
    Thanks!

    • @kova_motive
      @kova_motive  Před 7 lety

      You can clean the pulleys with something that doesn't leave a slippery coating but I never have. Only thing I would do is check your pulleys for smooth operation. Not much else to do maintenance wise with the belt off.

    pull the fans out !takes 20 minutes remove upper radiator hose 2x 10mm bolts unplug and remove the two air boxes now you have a lot of room to work then it takes 10 minutes to route the belt using a 3/8 breaker bar total time 30 minutes vs 1 hour trying to take the belt out and trying to route the belt scrapping up your hands knuckles etc.....

    Tried this today , everything going ok, got the hard part done, tucking the belt under the tension pulley...so everything going ok , then Im all but done and I need just a lil more slack, to finish , Is that normal ??...it was quite tight, and yes I have the right belt...so I check the Allen key and its fine, so I try to get a little more slack, I had a somewhat skinny allen key so I went to change it...FML.....well even with tension from the breaker bar it opens back up....my bolt seems to be stripped now...FML....EDITED...ok ordered a used OEM tension pulley off EBAY for $25, came today got it on...Thanks !!
