I recently built a system with the i5 12500 and the stock cooler and i found it pretty appalling. it was LOUD! Also the system did not survive a 10 minute run of Cinebench R23 without hitting the high 90's and even eventually 100 degrees on one of the cores.
Cooler was correctly mounted, side panel was off, ambient was 23 degrees.

By the way I have seen that the 12900(non k) comes with more premium cooler. Any chance you can test it?

This cooler won't fit socket 1151 or 1200 right?

Today, I learned how much of a mad lad you actually are. 14C ambient? Who sets the thermostat to be that cold?

You should use some Blender renders as a benchmark, such as the BMW scene. Those can make CPUs and GPUs pretty toasty when under a full Blender load.

I also hate the mechanism for mounting. Everyone seems to just mount it without effort, I had a good 30min fight with that sucker the first time I placed in the MoBo.
And I didn’t really felt it clicked all the way trough.
But my 12400F never gets over 70ºC, so I think I am fine.

Correct me if I'm wrong but apart from the 12th gen redesign of the stock intel cooler. Weren't they more or less just the same block of aluminum but with different mounting hardware?. Makes you wonder what the aftermarket coolers of early to mid 2000s would stack up today on these compact housewarmers.

I was recently comparing the one that i had on my i5 from 4th gen and i5 from 10th after upgrade. Despite looking simillar the old one had way more metal. Now they stripped it down even futher to cut costs.

Do you write the copy for your sponsor's ads? I can imagine them telling you, "As long as you say it's pretty and smells nice, say what you want."

How the hell do you sustain a sub 60F temp in your home? Windows open, fan on, snow blasting into the home, all the while running the A/C????
