- Seiken Densetsu 2: The game that went from a beautiful disaster to beautiful. I probably overstated the influence of some things, but that'll happen when you try doing a video on your all-time favorite game.
(Gah! forgot to note this in the credits but I used the elevator music from Dive Kick. Also, Wall Face actually can push you into the spikes, but that only seems to happen when the third eye is all that's left and it runs out of magic points to revive the other eyes.) - Hry
You’re right about Wall Face crushing you against the spikes. I triggered it once, it happened after closed by large eyes. I remember my heart rate severely increasing!
I just watched this video again while trying to cure the itch for similar games to this like Secret of Evermore, Terranigma and such classics. Most ones seem too bloated for my liking, especially with puzzles, even if they look fantastic (like Sea of Stars or Chained Echoes). Maybe I'll play Ara Fell again, that one was awesome as well.
Anyways, I still think this video is terrific! Thanks for making it. I have a strong feeling that this wasn't my last time watching. ;)
Seriously, I don't know how you don't have more subs. Thanks for the laughs and well put together video.
Quite possibly my favorite game of all time, and you do it such great justice with this video. I thought I knew everything there was to know about this game. After watching this, I realize that I was quite mistaken! Bravo, good sir!
dude, the only RPg game that you can play with the friend!
I always level my spells up as high as they can go, but I've never seen that shadow zero animation. Awesome!
By far a great and entertaining vid on one of my favorite rpg games! Secret of Mana introduced me to the rpg genre when it came out when I was little, and from there it was a non-stop rollercoaster with other Square titles. Didn't know the history of its development. Imagine if the rest of its contents weren't cut and *added* to Chrono Trigger. Love the passion you put into this vid :)
This is the best Seiken Densetsu 2 video on the internet. Thanks a million!
Ayyy its finally here! Keep up the good work!
Spikey Tiger is the reason why I got a game genie for my SNES
Yes i know this Video is old just wanted to say that i loved every second of it :)
I played these Games probably hundreds of Times :D SD 3 only with an Emulator and Fan Translation but still, i absolutely adore these Games ❤️
Thank you for making this Video :)
The wall does move but it's only if you taking too long to finish the fight. It's an instant kill if the wall pushes you into the spikes.
Bro its all in working order, the wall started moving, i ran out of mana & fairie walnuts & couldn't kill it in time before being spiked to death
I'm still so salty about the cut content that I've committed to writing my personal vision of it as a DnD campaign. Excellent video; I'm finally convinced somebody is as obsessed as I, haha!
Subbed once you did the boomerang around the world trick!!! 39:41 Thought I was the only one who knew about that for 20+ years!
Home adorned with video game posters and stickers. Wearing fingerless gloves indoors. Pronouncing mana as mah-na. The complete package.
your fucking gloves, dude. i'm not gonna lie...
All the naysaying is astounding to me. Secret of Mana is simply one of the best SNES games ever made!
He's back
Excellent, as well as entertaining
happy thanksgiving sxcr :O
First of all : f* great video. Not only you did a great job at maintenant a neutral stance about the pro and con on the game, but you did it with such a good way I laughed half of the time xD.
Just wanted to notice something (I just noticed it today while looking for sprites ressources), but aren't the "unused sprite of Randi's using magic" actually taken from Randi using the special attack of the glove? (need confirmation). When he use the "hadoken" like attack at the end of the Lv7 and Lv8 charge attack.
Either way, great video. The same goes for the episode about Gaiden/MysticQuest/Adventure/IforgotTheFourthTitle.
I'll gladly watch the next one o/
In the meantime... *flies away with the cannon*
I've played so many times since it came it out. I always get to the mana beast and stop playing, erase my game and put it away. I just can't bring myself to finish it.
those hobo gloves look ridiculous, friend
You mean you don't respect a ninja in real life?
My uncle beat this game without ever upgrading his armor, because he thought selecting it once applied it to each of the characters >.<
I still can't do it.
HOW? I did an experiment where I took off all the armour In the Pure Land and I was killed with one hit!
Gotta love that ad, where they actually say mana right... a huge difference from today, where no one is pronouncing it right lol.
Games like this makes it funny to me how people are like "Back in the day when you paid for a game you got the whole game."
While I never played this one (most of my experience with the Mana series was Sword and Legend, and I played a bit of Seiken Densetsu 3), I couldn't say this was a bad game and, really, it shows how good a functionally incomplete game can be (Xenogears, Soul Reaver, and Crash Twinsanity comes to mind). Still people act like selling incomplete games is a relatively recent thing. At least nowadays there's a chance that the game will be updated.
RippahRooJizah xenogears was phenomenal
What's more, game industry is much more larger than before in a way that the Entire Dev Team can't always finish the game on each of their part at the same time. And now that these Dev's have ways of uploading new contents post-release, they are working on dlc sometime even before the game is out. That's why some games have almost day one dlc, because the Map Designer team finished their job like a year before the rest of the team and you couldn't just possobly throw these members out while the others were finishing xD (that's just an exemple, I'm not saying it's always the case).
hey ! what is it about europe ?! xD you know what, we are more happy with getting terranigma wich never arrived you guys :p keep gaming my friend :)
I feel lucky to have gotten a SNES Classic. Also is let me guess. The next game is Final Fantasy Mystic Quest (I say this because Theretroreplay said Mystic Quest was part of the Seiken Densetsu series while talking about the development history of Chrono Trigger) (Edit. Scr sorry I admit this comment was dumb)
ffadventure (mystic quest) is seiken densetsu 1
What's with the gloves.......
Despite everything; The first snes SoM is the best overall. The sequel had nice ideas but felt less focussed and the playstation games were a completely different kind of game altogether.
I was playing this with my friends too lolololol
🎈
Dude you remind me so much of Ken Owen from Carcass.
I beat this game many times I was never able to get all d weapons orbs.
It's pronounced oon-deen, not un-dine. Also, certain spells will raise the level faster than others.
Does the multitap multiplayer work with the SNES Classic?
Nope. It is only for two players on the SNES classic.
You can do a workaround if you buy the Collection of Mana on the Switch with the joycons. Not sure if this is the case for other bluetooth controllers on Switch or on the PS4 version.
SOM = best rpg. Still.
Actually, I believe the american version only "confirms" Popoi being male in these two lines:
"He ate up ALL the ship's food!"
"'Zat your friend? Show him outta here!"
but that's not necessarily true. He and him is default speech and was, for a long time, the pronoun used for someone of unknown gender.
Heck, go back only 200 years and He and Him is not only correct in that situation- it's correct in any case. It was originally a gender-neutral term to begin with, just like how "man" is. *S*he and *Wo*man were actually words that ended up gendering the language.
aeh the wall boss closes in after a time? or do i missremember? :O
This is less of a review and more of a mockery of old games....
In what way? Also it's a retrospective, not a review.
The german pal versions translation was even worse! Luka's name was aquaria, dyluck=hagen, flammie=lufti (luft is german for air),sprite was a girl goblin, gnome=rocky and the other magics name were vesuvio frosty, elektra, nocturn, lunatic.you get it! Terrible and poor translation!!!
What's up with 5 dollar gaming?
Since I'm in a retrospective again, the schedule for the big videos goes like this:
Retrospective > SC On > Retrospective > 5DG > repeat
In other words, it's the next big one in the works.
scxcr oh I see. Thanks for the reply
RPGfan recently rated it 65/100, terrible review imo. Secret of Mana is amazing and above 90/100 to me.
I've always found it annoying that Secret of Mana was included on the SNES Classic. Yeah there are far worse options, but there's no way to do 3 player co-op on it! Personally I think it should have included Chrono Trigger instead.
damn this is cringe from the jokes to the outfit... wtf
Lmfao yeah the gloves......
Damn.... Those gloves are gay. Decent video.... But those fuckin gloves man. Why? It's like wearing a trenchcoat on a summer afternoon. Doesn't make any sense and it's cheesey looking.
" those gloves are gay"
Says "the noble dildo"...........
