  • Hello friends,
    Today, I show you how to clean a Minolta Rokkor 58mm f/1.2, a very good vintage lens with a very unique rendition. I got this copy for repair from the United States, first time I get a lens from there. The lens had several issues, oily aperture blades, helicoid needed regrease and a good optical cleaning, what we do here.

    Oh maaan, I did a repair on this lens myself a couple of months ago. Ran into new problems every move I made. It took me over 12 hours in total, this video would have helped me greatly if it had been online then 😂. In the end I got it done, only thing is that the focus throw is alot shorter than it used to be, but I cant figure out how to fix that 😭

      That's a pity. Got this from a guy in US, spend 4h to redo the lens anew. This is the last part of the restoration, I'll post the helicoid video in the future, otherwise you can access it thru the channel membership. Cheers.

    Have you ever put ball bearings back into a lens? I have a FD 85mm f1.2L that I need to do this too. But just trying to get a sense of this from anyone and any lens before I ever try to fix this wonderful lens.

      Hi, I did that once for a lens, and a few times for other mechanical stuff. The difficult part is to get the balls to hold in place. So, what you can do is to use a grease that is a bit sticky (lens grease should do), mix it with the balls, then with tweezers (non-magnetic ones) you can place the balls in position. The grease will make them hold and make them also lens bouncy. For the working surface, use a white cloth. Cheers.

      That is a genius idea. I will use the grease trick. Thanks so much man.

    Can anyone help me? Ive completely taken the diaphragma apart, thoroughly cleaning it. After a couple of weeks I started to see some oil again and now after half a year its completely stuck again. Where is this oil coming from??

    • @diyextravaganza
      @diyextravaganza  Před 4 měsíci

      It's the oil from the grease of the helicoid that is separating. Eventually the grease will loose all its oil, leaving you with only the soap. You'll need to disassemble, remove all grease, and re-grease. I have a video explaining that. Best.

      Oh dear, not looking forward to doing all that again, but I guess I have no choice. Where can I find that regreasing video?
