- Moving into our first house while pregnant went wrong very fast. We woke up to a voicemail that we missed the delivery of our furniture. Then our power went out, and then we realized we had no heat or water. What a day...

What I love about this is it’s not a “bragging” video about how great their house is. It’s more like a “Welcome to our home. Me casa is sú casa” vid. All the more reason to love Matt and Abby. Congrats to you two! 😊
I didn’t think about that until you said this but it makes such sense. The other videos I see you are so right it’s such a bragging type of thing but with them they are just excited to share with us. They are so sweet too I can’t imagine they would brag about anything. They are seriously the nicest people on this planet.

Exactly! I love seeing the process and everything. They are regular people and we get to enjoy this with them. That’s why I love watching them. You get to see what is possible and how they do it. I love that!

I laughed so hard that y’all were shocked the utilities turned off 😂😂 that’s definitely a good lesson to learn. When you buy a home you will most likely have to set up utilities on your own. Usually you would call a few days or weeks in advance and tell them your move-in date so that it isn’t turned on too early or too late.
Also - it’s pretty typical that water and electric are provided by two different companies. Y’all are learning a lot of good lessons early on haha!

Yes, I was also kind of surprised their realtor didn’t give them a move-in checklist. Most do that to help out their clients, since it is overwhelming for first-time homebuyers to know to do all those things. Hopefully their realtor will see this tip for their future clients, haha 😄

@@annaburdett9330 I’ve never heard of a realtor giving a checklist but that’s a great idea & would be a great way to get new clients cuz it’s awesome customer service! They have a huge family that they seem really close to & I’m really surprised that their family, especially their parents didn’t tell them about the utilities needing to be turned on in advance! I guess it’s a lot easier now days to find info out from Google or CZcams!🤷🏻♀️
@@lllelly316 I’m in Canada, but we’ve bought/sold four times in the last 10 years and I think every realtor we’ve had has given us a checklist in their moving package as part of their customer service 🙌. Even though we move lots it is always a nice touch, as your head is spinning with everything that needs to get done no matter how many times you do it, haha 🤣 I bet their family didn’t even think to mention it to them, but yes, it’s a super thoughtful and easy “value add” thing for realtors to do to help out their clients ☺️

Congratulations! That’s so frustrating with your utilities. The people that sold us our house gave me a list of all the companies/utilities I’d need to transfer to my name. I called a week ahead of time and gave them the turn on date. If I’m ever a seller I’ll def be doing this for the new home owners!

Advice from a realtor!! I’m sure yours told you, but another thing you should definitely do is CHANGE ALL THE LOCKS! Having a locksmith come to the house is inexpensive and it’s so important to change out the keys, because you never know who the old owner gave a key to, etc. there may also be other things you need to switch to your name besides utilities- like the security system service!

I'm impressed that Matt got that box spring put together in about an hours time. I just put the top bunk on my children's bunk bed together yesterday and it took ALL DAY. Had it set up as the bottom bunk being a bed by itself, but about time for my youngest to switch from toddler bed to big kid bed. Thought I would never get it done. Oh, and my only tool was an Allen wrench. I've got so many Allen wrenches from different furniture pieces and sets. Kids chairs, changing tables, crib, beds, and some toys.
I have commented on some of your past moving videos as we are closing on our first house this week. So we are just behind you guys. And I had to spend almost the entire day calling to set up utilities in our name today. It’s really hard to know what the heck you need to do for buying a new house. I am actually blogging the entire experience to help some people hopefully. You guys have helped me a lot

I’m so happy for you guys! Owning a home is so stressful but once you learn how to handle things it’s so rewarding and nice to not have to wait for a landlord or the apt to take care of things. You can do what you want with your house and not get in trouble for a nail in the wall lol. I hope everything is calmed down now! 😅

Hi! My husband and I experienced the same issue with the electricity and water when we moved into our home in September. We didn’t expect it either but it made sense. Where we live, we too have separate companies that take care of the utilities… So happy for you all and your lovely new home🥰

For the couch and the coffee table that you want, you could put that piece of the couch in the middle and then buy a tray looking thing to place on top. My mother in law has one and you can lay remotes and drinks onto that tray. It’s like a couch tray!! Super nice and just an idea!!!!💕 love you guys and so excited for you!

Ah to be in our 20's again! Fun times! Welcome to AZ! Phoenix area has been home to us for almost 22 years now since we came here for college! Crazy that you were in the Midwest when I started watching you in 2020 and now you could potentially live down the road from us! Every time we have ever moved, we had to set up all the utilites ahead of time to be turned on in our name on our move in date. So sorry you didn't know that! If you ever move out then you let the utilites know when they need to turn it off for your name/account.

We made the same mistake with our utilities when we bought our first house! Rentals they move it over but when you buy a house it’s not changed and the previous owners just shut it off. Wish that was a more commonly known thing. 😂 Love your guy’s new house!!

Everything looks great!! I love that sectional!! Ashley Furniture should be sponsoring your content!! 😊Utilities are usually separate in houses compared to apartments. We get a water/garbage bill, electric bill, gas bill, and cable stuff. I remember that being a surprise to us for our first house too. We luckily didn't have company coming though.

Utilities are so different county to county, not even state to state really. Some counties do all of the utilities together, others are all separate. When you buy a house, you are supposed to set up utilities ahead of time, shoot even when you rent you have to set up electricity in a lot of places. Lots of lessons learned this vlog! 😬 the house is really coming together, so happy for you guys!
