  • A customer brought me his Husqvarna 120i battery powered chainsaw complaining that it will only run a few seconds and then stop and display the error symbol. Lets fix it! #smallenginerepair

    Thanks So much for sharing this.... I've got the same saw and this morning, got the red flashing triangle! I found your video and saw how to take everything apart... I tested the switch and it works properly, but the spring on the handle that is supposed to push against the switch wasn't holding in place properly. The plastic post that holds the spring had worn and let the spring slip to the side. I found a nail that would fit inside the hollow plastic post, cut the nail just slightly longer than the post, and jb welded it in place. The head of the nail will keep the spring from ever slipping again. Got everything back together and it works perfectly! Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

    Thanks for the video. Mine just started doing this. I have had 2 batteries fail, covered by warranty. The connector that interfaces with battery popped out of place with dangling leads when removing the battery to charge it. Brought it in to dealer and they gave me a new chain saw. It's OK when it works but 3 trips to the dealer in 2 years is a bit too much & now i have to remove the switch & go to the dealer. Time for a 2 cycle Stihl. Thanks again.

    I must have missed the part where you checked the cylinder for scoring...do you have the tape on the drive bit to see if your driver is moving the screw? Just curious.

      @TheGreasyShopRag  Před 11 měsíci +3

      I checked the cylinder right after looking in the fuel tank 🙂At one point all my 6" bits were the same color/style. Putting a piece of tape on the t20 just helped identify it and save time.

    if i took that to the shop near me they would have told me to get a new saw

      Because its battery powered and they are affraid to work on it? Its easier to work on. Its like back in the day when everything used points and condensors. Now young techs have no idea what that means. Some day there will be old techs that get fed all the canned fuel repairs because young techs won't know what an internal combustion engine is.

      @@TheGreasyShopRag no theyre just old fashioned crooks

      @@Cogmonkay They may be crooks but not smart ones. There is a lot more money to be made in repairs than new saw sales.

    That was a good fix….no matter what some in the bleachers have to say. Just wondering if it was a warranty item or not?

      Thanks. No, This saw was out of warranty but this type of repair would have been covered.

    Do you find the electrical or wear items go bad first/more often?

      Switches, by far, are the most replaced component.

      Right now I'd describe most battery equipment as "handy" at best. All they really need is some major battery breakthrough. Kinda like the jump we saw from nicad to lithium.

      @@TheGreasyShopRag Right, but I liken it to what the EV's did to California's electrical grid, where broader adoption put increased strain on the grid, and caused rolling blackouts and restrictions on what days of the week you were permitted to charge your cars. Granted a handheld tool would require a great deal less energy to recharge, but it still adds to the demands placed on the grid...

    • @TheGreasyShopRag

      @@albertkropp Agreed. The power grid simply won't allow for the conversion to all electric vehicles.

    i can tell this, he has no idea about how to fix it. why cause hes not electrician, your take it to electric appliance repairs not to gas powered repair shop. Or better to people who fix loptops. Its simple thing. even by looking at his table first thing he should have is multimeter. For gas powered tools bring to him, but not electric

    • @TheGreasyShopRag
      @TheGreasyShopRag  Před 11 měsíci +6

      How can you claim I have no idea how to fix it when you just watched me fix it. The problem was the first thing I looked at. This isn't a staged video. This was the actual repair performed at a Husqvarna dealership. The switch is mechanically actuated so why would I put a multimeter on the bench before I determine if its actually being activated? Even after determining the switch was being activated, testing a component with an intermittent problem is sketchy at best. I eliminated the switch from the equation and sure enough the switch was the problem. Logic.
