Mallikarjun Mansur A Video Documentary

A documentary (in English) about the life of Pt. Mallikarjun Mansur (1910-1992), great Khyal vocalist of Jaipur Atrauli Gharana. He was a disciple of Sri Manji Khan & Sri Bhurji Khan (sons of Ut. Alladiya Khan, founder of Jaipur Atrauli Gharana). Many thanks to Sri Vinay Swarup Pande for sharing this video with us.

This documentary was produced by our dear friend Prajna Paramita Parashar. I was lucky Prajna involved me in the production as a young gopher -- I was a teenager then. The morning concert in the second half of the documentary was recorded at the NCPA, Nariman Point, Bombay- in the lobby of what is now called the Experimental Theatre there. In the audience you can see an invited audience of Mallikarjun Mansur's friends and admirers, including Kishori Amonkar. The scenes by the seaside were filmed on the golf course at the United Services Club (in the Military Area in Bombay) where I used to be a member in those days. I remember we had to get special permission from the Defense Deptt to film there . I got to spend a fair bit of time with Pandit Mallikarjun Mansur then. He was a wonderful human being. I recall being impressed by his childlike innocence and good nature.
