How to Write an Essay - Basic Essay Structure in 3 Minutes

This instructional video was created for an English Composition course at Full Sail University. If you're a new student entering any college or university for the first time, or returning to school after a long absence, this video should help you adopt a proper organizational essay structure.

Great video and very helpful but I know that many will disagree with the point you've made in the conclusion; to 'add a new piece of info' (to get the reader thinking). This is usually frowned upon as you're introducing a new point that you could potentially talk about but haven't, in which case you'll usually be told that you were best off including this point in the main bulk of your essay or leaving it out altogether and not even putting it anywhere near your conclusion.
rkm424 Alex Le Roux The idea behind my thinking is, as Alex pointed out, to leave the reader intrigued and inspired to want to seek more information. Once we make our case in an essay, which is usually short and contained to only several points of any given topic, the conclusion usually ends the discussion there. But there is still so much more that can be said about any given topic. Therefore, the reason it's a good idea to add a new piece of info is to send your reader on a quest to dig deeper into the subject. The last thing we want to do in a conclusion is to simply restate the intro, word for word. By adding something new, we are in essence asking the reader, "Now that you have all this information, what will you do with it?" This is basically a call to action for our readers. It is a way to engage them further, not only in your contained piece of writing, but in the topic more generally. The easy way would be to conclude an essay by restating the intro. The more interesting way, in my opinion, is to get your audience more involved in the subject; to send them on a sort of quest for more.

YES YES AND YES thanks for making this video this helped me a lot I think I'm ready for the test tomorrow. Now I don't have to worry anymore in 6th grade my teacher did not tell those things I guess it's still the same way just like 5th grade. In 5th grade my teachers did it well I just wanted to know if anything had change because the teachers I have for reading they did not say anything about conclusion or reasoning.
