Very well done. I grew up in Llantwit Major (now live in US) but remember my dad telling us about this awful disaster.

As an avid explorer of former WW2 airfields, I have just explored the remains of RAF Llandow and in the course of my research this tragic event came to my attention. Thank you for your excellent presentation of the facts.

Many thanks for watching this. RAF Llandow is quite an uncelebrated and often overlooked airfield so I'm really glad you found interest there too. Diolch!

Thank you for a simple film, my uncle was Andrew Graham who was the flight Engineer and also an experienced pilot, one of the 5 crew whom were all highly experienced former RAF Flightcrew

Thank you for watching this. What a loss it must have been for your family at the time, and even now. I appreciate the comment.

Wonderful video, a family member of mine was on the flight and we still have newspaper clippings and the news report on vhs.

Thank you for watching this. Which family member was yours? What a tragedy and something that will stay with me for a long time.

  • @johnsharpTravelandAviation.

Another excellent film Chris. The story was sympathetically told and I learnt about an event I had never heard of until now.

I was fifteen at the time of the crash and remember the sense of shock felt throughout South Wales.

Excellent video. The story is thoroughly covered and sensitively told. A sad tale, but an important one.

I know the area well having spent many of my early years at RAF St Athan. We moved there not long after the air disaster so it was still very uppermost in people's minds. I expect some of the search party we see in the film were from Saints.
The only upside of the disaster is that the pilot managed to guide it down avoiding homes. Such a terrible tragedy though. May they all be resting in eternal peace.

I love all your videos on interesting points about south wales history.
Do you know if there is any remains of the plane or belongings on the plane in something like a museum?

Thanks so much, Robert - I appreciate that! I didn't manage to find any info on what happened to the plane although someone did send me an image of a small part they found in the field it crashed in recently.

Excellent video Chris. I had heard of it when someone else posted on the Glamorgan History FB group. However, your video covered so much more and in a sensitive and respectful way.

Well done. What a sensitive treatment to a crash I had never heard of before.
A pity that CZcams/Google didn't think to treat the subject with equal sensitivity - they still interrupted the video with unwanted adverts - shame on you CZcams.

@Chris Lloyd you should change "became the world's worst air disaster" --> "became the world's worst air disaster at the time". The statement is misleading.

    • @whatchrisdoes
      @whatchrisdoes  Před 2 lety +4

It did become the world’s worst air disaster which I then elaborate on halfway through the film, establishing that this title was then redundant and surpassed due to further tragedy’s.
