The differences between the two are mental because Ed’s are mental illnesses. What makes them different is someone’s relationship with food and with weight. It’s also not about physical health because crash diets are unhealthy as well and Ed’s can sometimes have horrible health consequences but thats not a requirement what they do all share in common is the horrible mental consequences

We got told the usual eat less sugar move more as far as health went and received petty much no information about eating disorders beyond the stereotypes in media. I think particularly conferring the rise in ed's in the uk in the last year even there should be some education on what an unhealthy relationship with food can look like warning signs of this and sustainable nutrition advice so the many teenagers who may fall into ed's due to a decision to get fit can avoid them.

      @ThumpRat Pƙed rokem +3

      @@isabellag2371 Beyond overeating, eating disorders are largely social contagions among teenagers. There was a story about how in Hong Kong, a popular girls magazine wrote about an American girl suffering from bulimia. Within months, suddenly there was an epidemic of young girls with rapid onset eating disorders. The over-pathologising of the human condition has undoubtedly been a negative for society, there should be sensible advice on nutrition for kids but spreading 'awareness' about mental health and eating disorders just leads to more sick kids.

    • @isabellag2371
      @isabellag2371 Pƙed rokem +2

      @@ThumpRat I personally feel lack of education on healthy eating and healthy weight loss was defiantly what lead me and others I knew as a teenager down a rabbit hole of “advice” which was disordered and confusion. I understand your point that education on eating disorders is a different thing and I agree that sometimes “education” particularly accounts from people who had a eating disorder can just end up inspiring more of them and providing “tools” to further them but I also know that if my future self had told my younger self a bit about just how harmful and ineffective my disordered eating would be I would never have done that because while I knew what I was getting into was an Ed to begin with however I thought that the single consequence would be not getting to eat the food I enjoyed. It obviously a delicate and upsetting subject but they are rising rapidly romanticised and I think that teens need to be aware of the horrible reality of them

    • @koo44m
      @koo44m Pƙed rokem +1

      @@ThumpRat i really think that depends on the 'awareness' - obviously it shouldn't be put as simply as "oh x wanted to lose weight quick and this is what they did but it's bad don't do that" with no further explanation, but i feel like in particular with eating disorders more people need to know how damaging it can be, like the heart damage and overall organ damage it can cause, the brain fog and memory deterioriation, osteoporosis, the side effects like hair growth in weird places, tooth decay etc. if people knew more about the horrible lasting effects it can leave, i feel like that awareness would definitely lead to less people trying to copy what they're told about. the thing is with some people, even if you tell them how bad it is, they'll still do it anyway but that's not an issue with spreading awareness, that's people who are already sick, but sadly you can't avoid that.

    It’s been over a year since this video was released, but CZcams recommends must’ve been looking out for me. I’ve been struggling with my health/weight loss balance since high school, and now I’m finally at a comfortable and progressive place. Not afraid of full fat, high protein, or carbohydrates. Recently though I feel like I’m resorting back to bad habits because I’ve become impatient and unsatisfied with the speed of my journey. I want it to be like magic. So this video was an amazing wake-up-call. I can really see my past self here, and it’s frightful. I really appreciate you, Will. I don’t want to go back to starving myself and stepping on the scale like every time I do an angel gets it’s wings or something. I’m going to try to look at it in a larger scale like you said: monthly, yearly even!

    Ages 19-22 I had a severe eating disorder. I went from 10 stone to 7 stone in 3 months (bare in mind in 5ft 8) and I worked out 4 hours a day at the gym, was on my feet for 10 hours a day at work then I would walk 4 miles home every. Single. Day. Not to mention I was terrified of food. I felt so much hatred and so disgusting every time I ate. Man I hated my life so much then I’m so so glad I’m out of that phase of my life. I’m 30 now with 2 kids and I could never imagine them treating their body that way

    Really needed this today. So glad I found your channel. A weight loss 'journey' is such a weird thing for me now in my late 30s, as my teens were made up of as little food as I could eat / get away with no one noticing. Doing a 48 hour fast that I kind of 'fell' into, and it brings back a lot of those reminders / feelings. I've been on a medically-recommended 800 calorie a day Huel diet 5 days a week for 11 weeks. I'm below 180lb for the first time in a decade, but I can so easily fall into the mindset of "not enough, not enough". Interestingly, I had a similar story, but in my late 30's. I restricted calories and ran. I ran my arse off and over a course of a year and a half I lost 140lb. For 5yrs I ran on avg 8 miles a day. While I did add strength training two days a week I didn't focus as much on strength as I should have. I also got lazy on my diet because I was burning so many calories from running that I let running be the dictator on how much I eat. Sadly, I tore my Achillies and also hurt my lower back in a strength training incident that drastically reduced my ability to work out. My diet was so bad and along with age now a year shy of 50 I am back up 80lb and struggling.
    Looking back I wish I talked to a nutritionist and hired a coach to help me with a lifestyle change and guide me on how to properly work out. I am doing that now, but I wish I did it earlier.

I wouldn't even eat carrots because they had too much sugar. I then passed out after one drink at a party because I hadn't eaten, and went on a spiral and very quickly gained all the weight back. You inspire me everyday to go to the gym and keep up the lifting. I have managed to increase my reps and weight so much and reflecting on my progress just makes me excited for what’s to come! Thank you for being the best inspiration, your videos are amazing đŸ„ł

    Completely hooked on your videos and binged a dozen in a row after them being recommended several weeks ago. Even with not being interested in fitness, your personality is amazing and entertaining. The low key, witty, tounge in cheek jokes you throw out remind me of Bo Burnham. Thank you for being a humble inspiration for others who need it.

    I’ve lost 62 lbs in 15 months largely in part to your videos and your inspiration. I’m thankful that you teach others the healthy way to take care of themselves. So close to my goal weight! Thanks for all you do Will.

    Dude, you're just like how I was in high school. Unfortunately I gained and lost the weight 4 times already, 31 and the stress of carrying for my first child and 3 sleeplessn years brought me in a +40 kg spiral.
    I got back in the gym, and the low carb diet just drains me of energy and gets me depressed. Thanks for making me accept carbs as part of my diet. Great videos by the way.

    I love this dude. He’s so funny, very humble, knowledgeable and entertaining to watch. Does he have a video on strictly weight loss? For the ladies?

    I’m coming out of pretty bad sickness and I’ve noticed my body image have started deteriorating as a result. I still can’t do intense exercise or see anyone without risking getting sick again (doctor’s orders
) and it’s frustrating not being happy with my body but not being able to safely get back into routine. I especially appreciate Will’s openness around healthy weight loss and body image right now, helped me refocus on what I can do in the here and now to better my position.
