Great video again Chris, thank you for this. Looking back at the 70's in both EU and US, I would have expected to see "Pierre Cardin Pour Monsieur" in this list. Oh well...
Derrick intrigues me very much, the fragrances you review are ones I've never heard of and I was born in 67, I'm going to wear denim today cos its the only one I got. 3 I love from the 70s is pierre cardin pour homme, paco rabanne pour homme and azzaro pour homme. I found you through Mr smelly and I have been enjoying your channel.
Great stuff Chris! From that list I have Givenchy Gentleman, Lagerfeld and YSL PH all of which I love.. will definitely have to try those others that are still available esp Equipage. Cheers
I really appreciate the time and research you put into your reviews. IMO, you really bring those iconic fragrances back to life. I see you are rocky a paisley tie also, nice 70'-80's touch.
Excellent reviews, my man. I bought the Irisch Moos because of the review you performed. Love the scent! I haven't tried but 2 of the fragrances you've highlighted here. One being the Jovan Sex Appeal. You should issue a warning with that one. I wound up getting married TWICE because of it...Haha! From Denver, Colorado, USA

My uncle in Germany used to wear an aftershave in the late 70s and early 80s, it was very fruitful and very fresh in the mornings it used to fill the house with its scent, do you know what one it could be many thanks
I'm not sure how the seventies and eighties are discussed in the fragrance community without mention of Polo original. I know it has been reformulated, yet, I continue to get many compliments from women of all ages. It still works fellas!
Hey Randall, yes of course Polo is essential to the 70's but this was aboit my top 10 of that decade and since I dont like Polo I didnt include it in here:)
the aramis and givenchy are awesome, classy elegant imo, dressing up and putting on Givenchy Gentlemen is just too cool... they knew what to do in the earlier days...good looking out, i like your style
Wait... So is the 1974 Givenchy Gentleman part of today's Gentleman line - the line with Boisee, Reserve Privee, etc? Was it just the progenitor of the others?
Dear Chris, With all due respect in the world Chris, I wished and prayed that you’d include Paco Rabanne Pour Homme. Disappointed I am, but, you are Chris from the land of scent!Respect. I was born in 1981 and this fragrance ruled in my home along with Aramis and Givenchy Gentleman. Compared to the abysmal male fragrances today, Paco Rabanne pour homme in my opinion, is a benchmark aromatic fougere. All my love and the best to you brother. Forza Milan (AC Milan) Renoy
Very good. I have never used Jovan sex appeal, it is difficult to get in Mexico, but I got one bottle., I will try it.. . I got Denim aftershave, I like it very much, it is very shiny, clean and fresh, bright so to speak. Greetings from Mexico.
It's a great list. My list would exclude Jovan Sex Appeal and Alain Delon (released over here in 1980) and in their place would be Gucci Pour Homme (1976) and Ted Lapidus Pour Homme (1978).
Very enjoyable vid but where's BRUT by faberge? Or did that come out in the 60s? I was born in 1969 and Brut reminds me of Christmas when presents were seasonal boxes of "smellies" among my cousins and uncles. Nuclear strength in those days. I still use it as the splash type is cheap enough to throw around everywhere and puts me in the best mood. Squeaky clean
Scent Land I don't get why it wasn't included in your dozen. Though I might try Derrick on your recommendation. Recently I've bought Gucci guilty absolute. I tested around 20 latest scents in store in order to treat myself. Nothing came close and I paid full retail of £70. Naturally I turned to eBay for "unwanted present" backups at half the price. I never got on with Dior Fahrenheit for some reason, perhaps it tried to be too much alpha male. And this Gucci (I've never bought a Gucci since 2001) is not so much petrol and mechanic, this one is the scent of guns and oil. I love when ingredients are combined to make a real replica. That's the genius of perfumery. Don't give me just vetiver or honey or leather or lavender give me an emotion. Agree? I left a review of fendi uomo on fragrantica you might like to read. User 'beavisbonce' take care Chris and keep up the good work
Brut was introduced by Faberge in 1964 and in 1968 they released a Brut 33 line which was much weaker than the original juice. Faberge sold to Helen of Troy/Idelle Labs in the USA and Unilever for Europe who still issues it in glass bottles. There's one 25.6 oz. glass gift bottle of Brut made in the USA that's a pretty strong cologne. In Europe. Unilever added a Brut musk aftershave and edt along with other versions. There was a great Brut Dominant aftershave that was recently discontinued here in the USA by Helen of Troy. If you can get your hands on it, it's a very nice fragrance.
Hi Chris, have you changed your opinion on Paco Rabanne Pour Homme? In this video you say that you don't like it so much but in more resent videos you choose it as on of the best PR fragrances and even have it among your all time favorites on fragrantica. I'm curious on what made you change your mind so drastically and going from "not liking that much to an all time favorite"? Best regards.
Very good critical point! Well, the reasons might be: when I used it in 2000, I was only 28, not ready for the juice yet and I used it at a time when life wasnt at its best. Iam more mature to wear it now. Also, as I state in my Top 3 Paco list, the formula has become more user friendly. So the combination of the two factors made me start to really love the fragrance by now. Love your comment! Cheers
I figured it was something along those lines. I've had the same experience with the original Denim aftershave. When I first tried it I was 18 years old and didn't like it at all. Now, 15 years later, I love both the smell and the great confident feeling I get by using it. Thanks for clearing this out and I'm really happy that you enjoy PRPH as it is my all time favorite cologne and you're my all time favorite reviewer. I hope you enjoy life Chris, the wife, the kids and amazing time of spring. Take care my friend, and thanks for taking the time to answer my question. Sniff you later.
How could you leave out one of my all time favorites, 1978's Azzaor Pour Homme? It's considered one of the all time best! That and the one mentioned below gave me some of the greatest female compliments I've ever received. I picked up the Denim Original aftershave along with Denim Black and Denim Fire here in the USA for about $2.99 per bottle a few years ago. What a bargain! I only recently discovered Lagerfeld Classic and I don't know why since I was wearing Lagerfeld Photo in 1990. I'm not sure why since I really go for the sandalwood scents. Maybe it was because in the 1980's I was too much into Chanel Pour Monsieur, Pierre Cardin Musk (my favorite musk of all time), Calvin Klein's Obsession, Polo Green and the next scent you've left out.... Paul Sebastian for men (released in 1979). It's sometimes called Old Spice on steroids. To this day it's still strong although it was sold to EA Fragrances. Paul Sebastian also released another great one called VSOP that's discontinued. Along with Azzaro, I got the most compliments from Paul Sebastian. Any reason you left out Polo Green or you felt the 10 you chose were just simply better?
Thanks for the great feedback! My aim was to present the top ten according to my taste (hence the title of the review). I could never wear Polo nor Azzarro and therefore although these are great milestones of that decade, I did not include them here. Cheers
Why can't you wear Azzaro? It's a classic! I also was amazed it was left out. I can still recall an absolutely gorgeous receptionist in 1982 almost breathlessly asking me what I was wearing. Those moments remain frozen in one's memory.
Thank you very much. APH was certainly a milestone of the 70's but I dont like it that much and thats why it didnt make the list. Hence the title MY top 10...

Lagerfeld Classic is indeed a highlight of that decade!!!
really great list , some favorites on there , i got Derrick based on your review , i really enjoy it ,and its so affordable !!!
Oh, happy to hear that Matt!!
I wore Lagerfeld a lot in the 80s and still have a half full bottle. Wife and daughter hate it; I love it, lol.
Love this series! Would be great if you could do one on the 1960s!
yes, I agree but my stock of 60s frags is way too limited to attempt a proper review
I really appreciate the time and research you put into your reviews. IMO, you really bring those iconic fragrances back to life. I see you are rocky a paisley tie also, nice 70'-80's touch.
Hey Carl, yes I try my best:))
I don't have a lot of favorites from the 70s, but I do really enjoy Arramis Devin, Halson Z14 and Halson 1-12. Well-done!
Thanks Jim!
