- Geoff starts the 1922 50hp single cylinder Mirrlees engine, the engine was originally at John Moores Liverpool University.
It suffered a small end bolt failure in May 1998 that damaged the liner, con rod and piston, the engine was then given to the Anson Engine Museum where it was put into store.
When we built the Cris Bowden building the engine was installed and rebuilt with replacement parts the Anson held.
The engine is started. On compressed air and once turning diesel oil is injected until it fires hence the change in exhaust colour.

Excellent 👍 Gretta would love it 😂 Good job all involved 👍👍
I'm helping some other guys with trying to get one of these engines running, we've just finished the cooling and hopefully it should be running soon. Good work guys.
Wonderfull, wish I lived closer I'd volunteer
I never imagined I'd see one of those running, what a fantastic job you've done there.
Amazing result from amazing team well done
Brilliant I would be over joyed with that nice machine
Nice rescue, but did it ever govern??? It sounded good once it was going, but I kept thinking 'stop tickling it, just let it go' during the startup.
Yes it runs on the governor now, we had to put a softer spring in to make the engine run slower.
Blimey it’s just an engine give it full fuel you bloke
