- Today we bring out some of the Winchester Longbeard XR 12ga 3" 1-3/4oz 4s and put them to the test at 40 yards through an old Mossberg 500A with a 30" fixed full choke barrel. We definitely saw some pretty interesting results from this combo, so stick around and see how it performs!

Shoutout to the Blue Collar Outdoors guys for the idea and design of the target backers
It was me I suggested this test. It's my dad's old gun he bought it new in the 70's
Yep, thanks for the suggestion! Did it perform about like his does?
@@matttyreeoutdoors his is about like tht with the super x . The long beard was better. It made my buddy's stock 835 look bad
@@matttyreeoutdoors his with the 28 inch modified barrel shoot 2 3/4 oo buck pretty good.
hell yeah man
Definitely looked pretty decent considering what it is
No worries with that pattern.
Im still hunting with my old Mossberg 835 i bought at Walmart 20+ years ago for a little over $200
Many a turkey r.i.p 🙏🦃
The old setups can still get it done just fine as long as you have a decent shell and keep yourself within the right ranges
I swear they need to come out with a 2-3/4 inch shell around 1.5 oz. Would be an awesome option for old guns that don’t have magnum chambers and also wouldn’t beat the crap out of you like the magnum loads do
Herter's does have the 2-3/4 1.5oz TSS load, but some older setups might not be able to handle TSS. I know there was once a Longbeard 2-3/4 1-1/4oz shell, but I don't know if they still make that version or not. I'll have to do some digging around and see if I can come up with something like that to test
The pattern is a little blotchy but that’s impressive for an old-school gun with A fixed choke! I might have to buy the two and three-quarter version and try it in my old Ithaca deer slayer.
It wasn't perfect compared to a modern setup, but it's still plenty good enough. I'd like to track down some of the LB 2-3/4 shells to test as well
@@matttyreeoutdoors I used some 2 3/4” #4 Winchesters about 3/4 years ago because it was the only ammo I could find. Did really good with the .655 mobile tite wad choke. Never tried long beards yet.
I’d like to see that shot with#5 or #6 LBXR. I’d also like to see that setup shot W/ The Herter’s TSS Loads. I bet that would be POISON ☠️
Yep, we are definitely gonna test it with a bunch more loads, so we'll see how it does
You got to believe me the barrels actually too long it's starting to slow down
Yes, that could be a possibility, but I doubt it based on other tests we've done where we saw higher than box posted velocities
Man dude take a breath
