My grandmother drives 2001 Lexus that has both a CD changer and a cassette player.
What angers me is that car manufacturers consider music CDs outdated, yet CDs are still sold in stores everywhere!
Exactly it's bs they don't have to make all modles with the ability atleast one from every manufactire would work in all there line ups. I want a 12 in stereo with dvd and cd but none have them it sucks
trying to compensate generation alpha technology which makes no sense when every other generation before is here and will be for a while. Dumb!
I still buy CDs because I always try to support my favorite artists.
Car manufacturers think all drivers are young... we still lovers cd players... music you never find online. Or waste time searching yet you hv them on cds.
I’m 67 and streaming is way better than anything I ever had, radio , cassettes , cds etc. Streaming is limitless. You have millions of selections to choose from.
I am so choked that newer cars don’t have a CD player. Till I read these remarks, I thought I was the only one totally upset about it.
I had last model year for cd player in cadillac! Im so upset! You pay big bucks for new shiny moving tin and NO CD Player??? Unless you want an Acura or Lexus (but not everyone has post-pandemic cash to spend foolishly)🤷♀️
I feel you're pain bro 😢
You are not alone
You really are not alone!!! I wish they had a CD player!!!
It would probably cost the car manufacturers about $20 per car to include a CD player. But the bean counters say to heck with the consumer, we gotta save every buck we can. Cheap.
No, they just want you to add it on as an accessory. That's where they make the big money, along with their service department.
Or to offer it as something to add- but they only want to add fancy new things not stuff for people who actually drive a lot
@@narq5099 um, that's exactly what he just said
Probably less. A cheapo Jensen disc man at Target costs like $20. With the thousands of cars produced a year with ultra expensive technology in each, the car companies are barely losing anything to add a CD player.
I would rather have only a basic radio with a CD player than with all this technology for an automobile. As a driver of a vehicle and with myself being by myself for a majority of the time while driving, I don't need all this technology stuff, especially since I am driving. All these new gadgets with this technology are more distractions for a driver and I can see why more and more accidents are happening these days with this smartphone technology and this new Infotainment systems in today's new vehicles. Too much technology for your entertainment while driving seriously increases your chances of getting in a serious accident. Just give me a basic radio with a CD player. I just put the CD in before I drive away and I am good to go when I travel back and forth to work. These fancy gadgets like a smartphone, I save for when I am not driving and use when I am on a break at work or at home or whatever. For driving hell no! If I did I would probably have been in a car accident by now and I know other idiots are using this stuff while driving so I have to be on the defensive all the time while driving even with myself enjoying listening to my CDs. Most drivers are way too multitasking with this technology to entertain themselves while driving.
Amen. I was thinking this the other day how it makes an accident more plausible and likely.
Agree! It's distracting just to sort through a playlist for the best song while driving, so much simpler to pick a good CD instead. And this was a basic car without much of an infotainment system. Give me my CDs and a stick shift, thank you very much.
Totally agree! now we are not able to listen the music we like without listening commercials or you should pay for Pandora…
Yep- and some entertainment systems like Ford F150 series had a CD/MP3 disc player that sounds "high end" even with low bitrate mp3 files burned to disc
Exactly. This is also why I will never get rid of my 2010 Toyota. I am perfectly fine with my CD player with AUX *shrug
It’s absolutely unforgiving that Mercedes stopped putting cd players in their cars. And I feel like Im the only one complaining, no one misses it. Im not even an old nostalgic man Im 29.
It seems very few cars have CD players now. I don't see why though. I mean yeah, sure streaming is nice. But they should at least keep CD as an option. I don't see what's so "old fashioned" about them. I find them simple and easy to use.
I feel your pain! I am angry they removed CD players from cars in 2016. What a stupid idea. Who has time to download all their CD's? Plus, you can't trade with your friends.
@@Exorid I agree as well
Absolutely ridiculous that they took that choice away! Spend so much to upgrade car & lost CD played on my Pilot! C'mon Honda, charge a fortune & take this away.... Make me nuts!!!

To rip a CD on laptop (with a CD) takes about 10 mins per CD.
Then simply convert them to MP3 format at 128 bit.
Now copy to USB pen drive and play using that.
I feel frustrated why car manufactures have removed CD. But its probably because of moving parts which can go wrong.
Whereas digital has no circular moving motors!
Its like the headphone jack removed from mobile phone.
Apple removed it and now Samsung have followed.
They want everyone to use wireless Bluetooth!
The technology is completely and utterly pants! They just don't give a damn for quality anymore. Anybody who thinks that a smart phone produces quality audio are criminally insane!
Peter Mitchell what a dumb opinion. CD and digital formats are literally the same thing. Vinyl is the only thing that is different in quality.
That's why the new technology is better. Free music, and better audio
Not to mention CDs are best for long car trips and I don't want to worry about my phone battery being at 50% if I break down in the middle of Nebraska... Even with this you can't have multiple CDs loaded
Arrest those felons 😡
Blame Millennials for being short-sighted and stupid. Ask me how I know
Thank you! I still love cd’s. I never even owned an iPod and I don’t like using my phone to listen to music in my car because it sounds...weird. Showing my age, I actually still love cassette tapes
YUP!
You are absolutely right
Streaming music degrades the audio quality so much and most people never even know what they are missing. I REFUSE to use streaming services for my music, tv or movies. Use physical media and you own it for life.
@@dathorndike4908 yes!
@@dathorndike4908 I agree more than 100%!! True music lovers still collect lp's and cd's. Those using streaming devices don't really know or care about good sound quality. They only listen to mostly pop dreck and current hits. Music to them is only background noise while doing other activities. They don't know or appreciate the sound of live instruments and the musicianship of the performers. This is the two minute attention span generation that are used to disposables and mass marketable items. No streaming devices I heard can come close to a high end cd player or turntable!
I'm 24, I started collecting CD's in my teens because, although they _started_ losing popularity then, they also _started_ becoming dirt cheap! I've probably got around a couple hundred as of now, and I keep every one of em in reach of my car stereo obviously.
I think it's really only a matter of time before CD's (as well as DVD's) become completely obscure, antiquated relics of the past. The most optimistic outlook is that they'll wind up like vinyl records; with an increasingly small cult fanbase who still remember, produce, preserve, and appreciate them.
That's actually pretty shitty.
We already see it happening en masse with literally EVERY form of popular media today. Fewer and fewer albums/titles/shows/games etc. are released in physical form anymore. The majority of those that still do come out are slimmed down husks of what they used to be ... and half of _THOSE_ are just a box holding a piece of paper telling you to download it anyway, THE OLE SWITCHEROO!! And now obviously we're starting to see CD players disappear from newer cars.
The reason this is upsetting goes beyond a collection or a hobby, it's about ownership, man.
When you buy media you're really just buying a license to use/view it, and that license can be revoked by the copyright holder at any time for any reason. Fun fact, you're technically not allowed to lend that media to someone because YOU are licensed to view that media. Luckily, even if you lose the license to something you physically own, nobody can legally take that item away from you; you'd _technically_ be barred from using it, but this is never actually enforced in this context, and you'd still possess your copy. If you decide to lend your neighbor your Metallica CD, the publisher isn't going to find out, nor stop you.
Contrarily, there's nothing to stop a copyright holder from revoking your license to digital media that you _literally can not legally access_ without said license -- which they are virtually always legally allowed to do since *they* own the rights and *you* signed a license agreement -- and that's it, poof, gone, you've got no recourse for compensation.
You can't let your neighbor borrow your digital Metallica album because it's tied to YOUR account, maybe even your device. If you make copies to send them, well that's piracy, and Big Brother is always watching. Remember Napster? 😉
Even worse, as has been the case with a lot of always-online games, if a piece of media *only* exists digitally, and the ©holder one day says "eh... Feck it, let's shut this down," nobody can EVER enjoy that media again unless one of the license holders backed it up ... and the kicker is, if that backup exists, it's *illegal!* That's piracy, thief!
It doesn't matter if the user paid good money for their license, they no longer have the right to enjoy something they purchased access to, and if they continue to enjoy it they are, in fact, stealing.
Neither does it matter if the game was originally free, got deleted, and the person redistributing it after isn't even charging money for it!
_they just don't want you to have it_
*cough PT cough*
And of course, it's all for the love of $$$.
Digital-only media is *far* cheaper to produce and distribute than physical releases,
sometimes sells for close to (if not the same) price as physical media,
can have its support dropped as quickly as it came which means the creators no longer have to work on it or pay upkeep while you no longer have art to enjoy,
and can just str8up be taken away from you, arbitrarily justified only by TOS that you yourself agreed to.
Digital media is obviously convenient, it absolutely has a place in our culture, but when it comes to ownership, physical is the way to go. The implications of eradicating it entirely are almost dystopian
Bravo. There wasn’t one lie in this whole comment.
@@MKULTRA_Victim_ 2 years later we finally have a movement to at least try and fight against this happening with videogames, specifically revocation of digital rights just because the devs feel like it.

Many people STILL have huge CD collections and are not going to throw them away for these new streaming services. The problem with buying an external player like this one is that one doesn't know how it will sound in the vehicle. Will it sound like the CD or will it sound like compressed streaming music?
