FULL FISH ROOM TOUR: czcams.com/video/Vw9xoArt95A/video.html
I think I watched at least hundred videos about shrimp cause I want to get cherries soon... Your video is the best, thanks for being clear and get to the point ! That's well explained
Thanks, Ryan. The shrimp you sold me are super happy.
Great Video! One of the best shrimp videos I've come across. I think I'm ready to dive in now.
Here’s a few Bonus Tips: (1) Any inert substrate is best, don’t need special shrimp soil which can lower ph which is good for caridina but not neocardidina. (2) You can use a heater but room temp (mid-low 70f) is fine. (3) Skip at least one day a week feeding and I even feed cheap canned unsalted green beans as one of the foods in my rotation. Any more tips? Let us
Know!!
I want to start a shrimp only tank. I am glad I found your channel. Great tips. Thank you for that!
best of luck with the shrimp tank!
Best shrimp video so far thank you
Great guidelines! Nice video!
Dude this was such a well done video. Very concise. Just had 30+ shrimp shipped in from Connecticut so we'll see how they do.
Your channel deserves many more subscribers. I like your down-to-earth style. Great video!
Appreciate that a lot Jason, I’m enjoying the climb....a lot more subscribers than I thought I’d have a few months in for sure!
Agreed! This guy rox!
Cool. Thanks for the tips.
Very clear, thanks
Good info, thanks.
Great vid, loving the cherries
Thanks!
Good info. I hope to some day successfully keep the more challenging shrimp. Still learning how to keep Neo’s happy.
That’s my goal too, caridina eventually. I have to get used to altering water parameters first.
Great info! Quick and to the point! New subscriber! ❤ 💙 💚
Glad you enjoyed, welcome!
just got shrimp off you off of reddit all arrived great. great channel too
Thanks man! Appreciate you stopping by and showing some ‘brotherly” love
Great advice.
Thanks Zeeth!
Bro it’s so funny you just made this video!!! I just started breeding Orange cherry shrimp and the ones with white and red stripes! They are breeding like crazy! Great video like always!! Get some blue phantom plecos!
just saw a green phantom and a blue phantom pleco at my LFS last weekend.....very tempting
Good tips. I might venture into a few shrimp.
You should, they are fun to keep and rewarding
Great tips!
Thanks HC!
Awesome tips! Can’t emphasise the rock pile enough. I’ve managed to keep the shrimp with relatively large predators (loaches, SA cichlids) and they form a small breeding colony within the rock pile - the food that drops into the cracks allows them to graze.
bingo!
Thanks for the vid! Subbed 😉
Thanks a ton for your info. After getting tired of tetras(neon) m planning to convert it to a shrimp tank.Made a full fledged planted tank a few weeks before and will wait a few more months to get the tank completely cycled before I add shrimps.I also add cycled water from my patio pond but would wait on for a few months more.
And yes, fishes love to munch on shrimps, especially guppies and playtys.
It sounds like they will love that planted tank! What do you keep on you patio pond?
Great video man. Just subbed. Keep it up
Thanks Adam! Appreciate the support
This is one of the BEST VIDEOS, ON cherry shrimp. THANKS, RIGHT TO THE POINT...EASY TO UNDERSTAND, VERY WELL DONE. NEW SUBSCRIBER....Ron Shook
Thanks for the kind words Ron! I appreciate you subbing!
thanks this video was help full keep up the good work
many u should make a vlog on collecting driftwood and plants from the wild and setting up a fish tank from what u collected
and specify how to pic out the best quality
I would love to learn more about this shrimp. Also how to test water hardness etc.
Thanks for the information. I've wanted to start a shrimp and now I'm going to jump in and do it. Just need to find a good source of shrimp and get it set up first. I appreciate the good info.
I don't have my numbers up to where I can sell any decent shrimp however LRBretz Aquatics has some of the best home bred shrimp imo. BioAquatix.com also has good shrimp (where I've got most of mine) and great selection as LRB can be out of stock on some types.
@Lucky Schmuck's Fish Cave, thanks for the information. I'll look them up. ✌️
Good tips!
just moved mine from a 10gallon to a 15gallon - my wife insisted on catching them all using a shrimp net... and I do mean ALL - close to 200. Plucked out close to 100 snails from both tanks to give the shrimp less initial competition. There was around 7 or 8 berried shrimp, so I should have over 300 by next month. I am so addicted to these critters as I can put my face against the glass and they don't disappear.
My #1 tip is don't fiddle with the tank once it is set up. Put your rocks/wood/plants etc in the tank and forget about them. Change 10-20% of the water once a month and feed super lightly every day or two. They will mostly eat off the moss and live plants and every other surface.
Quite the chore that was I'm sure, the new tank should be booming soon though!! I could not agree more about letting it be. When I only had one shrimp tank I would count the shrimp 5 times a day and check for any berried ones, and try to alter things. Once I started playing around with other tanks and not "watching the pot boil" the tank had settled in and not only were the shrimp thriving so where the plants.
Okay ill subscribe :) great video
got em! lol thanks Mario
Nice bro 😁 👍
I came here from Michael fish room! Hopefully this room make me a better shrimp keeper than Michael Haha. Great info
Welcome! Wish I could breed guppies like him lol
Yep, got the shrimp fever here too, again. Cleaned out a 6 and a half gallon tank - yes, I know, a bit on the small size but it's a starter - and made sure I instantly cycled it. By this I mean: I used gravel from my 47 gallon fish tank - which only contains a few fish but too big fish for these shrimps (danger danger) - and put a few pebbled sized lava rocks (filter media) from the big external filter there into the small internal filter of the nano tank too. Same with the plants: picked a few plant shoots from the big tank and placed them in the nano tank. And plenty of the Java moss too from that fish tank (it grows like crazy here), so they have lots of hiding places and lots of plant material to graze on. Boom, instant cycle. So I don't have to worry about water values changing too much and too fast (if at all). Ps: regular tap water (of course treated against chlorine and such), and here too it's hard water. Which is perfect for these little ones.
It's been a while since I had shrimps, and after casually roaming around on second-hand sites I encountered a person who breeds them, close to my city (a 10 minute drive). Here in Belgium it's pretty hard to find someone who breeds these, everyone seems to only breed the expensive ones that need a lot more care (and very precise water values), and this person has an overstock of the wild cherry variant too, which caught my eye instantly. I immediately ordered 10 of them, but knowing myself I'll probably end up with 5 red ones too to see what coloration the future shrimplets will have. LOL Don't worry, I have a bigger (empty and dusty) tank waiting for them in the garage for when I need to start transferring things. Because when that baby boom starts to go off, I KNOW I'll need it.
Concerning being able to keep the water values proper with 15 shrimps in that 6 and a half gallon tank: it shouldn't be an issue either. 10% water changes every week or two ( a few cups) should do the trick for now. It all depends too on how much you feed them and what you feed them, in my opinion. And keeping the (internal) filter maintained. Soon I'll have my sponge filters, but for now the internal filter that came with the nano will do the trick. If needed, I can still do a quick DIY and add extra sponge material in it with a small pump.
Cheers, and good video! Very informative.
Nice
Nice explanation sir, spirulina is good for shrimp sir ang catapa leaves tnx in advance and god bless im from the phlippines, sorry for my grammar😅😅😅🙏
I live in tip #4. Wood is a good place to hide eggs, and more plants, more hidden shrimplets
what about plecos?
They... they don't lay eggs...
With rocks could I use ones collected from the beach for example, if I washed them? I do I specifically need to get them from a pet store?
Are trumpet Snails ok to keep with shrimp
Can we use local pond snails or zebra snails with cherry shrimps.
Ok thanks
What temp would you recommend
Any opinions of feeding them zucchini? Btw, I feel having a lot snails helps them a lot as well. The bacteria in the poop must help. And they get all left over food. My 20 gallon has 50+ Albino rams. I agree with Aquarium Co op Cory when he talks about how snails balance them self’s out.
Zucchini is great also! You can blanch it so it sinks better. They sell fancy tools to keep in down for plecos but I just use a butter knife or fork. Cory is a great resource and I've learned a lot from him.
Jessie Tanks i feed all my shrimp tanks blanched zucchini, cucumber, kale, spinach and other stuff like that alll the time. They love it all
how about the temperature??here in the philippines are room temp is around 30 to 35℃...and its been almost 3months i dont have a berried shrimp...is the temp causing it to stop breeding...my water quality is deepweell....and no chlorine at all...
I saw that you added it as text in the video, Otocinclus Cats, but I'd also add Dwarf/Pygmy Corydoras to the short list of things that can go in a breeding shrimp tank.
I’ve learnt from this video
Glad it helped you out
i dont know why but you seem like a nice cool dude.
Hey Ryan! Ok so now that I have some of your lovely shrimp in my tank....what exactly should I do in regard to feeding them? They are already attacking all the loose crud etc in my tank and on the wood in there - but the whole green bean thing etc....what was your schedule and foods you fed them there since they probably expect the same from me? I want to simulate what you did! Oh yeah - that wood is keeping the pH at 7 or a tad less...would a little crushed coral be good in there? I do not want to shock them - one looks like it has eggs inside and wow - I am hoping they get dropped and hatched.
I feed 5 days a week usually and just make sure there’s no food left after a few hours (they take longer to eat than fish). I feed crushed flake, shrimp pellets, and canned unsalted green beans mostly (I get French cut just because they’re already cut open and shrimp eat the middle easier). Over the next few days/week try to see if you notice any shrimp molts (looks like a dead shrimp but white/clear). This is a good sign and you can even leave it in the tank (they eat it). If you don’t see any molts or if you find a dead shrimp with a half molt then calcium may be an issue and try adding crushed coral. If your ph is low/need more calcium you’ll notice the snails turning white also. Green beans help with calcium for both snails and shrimp too
As far as the eggs, hopefully they’ll do fine and hatch in next few week. Keep me posted if you find any shrimplets!!
You have inspired me to do a 10gal of shrimp.
After watching full I'll do a 20
Shrimp update?
Do saddled females throw their eggs / discard if there isn’t a male that she likes? I had this saddled rili female and found these yellow spheres on the sponge filter and there isn’t any saddled females in the tank. Tank is a 40 gallon breeder and water parameters are great and steady.
How long does it take for the eggs to appear after mating
No fish in tank good advise thanks
How much baking soda would I need to turn 60 litres of soft-ish water hard?
Add "salty shrimp" too. Salty shrimp is some mineral salt. And make sure your tds (total dissolve solid) range from 150-250. gH 4-10 and kH 0-4.
So I need a heater, antibacterial cycle, prime, fish tank, plants, carpet flooring, light, filter
Can you breed shrimp in a grow out bristlenose tank?
I would say yeah! I have a bristlenose a few mystery snails and cherry shrimp with buried rn
Yo Bro, what do you think about adding cuttlefish bone that are used for birds for calcium in your shrimp tank?
Any advice would be appreciated
I don’t have personal experience with using any of those or anything to increase calcium tbh but I know a lot of ppl used crushed coral and that’s what I would try if I was doing it
Thank you for your advice
and for replying!
Interesting song choice 🥤🥤🥤🥤🥤
So have you ever had your cherry shrimp play dead? I just got two babies, I have a one gallon nursery tank that I filled with water from a fully cycled tank and sponge filters that have been cycled before so they already contain good bacteria . I drip acclaimated them to not shock them and they both did well but the next day I found one dead at the bottom of the tank. I didn't remove the dead baby I left it in the bottom of the tank and it stayed there for two days in the same spot not moving looking dead as fuck, not a shell from a molted shrimp but a straight up dead ass shrimp but today I glance at the tank and see both the little guys swimming around. I don't live on a damn pet cemetery so I'm wondering if this is something cherry shrimp or shrimp in general are known to do.
Wow that’s bizarre!! Can’t say that I’ve heard about that behavior before or have seen it. You seemed to have done everything right as far as setting up the tank. I would’ve say it was a molt but I trust that you that it wasn’t....keep me posted if you have any more shrimp raising from the dead! haha
Hey, :) Thx.
Wanna pick your brain. I'll try to be easy going.
Have you tested the TDS, gH, and kH? If so, what's the results?
Also, you mentioned you have high pH. How high is high?
Finally, you made a vid, one of your first, about Cherry Shrimp population explosion, and it looked like the substrate was Eco-Complete. Yeah?
I'm asking because my tap water's TDS is 94, gH 5'ish (100'ish), kH 5, and hard water at 8.0-8.2. It's difficult to get precision without spending a lot of money for testing. Aquarium test kits - API brand. And a $15.00 TDS meter is what I'm using; and maybe those are good enough. Thx.
My water in Gainesville, Florida is crazy. Very high GH but very low KH. So stability is my problem with keeping cherry shrimp here.
ahh yea that can be a pain. Stability can be more important than anything else. I hope to get better with using RO water and 'building' the water chemistry I want.
Are snails bad to have with shrimp?
When a Cherry Shrimp is just born, are they born colorless or are they born with color?
I have Cherry Shrimp AND Ghost Shrimp (which are colorless and transparent) in my tank.
I found a teeny tiny itty bitty shrimp in the tank and it is colorless. So I want to know if it is definitely a Ghost Shrimp, or if it could be a Cherry Shrimp.
What do you think?
My cherry gave birth 5 days ago. They are colorless atm.
Your shrimp are transparent/translucent so you can see inside all of them to see if they have eggs. My Cherry Shrimp are opaque so I cannot see inside them. How can I tell if my new five young Cherry Shrimp have at least one of each sex if I cannot see inside them and they don't have eggs?
Useful information thank you. My one concern is, how do I know if I am buying male or female shrimp?
Males are usually smaller with less color
female shrimp are typically wider bodied and more red (or blue, orange, etc). Females can also display a 'saddle' on their back right behind the head. I'm still no expert and typically like to buy at-least 10+ shrimp from a reputable person who isn't trying to sell only one sex in order to start a colony
Is the sponge filter enough? For food source?
You still need to feed the shrimp. They don’t eat a ton and they will eat off the sponge filter some but you need to actually feed them food also. Are usually feed 5 to 6 times a week.
i have red cherry with 14 neons and a guppy, just found 5 baby chrimps.
the most important is to have hideouts, a lot of them
What about daphnia?
I didn’t want to hear species only. Which means it’s good advice. Thanks
0:19 and 5:02 i literally laughed out loud
;) thanks for watching
Honestly freshwater shrimp exist to remind folks just how extremely resilient fish are in comparison.
I just wanted to say that I have kept 7 endlers with a shrimplet in a one-gallon tank for four months because their main tank broke just as I was going off to school in another town. The shrimplet survived just fine. In my experience, endlers don't have a huge appetite and can't fit the shrimp in their mouths any ways after it's 2-3 weeks old.
What color will i get if different color neoncardina shrimps breed???
Brown
My problem is my water is at 8.3 in hardness, when most data I see online for Cherry Shrimp is saying 7.0 to 8.0.
I’m really worried about having ghost shrimp in my tank tho. My water lettuce came with a few ghost shrimp babies. I hear they eat small fish.
Sorry Jessie I don't have experience with ghost shrimp. Only neocaridina and amano shrimp (which are greedy eaters but seem to do well with my cherry shrimp)
@@WildFishTanks Ghost shrimp are larger and more aggressive than Cherry shrimp so they will go after them if they are hungry.
Yes they do! Not long ago I saw my new ghost shrimp rolled one of the guppy fry who was busy nipping foods like a spider to her prey live and sucked that poor thing into her mouth.
Is there any role of male shrimp after the female is loaded with eggs because I am planing to buy a bunch of pregnant females only.
Merci... et un betta spendens avec ? c'est ok ? ... (one betta with shrimp ?)
Some Betta fish will attack the shrimp and some will not, it will depend on the individual fish. Some other fish that MIGHT work with shrimp are rasboras, otocinclus, and bristlenose plecos
ok, merci beaucoup pour tes conseils ;o) bon week-end !
My male Betta chases shrimp 🦐 and killed a few ... he is aggressive . I am getting a separate tank for my shrimp 🦐. I don’t want to see any of them dead 💀
Lucky Schmuck's Fish Cave how many of fish 🐟 you should add to a 5 or 10 gallons tank? I know some fish 🐟 likes to be in a group
Would snails and bristlenose plecos be okay in a shrimp only tank?👍
How do people breed them to different colors ,
selection
Here's an extra for tip 5: if you only have a small, internal filter (mine is a Sicce Micron) and don't want to change it out for a sponge filter, you can "borrow" your wife's nylon stockings, cut off one end and put these on the intake area of the filter (make sure you only use the original, skin coloured ones, black or other coloured stockings have dye in them which can be harmful for your shrimp). As I have experienced it functions the same way as a sponge filter, meaning the shrimp like to graze of the stocking. When I started my colony with 8 shrimp I could always find one sitting on the filter. For maintenance: you will have to clean out the stocking every other day or rotate it so the intake is freed up again and a good flow of your filter is guaranteed
Great extra tip! Thanks for not only watching but sharing useful info as well.
Im super worried. I bought 5 cherries on Thursday- two died on the way home, and one died today (I found him after cleaning the tank). I put my female shrimp, Mama, in a breeder box today. She was pregnant with some mossy colored eggs when I bought her (I didnt realize until after I paid) and so I want to make sure my Danios dont eat her babies... I put my male shrimp Harold in with her, too. I noticed that she has about half as many eggs as before.... Is it normal for them to drop some eggs if they're stressed? Not all, but some? I really want her babies to live, so I made the box as comfy as possible.... Gravel in the bottom with two small fake plants and two rocks.
Not sure if they can drop only some of the eggs but it sounds possible. I do know they can drop them all if they are stressed. Sounds like you have them setup now in a more comfortable spot and hopefully the rest of the eggs should come out fine
Are you in or near Orlando ?
Sure am, west side of town
Dear friend
I am a new shrimp keeper as of about the last five months
But
recently I've notices some of my shrimp have something white at the end
of their legs and they are swimming differently almost as being
uncomfortable
I don't know what this is
Or how to remedy
Any advice would be appreciated!
Those might be eggs :)
@@guilhermefontinha4924 Not the part of legs that are connected to the body but other end.
And i have had pregnant females as well as babies before.
How many shrimps can I keep in 10 gallon shrimp
Rohan s I would start with 10
I have amano and red cherry in my tank but the red cherry are dying.
Do you notice any weird behavior or marking on the shrimp? Have they been molting?
I use tap water for my shrimps in my 10 gallon tank, water change every 2 weeks about 20% and my strimps still don't breed as fast as others people.
Why is that?
How old is the tank? Do they breed and the babies don’t survive or you just don’t see many berried females ever?
Lucky Schmuck's Fish Cave
The tank is cycled. I have 30 shrimps which were bought as babies. Been in tank for nearly 8 months now. I had one who had babies. I saying that there no breeding as effective as they should.
Water temp is at 24c, no predators. Plenty of rocks and plants but they breed slowly.
Can you help me or can you tell me your setup. It would be a great help.
my tanks are setup very similar to yours, right now they run closer to 80f or 27c but that shouldn’t stop them from breeding. Do you notice that your rocks, plants, and/wood have been picked super clean? Perhaps increase the lights a bit to increase algae growth. I hate to say feed more but if you get more biofilm going it may help. Slowly adjust the lights to an hour or two longer a day or skip one water change as long as parameters aren’t crazy bad
I heard that in order to them to give birth they must have a mix of salty and normal water. Is that true?
That is not true. There are some shrimp like Amano shrimp that need salt or brackish water to hatch but These are 100% freshwater always
That’s shrimp supremacy they need diversity
Neocaridina or Neocaridinia?
I have heard from lots of people that neon tetras are really good and super rarely eat shrimplets
Are they salt water shrimp??
Sorry I should have explained that in the video. These are freshwater shrimp, not saltwater. If you have any more questions let me know.
Lucky Schmuck's Fish Cave thanks 😊
No . Freshwater
You haven't seen how much my shrimp poop 😆
Hard water...!! I heard shrimps like acidic, lower pH levels... You sure about that...??
There are two popular types of dwarf freshwater shrimp. Caridina shrimp (crystal Red shrimp, Taiwan bee shrimp, etc) prefer soft acidic water. Neocaridina shrimp (cherry shrimp) like these prefer hard water.
i had to introduce fish in my planted tank to keep cherry shrimp's population down... they are not profitable at all to sell. so i ended up feeding lots of adult cherries to my african butterflyfish. then i got a school of ornate tetras and a male betta to feed on the fries. and their population is till slowly growing. imo they are a bit too easy therefore not very rewarding to keep for fun, even for a relatively new hobbyist like me (10 month 2 tanks). if you have larger fish and you want to breed shrimps as live food however, cherries are fantastic.
Good point, they aren’t extremely challenging. Have you looked into caridina shrimp at all? Their colors are more diverse and they can be more of a challenge to keep thriving.
Lucky Schmuck's Fish Cave funny story… I’m fine looking at individual bee shrimps. But a group of them together would trigger my entomophobia somehow… maybe it’s something to to with the stripes on their body. When I bought cherry shrimps from my local fish store almost 10 months ago, I was panting heavily just from looking at their crystal black tank next to the cherries and I had to come up with shitty excuses why I was acting weird lol.
We wouldn't be human if we all didn't have our own unique qualities, totally understand. Thanks for teaching me about entomophobia, had no clue what it is.
Habla Español? Lol
It's Neocaradina, not Neocaradiña ;-)
only for a few years in high school, I'm just really bad with pronunciations. I'll try to work on saying it properly now that I know ;)
