There's a ton of elevation changes, but the corners are all so long that it takes some of the momentum out of it, I guess? @@mitchell-wallisforce7859 I literally hate it so much. In fact, they would be better off racing at Semetin. The corners have about as much soul as a CEO of a fortune 500 company. It is literally torture how long it takes to get around a single corner in anything slower than a GP2 car. I hate the kerb colour. Kerbs with three colours just look messy, like just paint it blue and white bro. All the corners are 3rd or 4th gear. Sector two is literally Sochi or an American suburb with rounded off edges (ok maybe a tad better), you could run an entire farm on the runoff areas. If the Soviet Union took form in a racetrack, it would be this. The scenery is about as repetitive as Gran Turismo 7. It is one of the WORST racetracks in the entire world.
If you want a cooler version of Brno (not that it is inherently cool but okay), just go to Autodrom Chyaka (the pre 2000s track), which is an actual Soviet Union track. I once filled the billboards with Soviet propaganda and raced as Kimi Raikkonen and it is one of the most crazy racetracks in the world. There is a 200mph bump that give you a good impression of what its like to be Yuri Gagarin, a pit wall on the racing line that is solider than the Iron Curtain, and similar corners, but with banking and a Soviet factory. If there ever was a Soviet Grand Prix, it would be here. It is Communisms greatest (and only) gift to humainty. Download the mod for Assetto Corsa, and take the Formula Hybrid round here instead of doing Chinese torture, or even worse, lapping Brno in a GT3 car. F*** it I'm gonna rant about GT3s, because they are the most stupidly overpopular, annoying little shits ever to exists. Who suddenly got the idea of "Oh I know, let's create a 600hp machine with downforce levels not low enough to get some badass powersliding pictures, and not high enough to blow your socks off like a DTM car or LMP1, and then add every single assist ever to make it the most souless cars since the Vauxhall Vectra" and they actually did it. And you know what, PEOPLE OBSESS OVER THEM!!! You know, the type of guys who literally spend every single second of their lives at Spa in GT3s aren't the gigachads like Keke Rosberg, Steve McQueen or James Hunt. These guys would not even touch these damn things with a bargepole. The guys who obsess over them are these esports sweats who I could swear are biological lizards. There are less connected than your president is to society. They actually sucked the soul of GT3 racing, and are killing the last trickle of hope we had with the GTEs, which I actually don't really mind so much. Removing ABS makes the driving experience a million times better. You actually have to think about how you apply the brakes instead of mashing on them like a monkey. Also, the BoP is stupid af. It literally kills all innovation. Literally all you have to do is Ctrl+C then Ctrl+V the road car, add heccing big wings on the and make it fatter. No fun stuff like someone rolling up in a road legal Porsche 962 or secret boost tanks in the back. Seriously what have GT3s actually achieved... Actually thinking about it, they have arguably made the greatest achievement since mankind went to space. They actually made Spa BORING with all their stupid dumb lobbies that have killed all diversity in online play for every sim. If a new sim comes out and it doesn't have Spa, spend every single living minute you have online racing in it because I guarantee, as soon as that damned track comes out as DLC the lobbies will be infected by a plague worse than the bubonic plague known as "GT3 at Spa".

What really made GTR2 a solid package was that it felt complete. The game had variable weather (got broke in the latest official patch, but the community created a fix), real time day-night cycle, two full seasons with the actual grids for each race, unlockables, custom championships for the more "arcadey" players, safety cars (a bit broken, and you need to tinker with the .PLR file to make them actually happen more often), set ups, animated track marshals (outdated by today's standards but how many sims from then on had marshals?), animated pit crew, rain reflections (how many years did we have to wait until a sim got them more or less right?)... And it's very mod friendly. Add the almost mandatory FIA GT 1997-2009 mod and you have the full history of the FIA GT Championship, with the actual real-life grids for each race. Every. Single. Car. That. Competed. (save for two oddballs like the Renault Spider and the SSZ Stradale.) Now that's a complete package for a mid 2000s game.

    • @RevarBB
      @RevarBB Před 11 měsíci

You forgot to say about AI ignoring blue flags and even fighting you by changing line under braking which can fuck your race. First 1-2 laps AI is extremely slow so you overtake 20 cars before turn 2. Pitstops are completely broken, AI pits randomly, some of them will pit even on lap 1, others won't pit at all, others will pit several times. They probably refuel to 100% and change tires every time so player pitstops are way quicker than AI, bam you go from p10 to p1 and win the race coz you overtake 10 cars in pit. Tyre usage is broken, for player it's super slow and no grip while AI still drives with same pace. There is many many more. GTR2 is literally unplayable.

    • @Pioneero
      @Pioneero Před 11 měsíci

      @@RevarBB
AIs do not actually ignore blue flags. AIs are _not shown_ blue flags, but they are hardcoded to slow down a bit when being lapped (in older ISImotor games such as F1C, it's more noticeable as it was intended to simulate F1. In fact, they were even hardcoded to give way to the first driver of the team if both cars from the same team are running close, a feature not carried over to other ISImotor games). And no, they do not change line under braking. In fact, one of the main criticisms of GTR2 is the lack of AI aggression when overtaking or when being overtaken. This is due mostly to poor values in the .aiw file of add-on circuits.
AI doesn't pit randomly. There's an option (unused in GTR2 vanilla but can be re-enabled) called PitStopStrategies that can be defined in the track's .gdb file that forces AI to pit in specific laps. AI only pits if it has detached wings or if it's in need for fuel. For the latter, it always fills to 100% tank if it's a timed race, otherwise, it fills up to the number of remaining laps plus one. This sometimes leads to bad pit calculations in add-on circuits due to wrong FuelUse values in the .aiw file, in combination with equally wrong FuelConsumption and FuelEstimate values in the car's .eng file. And yes, they change tires every single time, even if they don't need to. Tyre usage is actually broken _in favor of AI_. Human cars use a higher WearRate than AIs, as they use their own value (which is based on a constant). This can be modified in the .tyr file.
I don't want to dismiss some of your points, but something tells me it's influenced by mods, which most of the time tinker (for the worse) with these values.

As an enthusiastic youngster, Geoffrey C’s GP2/3/4, GPL, GTR2 etc gave me great hope for the future of driving pretend race cars. There was an infectious optimism throughout the community that was helped in no small part by the steady stream of talented modders building upon the solid foundations developers at the time had provided - for the simple purpose of being able to experience their favourite car/track combo & to share that experience with others.
There’s definitely an element of rose-tinted glasses but at the time I would never have believed that decades later racing on a computer would’ve regressed into the segregation of an already small community by paywalls, circle-jerking over expensive gear, echo chamber forums, obsessive fixation on ELO type rankings & imo perhaps the worst of all - an over saturation of content “creators” with the driving talent of a vision impaired geriatric patient terrorising a footpath on their mobility scooter while out on day leave that we’ve ended up with today…..

Everyone has strong opinions about that. I guess it's cool if you only want to play online but for the most of us that enjoy playing offline the gameplay has suffered a lot. We've been left behind...
The AI aren't good anymore, there's very littele strategy, there is no nice career modes anymore.
I've just tried to make an endurance championship on assetto corsa. I've struggled a lot. Its hard to make a 3-hour race working with AIs. They don't know when they are lapped, their pit strategy is a goof, there's no realistic difference between how they behave (like they don't take the car's characteristics, they are on rails, either fas or slow). I still find gtr2 or grand prix 2 more satisfying to play long time than the modern sims...

    • @steelin666
      @steelin666 Před rokem +6

I wish it was about how it feels. Nope. GTR2 still feels great. Many older sims do. It's more about how many variables there are in physics engine that prove the physics are more sophisticated than the competition's. If there are enough variables, one will find a way to describe the feeling as right. But complexity doesn't guarantee fidelity, while simplicity doesn't mean inaccuracy.
The philosophy behind racing sims have changed. Modern racing sims aim at people who think they're preparing for a real race, instead of acknowledging they play a complex, realistic, but a video game, and it's supposed to be a well designed entertainment product, not a barebone vessel for showoff physics engine. Ironically, it's widely ridiculed F1 series that keeps being pretty close in terms of design philosophy to the old school. And if you pick a part with good handling - like F1 2020, but certainly not F1 22 - you will find a simracing game that recreates the joy of the past. The closest thing for sports cars in recent years was, not coincidentally, Project Cars 2, but it was far from the level of polish that GTR2 had.

GTR2 has the same problems if not worse. AI ignore blue flags and even fight you by changing line under braking which can fuck your race. First 1-2 laps AI is extremely slow so you overtake 20 cars before turn 2. Ridiculous.

I modded the shit out of it, drove anything from Group C seasons to DTM sprints but the coolest thing was setting up maximum amount of cars of Spa or Daytona, make it a 4-hour event with 24h day night cycle and have my buddy race with me with one hour stints. It simply was the best feeling ever to finish those events. Obviously games are more realistic and more in-depth nowadays and I have my nostalgia goggles on, but the passion showed in GTR 2 like no other. I guess I gotta download it, instal the no CD and Porsche patches and drive some Spa.

Fixed up GTR2 is simply amazing. but..
Power and Glory is absolutely, point blank, something truly amazing. I don't really like the faster prototypes in that, give me a well handling car on the period tracks and I can spend a long while just driving. THe prototypes (rightly) feel unwieldy and like they'l snap at any moment, especially, IMO, when it's raining.
For something more modern, the NAGP 2007 ALMS mod is amazing too. Cutting through traffic at any of the 07 tracks is simply something that everyone should try. Set up a run with the full field at Road America for the race there and there is something absolutely beautiful about being in a prototype and flying past the GT cars on the run down to Station 5, up the hill to 6, and the whole sequence leading to the Carousel. Rocketing past the GT cars on the Hurry Downs is something, honestly, beautiful. See also: Road Atlanta, Sebring, going two wide around the last corner is okay, three wide is pushing it, but try five wide, with you, another prototype, and one GT car pitting, and the others in a fight for position. Yes. Ive ALMS cars can fit around the final corner. Not so much when the front straight or bumps happen, mind. It's possible...but not suggested. Ended up getting fired into the wall or that one, and deservedly so...ebring,
Base GTR2 has this too on tracks like Spa as well, though hilariously I managed, once, to pull off an NGT victory at a soaking wet Donington, we're talking 1993 European GP levels of rain. I didn't punt the Viper, I was locked up on all four wheels in the rain and turned in on me, got a free trip to the gravel for that and I had to deal with damage, limpe it home to win. Give me a fast car, fast bit of track and let me slice through trafic, and I am very, very content with it.and
Also, it made/makes a bloody good Bathurst 1000 sim, too. I've used Race 07 for the sprints and GTR2 for the enduros, works reasonably well for that I'd argue.

Games as AC, rF2, ACC and AMS2 took YEARS to reach a "completion" level that is not even close to what GTR2 delivered. Personally I prefer RACE07 because WTCC is more in my taste than GT, and all of it's expansions delivered a still unmatched content (not considering mods). Then this is what GTR2 does absolutely fantastically. You want 1997 FIA GT, but with the F50 and Lambo GT1, you can do it. You'd like to do a Group C series on super fast 60s tracks with the greatest teams over a 10 year period? Yup, you can recreate that with large fields and long races and realistic speeds.

Imagine combination of games like Forza Horizon 5 (with huge car list), Assetto Corsa, BeamNG and car mechanic simulator in one big game. I know it seems impossible now. In the past we didn't think games would look that awesome as they look today. Technology will get there. I just hope i'm gonna be alive to witness that.
I imagine that game to have it's own economy system (like EVE online).
Slowed down progression. That way you can bond with one car instead of owning 50+ cars like in forza (no satisfaction, bored easily). You can have multiple cars but in the game is some king of grinding system and it would be very hard to own multiple cars. Maybe later in game progression.
Car mechanic shops own by players.
Players can own part shops (engine parts, body kits, wheels, steering wheels etc...)
You can also buy parts online and work on your own car in your garage.
Maybe put purchasing mechanical tools for repairing or building cars.
Customization has to be unprecedented (every detail possible).
    Music customization. (Like NFS Underground)
RPG elements (like no pixel server in GTA 5).
City doesn't have to be huge, rather packed with a lot of content.
Car meets where you can get out of the car and examine other people's car engines, body work and interiors.
Not the mention a good story. I don't understand why racing games should not have great stories, i don't know, like GTA 5 or RDR2 just because it's a racing game.
Put some „surviving“ elements like gas and car maintenance (oil change, car wash etc...)
Implement some kind of gambling system. Let's say you wanna race with another person. Both of you can place a bet (amount). So you can race for money or car (pink slips).
Implement social network system (like GTA 5 RP) for posting pictures of progress of your car when you working in your garage or for car meets. Build your network of people.
Car clubs - You decide what are the terms for getting in your car club. There would be some kind of club wars to see witch club is the best in the city. That way you can build reputation (live online with other players).
Put way more barn finds and junk jards where you can find some rare gems.
    Car detailing.
Show contest, as well music, style and tuning contest.
Each server can represent one continent with up to 150 players or more (3 servers - USA, Europe, Asia)
In, for example, USA server you can se more muscle cars. In Europe more BMW's, Audi, Volvo etc.
You can travel between servers and we need somehow blend that transition with some kind of animation. For example, if the server is full, AI worker won't let you pass the border.
On the start of the game where player can't afford they own house yet, we provide public garages.
Avatars must be fully customizable (clothes, accessories etc...)
Houses can be customizable (like Hogwards Legacy)
If players don't have enough money to race among each other, put some all time available races so players can grind money.
Players can own car wash house.
Players can own towing car companies.
Players can own delivery businesses (for car parts, tires, wheels etc...)
    Players can own taxi business.
Players can own paint shops (store and workshop)
All businesses can have social media page or internet page.
    Open communication all the time.
Besides car meet places, put some restaurants where players can gather, eat and socialize (players can own those restaurants). Restaurants can be customizable to in some racing fashion.
