I also play CZcams in the background while working. As such, my battery life on iphone was dreadful. Android seems to handle the youtube app much better and I can run it in the background for hours on end. Love your videos! Feel better!
Thanks Kylan
The S23 Plus is a great all rounder stand alone device for most platform agnostic folks who don’t need an S Pen. Also since Samsung is a more established hardware manufacturer, they probably also have better and more accessible after sales support in case something goes wrong (as compared to a Google Pixel). The only thing really bad about it is the amount of Samsung bloatware.
The price outside the US is another con. It really is expensive, costing £1099 for just 8GB RAM/1080p. I suppose it is a sign of the times, but a tough buy.
Samsung's after sales support is horrible if you have a fold or a flip.
@@andyH_England I know what you're saying, but who pays full price for a Samsung. You can trade in a brick and get £200 off
@@parshakamarsh True
In India 256gb variant starts from Rs 94,999 ($ 1157). Which is not worth the price as it only has 1080p panel.
I love that you included Apple's walled-garden approach to connectors and software. Reviewers seem to skip over those things all the time.
@@Gay-is-_-trash I think everyone should care about artificial and arbitrary feature gates.
@@Gay-is-_-trash Whatever you say bro.
Apple created the walled garden as a feature and it would be a fool that claims they got that wrong, as Apple’s profits can testify to over the last 15 years. It is only a matter of time before Android moves that way, though Google may just reboot their own OS in the Apple way. Next-gen SD8G3 kills 32-bit apps is the inevitable start of that transition.
this guy like to talk alot
I like this type of review. Although it's not objective, it does give you an idea of what a phone would "feel" like if you own it.
I don't like Iphones because of the ecosystem. What makes things worse, is that Iphone accessories are overpriced and the Iphone software is tailored to favor their own accessories over others. That means for example, I'll have to buy an airpods that I don't like rather than buying a sony xm4.
The main reason I went for a Pixel is because I run Graphene OS and therefore don't rely as much on Google services and their intrusiveness. I also prefer their OS but hardware wise, I have to say, Samsung is leading, especially now that they're using Snapdragon worldwide.
Welcome back Josh! hope you are feeling better !
As much as reviewers are unhappy with the S23 series because of the similar design to the S22, IMO Samsung actually fixed the issues that matter to consumers i.e., performance fluidity and battery life. Next they should give users the freedom to delete one of the samsung-google duplicate apps. No need to have two photos apps, two messages apps, etc.
Samsung did not fix efficiency and performance, it was Samsung the root cause of that and it was fixed by Qualcomm sacking Samsung Fabs and employing TSMC to foundry their chips.
I recently bought the S23 Ultra 512/12GB . Sad about the demise of the mSD card , but I transffered all my 116GB of photos since 2015 ( from Samsung S5 era ) till 2023. What bothers me is that everyone praises the storage speed of the S23 Ultra. When transferring the mentioned 116GB I stumbled upon the required time needed ( hours ) to transfer from Samsung T5 on USB3.1 gen 2 10 GbS attached to my computer to the S23 U . saddly only a couple of hundred MB on seq write , What about your S23 storage speed ?
Great review! I would LOVE to know about your life journey!! Those types of videos bring immense value to us!!
I used the iphone 14 pro max for about a month, and I agree with you, epecially about the size. It was just too big and too heavy; also, the large camera bump made it seem very top-heavy. I got used to the dynamic island, but couldn't get used to the size and weight. I picked up the s23 plus, and I love it. It feels so much better, both in the hand and the pocket. Even though it has roughly the same size screen as the 14 pro max. The cameras seem equal; some shots and videos I liked the iphone better for, and some the Samsung. Both give me all-day battery, and, since I charg it at bedtime, that is all that matters to me. As a plus, the s23 was a good deal cheaper, and had double the base storage.
And don't even get me started on the lack of USB-C...
Josh if you are going to review phones, I would like to hear your thoughts on the One plus 11. I appreciate your honesty about Samsung and Apple, good video.
Iphone is going to be supported in windows soon. It's a little limited but if you have tried dell's phone connection app it's a lot like that. I think the iPhone 15 might be worth it if they go to usb-c but the max is massive and I couldn't do it.
Thanks for sharing your experiences with phone picking. Love to see your very practical and non BS point of view on phones also.
hey Josh, are you affected by the blur hardware defect present in some S23/S23+ models? Most noticeable when taking photo of a document, there is a blur at the edges
I haven't noticed it. Doesn't mean it's not there though
Josh , as always , I'm delighted by your video. Naturaly I want to hear about your last 6 month amazing journeys
Upgraded to S23 Ultra (from S10) this year and the battery life is just unbelievable, 10-12h SoT is just nuts.
@Jim Anderson I've seen several battery comparisons, and they seem to be about the same
Hell the 5000ma battery on my a54 is blowing my mind itself
Because its snapdragon chip … best for batery life
@@deadboy3646 how much sot do u get??
@raasiaboobacker9957 12-16 hrs, it's just purely outstanding. Best example from me, on my days off when I use & use my phone the most (I mean alot) at 80%-100% brightness from wake around say usually 9am to around midnight-2am, by the end of the nights usually around 5% or under but, that's still from that morning's full charge. The last 9-10 months with the a54 every single day that's ever started with a full charge, I've still never had to go charge it once thru the whole day/night, that's both work days and days off. First i've ever had that can manage that daily, for damn sure.
Great video sir! It's the first time I've ever stumbled upon your channel and I really appreciated your straight forward thoughts and explanation about your experiences. I really consider my options on upgrading in this price category of phones and since I'm from EU I'm between the s23 plus and Honor magic 5 pro since you can find great deals on both plus im really comfortable in the android system. Would be really interested on hearing your thoughts about those 2. Wishing you the best and a quick recovery!
Thanks for the kind words. And noted
Hi Josh. Sir. I am planning to get the Legion slim 7i 2022 with 12700h 3060 and 2560*1600p. I watched yours jarrods review. I see the benchmarks looks good. Bit i really don't know of the benchmarks necessiraly means the real time performamce. aa you have used this i want to get the idea. Can u help me. I will play games too. And codes. Video editing. Blender. And what about streaming?
As I trust your judgement in reviewing laptops, would you review the desktop mode on the S23+ ?
I'm super interested in knowing how you ended up in this lifestyle for sure! And great review by the way
I used to have iphone13mini and I absolutely loved it, ALMOST every aspect of it. What put me off were 1. photo quality 2. compatibility issues with PC.
Why apple has to make everything different from all the other company is puzzling, but iphones are more solidly built.
I eventually let go of 13 mini, decided to keep SE though, because it still works great.
My samsung a3 2017 was still working fine, but decided to let it go because some important apps don't work on the Android version anymore.
So I've got myself s23 and s23 plus for my husband during Black Friday sale.
Battery of s23 is rather lacklustre but everything else is amazing. s23 plus though. It's perfect for my hubby. Screen is large enough, awesome everything including battery.
Both phones charge up pretty quickly. I'm very happy about my decision.
Hi! I'm now using s23, but battery life is't great. I can get max 5hrs of screen time. Usually 4. Thinking to buy s23 plus. Is the battery on plus so much better. I don't consider s24 line up cause they have exynos processors in my region. Thanks!
Really great video as always Josh!! I too ordered my S23 (base model) during the pre-order sale, I really love it! It's snappy, battery life is great and finally a Snapdragon processor globally! ❤
I had a S22 Ultra, and the battery life was one of its weakest points. I can't even make it more than half a day even with moderate usage. Upgraded to the S23 Ultra and I can a full day easy.
Although the S22 series are using Snapdragons for most regions, the Samsung fabricated chipsets are mediocre on sustained performance and power consumption. The TSMC made 8G2 on the S23's is excellent.
Yes, I usually upgrade every two years, but my Exynos S22U was so bad that I could not envisage another year without throwing it at a wall. The non_samsung-fabbed S23U is a totally night to day improvement and what Qualcomm has been missing out on for years. Glad they did not go with cheaper Samsung made chips and instead went TSMC. The latter is clearly the best; see Apple Silicon and Dimensity.
Great review! Thanks!
another banger!
i just love your angle on reviews.
Thanks!
Isn't that new ver. of android will allow us to remove any app on the phone ?
S23 Plus rocks! Flagship feel without the flagship price. Gorgeous display for movies and browsing, the processor lets me multitask like crazy, and the camera captures stunning photos and videos, even in low light. Plus, the in-screen fingerprint sensor unlocks it in a snap. Just a heads up, some screen protectors can be finicky with the sensor. I grabbed a fingerprint-compatible one from Gadgetshieldz and now it's flawless!
Nice video Josh!
nice video thanks josh
Having exactly the same experience / perspective for iPhone, would love to see your comparison / experience sharing for pixel vs samsung
@@Nila334-NO-MORE-GAYS i switched from Apple iPhone (after 5 years) to Google Pixel and I have no regrets. iOS is definitely not as polished nowadays as it used to be, my experience with iOS 16 was awful, full of bugs even 3 months after release and suddenly TWO hours less battery life compared to iOS 15. I'd say android 13 is actually more refined nowadays, only experienced two bugs in 4 months, a lot less than with iOS 16 👍
Hey Josh! I am rocking a S23 ultra model and I absolutely love it! Anyways I would really like to know which laptop you use with it since MacBook is kind of out of the ecosystem. Thanks to your videos i am leaning towards the lenovo legion slim 7. Let me know what are your thoughts on this 😊
I use the Macbook Pro 14 fine with it. Both accept USB C charging, and you can access your text messages via the android web interface
But Legion Slim 7 is great if you want to go Windows
I would recommend my very own Zephyrus G14 with the Radeon 6700 GPU and Ryzen 9 CPU, if you're alright at not going with an Intel + NVidia combo or super heavy gaming and content creation.
On a side note, what do you say about the HP Dragonfly Elite, Josh? It looks stunning and has exceptional ports, but that $3000+ price is nuts.
Josh i like how you review phone, keep it up man!!
Thanks mate!
Hello! Thks for your video. Wich smartphone or iPhone would you buy with pictures and videos as first criteria? (or wait for iPhone 15 or Google 8 pro or else? ) Mainly shooting my kids and landscape and like to be able to print some in big format. Thks!
I feel iPhone camera is more realistic and natural. If that's your own criteria, I'd get that
@@JustJoshTech thks
Have you tried OnePlus 11 yet? Hope to see in the future video.
Actually Samsung Apps are pretty good. I use many of them. My favorites are Samsung Music, Internet (excellent Dark Mode), Samsung Pass, E-Mail app and Samsung Notes. They are good.
I purchased three S23+ phones and we are all extremely happy with them. I almost purchased three Torras Kickstand cases but instead went with the Poetic Neon Series slim cases, as another CZcamsr beat the crap out of these cases housing an iPhone 13 without a screen protector. czcams.com/video/96TF985v0SA/video.html starting @4:50 Glad you're feeling better and please keep the great videos coming!
You should definitely try Pixel 7 Pro and share your experience
If it was narrow 6.7 inch 20/9 equal bezels with qhd display it would've been the best in its class
I love how humble you are
Keep it up!
Thank you! I appreciate that
Please compare S23 + vs iPhone 14 plus.. I'm between those two.. Looking to upgrade from S22..
I would highly recommend you try the Pixel 7 Pro. It is actually cheaper than the S23+ in my country and offers a much better experience in terms of UI and camera quality. I will say that the chipset is not the most efficient, and hence the battery life is average to decent depending on your usage. But once you are used to the Pixel UI and it's fluidity, along with all the smart features that make the phone that much more of a 'smartphone' vs the competition, you really have something that is unique and charming!
For me s23+ with one ui is far above pixel ui because of great customizations & software supports. Btw pixel battery life is really bad compare to samsung's
@@modestman6753 does Samsung still add lots of shitty software you never use and can’t get rid of?
@@BodybuildingSteveapps you can disable and hide? There's not many and the UI is still cleaner and much more customizable

Thank you Josh for reviewing a phone. Please do these more often. I've loved your laptop reviews over the years and I always wanted you to review phones as well.
Glad you enjoyed it. And thanks for watching for the last couple of years

I bought a Xiaomi Poco F3 phone a year ago because of Dave2D recommendation and I'm proud of this purchase as well but I want you to know that when I was watching all the videos of Dave and other phone reviewers I kept wishing I could get your input as well. And get the galaxy buds 2 pro. Also amazing!
Remember to enable Dolby atmos!
Thank you for the recommendation. I'm planning to buy this phone.
Did you consider the iPhone 14 Pro instead of the Pro Max? I don't get why the 14 Plus was the size of a top tier iPhone and the regular 14 Pro was the size of the base $800 iPhone 14..
Loved this review as well! The S23 Plus is a great balance between the base and the Ultra model..
I've been exclusively an Apple user for my tech products for the past 10 years (computer, phone, pad, watch, tv; basically everything technology that I use), and as a 14 pro max user I am very happy with the phone. However, i've been intrigued by Samsung devices over the past several years, especially the Fold and Ultra since the s-pen came to the Ultra. If I wasn't so reliant on all my devices connecting together (including connecting with my family's devices as well), I would definitely go Samsung. They seem to improve in the right areas year over year, and being able to have a tablet in my pocket that folds up -- that sounds just awesome.
I think Samsung is cool so I’m not trying to be biased against them - but my friend who has the Fold 4 absolutely hates it. He says it’s too bulky and heavy, the outer screen is too narrow, and many apps just don’t scale properly on the wide inner screen. He told me, much to my surprise, that he’s going to get an iPhone this year after almost 5 years of exclusively using Samsung phones.
Take that for what you will
@@goJesusandStarcraftseems like your friend is isheep
@@-Blue-_ how is he an isheep when he hasn't even used a iphone
The plus is ideal for me between the regular S23 and the Ultra, but I am going to wait for the 24 to drop, hopefully it'll have a greater DPI and the Exynos chip will outperform the S23 Snapdragon chip.
Have you went the S24 path, ehat config and how is your experience?
@@buayabanchristianjoseph9933 I didn't because in my region they ship the Exynos so I am going to wait for the S25, if not I will get the S24 Ultra.
That is good for you, may I ask what daily driver are you currently using?
No stylus?
Great review!
I have a Pixel 7 (non pro) and I really think that Google phones are worth a try! The software is excellent (no duplicate apps since it's google + many features powered by AI), build quality has improved a LOT and the cameras are really good. It might not satisfy your exact needs as well as Samsung phones do but I would at least watch a couple reviews as this 7th generation is excellent in many aspects.
At the end of the day, this kind of decision often comes down to personal preferences so it's also possible that you simply prefer the Samsung brand and quality😄
@@Gay-is-_-trash And iPhones are also a bit more expensive than both Pixel models are. That's such an objective comment jeez 💀
@@Gay-is-_-trash none of your points are sensible, except the software if you consider it from a subjective perspective. Even subjectively, one of the biggest appeals of the pixels is the software. Cameras being middling is nonsense, and even if you could argue that older pixels (3/4/5) had one or two hardware issues, Google seems to have learnt the lesson with succeeding pixels.
@@Gay-is-_-trash "infinitely better experience". I suspect you've never used a pixel.
@@Gay-is-_-trash bro your commenting even without knowing about the other phone 🤷♀️ that's called biased cause you're 1 sided, and just completely ignoring the Opinions of others. Btw in my own opinion iPhone is boring, Android is better beacause of freedom and that's my reason, i have more reasons but it would be a long comment
My last phone was pixel 7a. Mine must've been defective, fingerprint sensor never really worked, charging speed was awfully slow, battery life was unimpressive and it was bulky and heavy.
I'm happy with any brand as long as it's the right one for me. Used to love sony xperia, but they were dead as soon as screen was cracked and there were no repairers dealing with sony phones.
Iphones are not as user-friendly as Android in my honest opinion. I've used two iphones in the past.
I have had bad experiences with Samsung phones as well, SIM tray used to get damaged quickly, but A3 2017 version was a terrific phone for the price, it still works after over 6 years.
I've had s10e as well, but kept having multiple issues and had to let it go.
With s23 and s23 plus, I feel I finally found the right phones for me and hubby.
the galaxy s22 I'm using right now really got bashed hard here 😂
I'm content with it though, not much complaints as I'm a rather light user
I have this phone since a couple of days and I am impressed in every way except the main Camera wich always delivers blurry photos on one side of the picture. Otherwise it's a great phone
I wish you review mid range phone for gaming or all rounder(basic right)
Thank you. We will get there. Right now I want us to get to a solid 2 laptop videos per week. Once we are there we'll expand to another verticle
Great review of a product from a practical reviewer. I'll weigh you reviews higher than some other CZcamsrs that are fanboys or are only influenced by products for creators, specifically those that are video centric creators. Not everyone is looking for a creator laptop or for that matter a gaming laptop. I believe most people would be happy with a "regular" laptop. My only suggestion would be to focus on products that don't only suite the U.S. market.
I got it from my 13 pro max and now FedEx is saying they lost it 😩
My new plus is setting up as I type this. My only complaint is the price. These phones are too expensive and when one company raises the price others seem to do the same. Typical I guess.
I like this, even as an iPhone 14PM user 😊
@@Gay-is-_-trash I have the plus and it is not awful in any way, it's genuinely an awesome phone. I am also not paid by samsung to say this, in fact I paid them.
Awesome just like the rest of the phone reviews Josh!
Duplicate apps have always been a problem on Android.
Which one is best 🥰 Samsung or Apple
When you going to compare the features, user experience, and lot of customization then pixel will left the chat So i will go for the s23 plus
That's funny, I upgraded from my S22+ to the S23 Ultra due to the terrible battery life on my S22+. Hoping my S23 Ultra will be way better battery wise than my S22+ :)
@@Gay-is-_-trash I wouldn't be so sure about that with the S23's.. All S23 models have incredible battery life and can compete with iPhone.. I saw a battery test and the S23's overall did better than the Exynos S22 models..

Thank You!! The Pixel 7 Pro Is Ugly! I Don't Care If It Has Better Camera (Subjective) Or A Lower Price. The S23 Plus Is Better Looking & Can Handle Anything You Throw At It. The Price Is Not A Matter.
For now Samsung is definitely winning the innovation race and is making the more competent and appealing devices. But I feel like Apple will kill it on the next generation of Apple devices. I'm a Samsung and Windows user, but I'm bored of it now, I'm not heavy into customization, what I like about Samsung is the ability to create shortcuts to specific pages and websites and arrange them anywhere on the home screen, that way I'm able to make folders for all my different occupations directly on the home screen, training schedule, betting folders, so I can just instantly get there, but I'm tired of the feel, I'm somebody that needs constant new sensory experience and I feel for this reason I'll give Apple a try just because. Maybe by buying an IPhone 13Pr0 with a MacBook and see.
Samsung S23+ is such a great phone yet why theres a center selfie camera cut,, damn i just cant stand it tbh.. honestly it just preferences
