Folding Picnic Table - DIY with 2x4s and a chopsaw!

These folding picnic tables have been around for awhile and we decided to try one out. It took us 11 2x4s and the better part of one day to complete the task. I am certain we can build another in a just few hours time.
A nifty and useful project, this table sees regular use in the backyard.
This is an older project and I DO NOT HAVE THE PLANS FOR THIS. The ones I used were printed out by our original customer nearly ten years ago.

Plywood is worse. This video was made two years ago and the bench itself was done a year before that, so we got in under the wire. And being rich is better than being poor!

What stain would you put on that?
Any outdoor rated stain will suffice. There are a lot of deck finishes that will work, too. Keep in mind that anything you leave in the yard will get weathered and require maintenance.

Trust the plan sheet. Some of the parts don't seem right but turn out to fit together in the end. I wish I could point you to a good set of plans, but the link I used is gone to history.
Building jigs to cut all the components would speed up the work and integrity of the DIY build?
Yes, absolutely. Jigs are useful if you are building multiple pieces. I wound up making four of these and never saw the need for jigs.
I am building this and the attachment of the folding part to the ends is confusing me. Any helpful advice would be greatly appreciated
Cool. Well, except for the confusion part, which I do understand. This is a weird project from the mechanical point of view. I wish I had the plans to share but they'd only help a little. Best I can say is to assemble the parts as shown on whatever plans you do have then try putting the pieces together. Mine didn't make any sense until finally trusting the process and adjusting from there. If nothing else, it only a couple more 2x4s for practice. The second one is easier.
Do you recommend building both benches then while stable build table top and mechanical? I appreciate your feedback

This is an older project so I can't find the old link. A search for converting picnic table should get you what you're looking for.

There are several places online. The plans used here are similar to others though the site I used for this build is extinct. My customer provided these. Sorry I cannot be of more help.
