Which story would you like to see done next??
The story of the Feanorians!! Especially the three kinslayings and the hunt for the silmarils! (Might also be interesting for more casual LOTR fans since it also ties into the story of Elronds backstory/childhood, being adopted by Maglor and all)
The fall of gondolin, it is SO EPIC.
The rest of the Silmarillian?
The Quenta Silmarillion
Love that there's coming some silmarillion content...I'd personally love to here you're views on the children of Hurin or actually any other tale from the Tolkien legendarium...keep up the great work!!!
Can't believe how epic this manages to be, while also being hilarious
Evertime the Prof mentioned some knew detail I thought, "Yup, I know this story". Of course I was wrong and the whole time there's a new plot twist with the next plot twist untwistwisting the previous one. And God damn it, it just sounds sooo epic.
@@culturestudios3500 one of the greatest tales from literature infused with epic memes from our time🙌
Fun fact about the "Talking Dog," Huan: He's a Hound of Valinor, which means he was granted the ability to talk to humans only three times over the course of his entire life. So most of the time he's silent, but at a couple key points in the story, he decides to use that ability.
Talking dog friend is named Huan. His death totally made me cry the first time I read it. I was in my high school cafeteria pretending I had allergies because I had so many tears. Very good boy💔
If you dont cry with the death of the greatest of wolfhounds we can't be friends.
Huan the Goodest Boy~
My religious grandmother: "You've read the Bible I assume?"
Me: "I've read *a type* of Bible."
*opens to a random page of the Silmarillion*
@Destrologando TM Hope he's not crying, The Silmarillion has better prose than The Bible for a start.
@@michaelandrews117 I mean, the Bible's been translated out of its native language several times. Its prose is beautiful in ancient Hebrew.
Well that was the point Tolkien was trying to make...
So true!
"For small prices do Elven kings sell their daughters!" -- probably my favorite line in the Tolkien-verse.
Hit me with the big depression, the story of Turin.
Now we're talking
That's the one
Very Shakespearean tragic hero, also reminiscent of Greek legends
Oh yeah, I'm ready to have my heart torn out again.
Have you heard it narrated by Sir Christopher Lee?
"Escapes with the help of an immortal talking dog, which she rides on straight out of dodge like a horse."
*T R U E S T O R Y*
All these people saying they grew up on Beren and Luthien:
Me: so it's a book, not just a song break?
I am now interested.
Well yes but no but yes
Arguably the best story in the Silmarillion.
@@camdaman1621 Arguably 😅
My teachers would never let me write a history paper on The Silmarillion. They didn’t understand
As a substitute teacher I say: change angle. Make a comparison between the Old Testament and Silmarillion. Or make a comparision between Numenor and Platon*s version Atlantis. Or say that it is a lingvistic analysis. :P
@@Max1990Power I did that I wrote w ren page paper comparing the silmarillion and Old Testament
Daniel: “Silmarillion Summary”
Me, an intellectual: “Summarrillion”
My favourite story.. spent several happy summers as a kid with Beren and Luthien
Please do the tragedy of Hurin and his kids next. Turin's story is wonderfully sad.
My favorite Tolkien book.
Hot take here my guy.
Beren and Lúthien is the greatest love story of all time
I teared up a bit when I visited the graves of jrr tolkien and Edith, it has the names engraved onto their tombstones
Gobby King has bringed us summaries? This is a content line that I can Get Behind
"For the spirit of Beren at her bidding tarried in the halls of Mandos, unwilling to leave the world, until Luthien came to say her last farewell upon the dim shores of the Outer Sea, whence Men that die set out never to return...But Luthien came to the halls of Mandos...and she knelt before Mandos and sang to him. The song of Luthien before Mandos was the song most fair that ever in words was woven, and the song most sorrowful that ever the world shall hear. Unchanged, imperishable, it is sung still in Valinor beyond the hearing of the world, and listening the Valar are grieved. For Luthien wove two themes of words, of the sorrow of the Eldar and the grief of Men...And As she knelt before him her tears fell upon his feet like rain upon the stones; and Mandos was moved to pity, who never before was so moved, nor has been since.”
My family's friends just had a baby girl and they named her Luthien.
Edit: thank you dor the heart!
There is no heart.
If you edit a comment it removes the heart
@@illiantear That's hilarious and very karmic. I wish Reddit would do that with Gold.
@@illiantear well crud.
More content of lotr is always welcomed
I just finished Fellowship of the Ring for the first time, PERFECT TIMING!!
Did you enjoy it?
@@davidwhitney2908 I did! Very enjoyable through the first third of the series. I’m really enjoying the atmosphere of Middle Earth and the immersion of the world with all the lore, illustrations, and poems. Great so far!
@@mitchsimoes1305 you have no idea how happy that makes me. I can't count the number of times I've read the series and am glad to welcome you to the fandom 😁
I’m on my second reread for the whole trilogy.
@@davidwhitney2908 aw thanks!! I can’t wait to finish the whole thing soon and make a video where I can gush all about it 😂😂
I’ve always been hesitant to read the Silmarillion, but after this summary I might have to read it. And that gif of the owl sneaking across made me laugh so much,
Hope you have read, it still my fav book, epic from start to finish.
5:47 There are several Metalbands named Carcharoth.
Its a fun drinking game to always take a shot whence a Metalband is named in the Movies!
Yes!! You have no idea how happy i am to see you making silm content! Beren and Luthien are such a powercouple, kicking the arse of whoever gets in their way (Not only morgoth and sauron but also celegorm and curufin, those bastards lmao) and yet having such a heartbreaking and poetic element to their story. There´s a reason why the story of Luthien singing for Mandos for him to release Beren is so legendary in Arda.
My favorite part of that story is where Luthien, after she and Huan make Sauron their bitch, sings down the house at OG Minas Tirith looking for her man. Who doesn't want a beautiful Level 100 Bard for a bride?
Brilliant. Well done and a good summary. Looking forward to the next video.
Imagine if someone knew Colbert personally and was like, “Can you narrate a story on Daniel Green’s CZcams channel?”
I'm such a sap, I love the fact that Elves can die of a broken heart and/or sadness...its adorable.
That was honestly very good!
If he made a series like that summarizing classic stories and fair tails, I'd be all about it!
I can feel my unread copy of The Silmarillion staring at me in contempt as I watch this video.
The solution to that is within your grasp!
@@stephenbarrett8861 it is...
I LOVED this video. I’d very much enjoy seeing more of this. Beren and Lúthien is easily one of my favorite stories ever.
Solid Tag Team Daniel. Love the summary too. Got a real soft spot in my heart for the Silmarillion.
I absolutely ADORE this story, from the moment I read Aragorn's song in Fellowship. It was the main reason I sought out the Silmarillion and the History of Middle-Earth. Such an epic, awesome tale.
Really nice summary. Please do Turin next.
Loved it, really put a smile on my face. Would really enjoy to see a breakdown of the Years of the Lamps.
Prof. Craig: talks
Me: Stares at his bookshelf like a giddy child
Good job trivializing a great story.
That was incredible!
Easily one of my Top 10 Literary Couples. Theirs and Aragon and Arwen's and how it ties in so personally with Tolkien and his wife Edith is just so beautiful to me. 💕
Having a second to think about it.... Beren holding the Silmaril up to the Wolf is a REALLY good comparison to Sam with the Phial of Galadriel.... given that phial holds the light of Earendil, who sails the skies with that same Silmaril on his brow. What a wild connection to make across thousands of years of lore.... god I love Tolkien lol
"Silmarillion Summary" those are BOLD words. Also, we need more Númenor content
I noticed your The One Ring tattoo! I was wanting to do one myself. Very cool
Well, time to listen to Clamavi De Profundis adaptations
_again_
No joke-I finished my first read through of the silmarillion earlier today. ❤️ call me crazy but I enjoyed it.
Just Amazing content.
This is good content. I like this content.
Love this
A series I didn't know I neeeded
Holy shit this is awesome! I just started Legendarium with their Wheel of Time episodes, don't mind if I do sub to their channel. More of this!
rich evans as the elf maiden.... epic... 10/10 would watch
this story sounds so metal its awesome :P
I love this story so much. To this day, it's my favorite love story of all time!
My nerdy senses are tingling so hard right now!
Children of Hurin next please 🙏
This was beatiful. I always was curios about this.
Also, Pips
Oh my goodness I love this!!!!!
Happy to see tweed jacket professor Craig
I’m so exited for this series. I want to see Daniel do one by himself though.
OKAY OUCH 😭😭😭🤣🤣🤣
@@TheLegendarium love the podcast btw.
👀👀 I did not expect a new Tolkien video.
👍♥️ i had a copy for 4 years, i must read it now!
Keep doing this! Maybe the Children of Hurin next!
I'm literally reading through Beren and Luthien right now. Like I just set down my book and turned on my computer... BAM! Daniel!
It cracks me up how this proper English gentleman was more metal than most metal bands.
This chapter in The Silmarillion is my all time favorite chapter of any book. It’s incredible and breathtaking.
Beren is my favorite character in the Silmarillion, he is awesome.
Agh! He left out the part when Huan had Saur-wolf pinned and Luthien straight commanded him to turn over control of his tower. She is such a bad ass.
All of the Silmarillion. Please and thank you.
Lord of the Mysteries!
Will keep commenting until one day i see a review! lol.
In this video, we have 2 of the 20 people in CZcams that really read the Silmarillion. Awesome, I truly love it hahahaha.
5:54 the sneaky owl 🤣
More Silmarillion videos pls
0:41 caught me off guard a bit but excellent video
Hey @Daniel, you ever come across the BBC radio drama of LOTR? I loved it.
Thanks @Daniel Greene for this really nice video!!!!
Btw if you want to know more about the story working up to Beren and Lùthien but don't want to read the entire Silmarillion because....well it's the Silmarillion, the channel @Voice of Geekdom does a chapter by chapter summary of the entire Silmarillion. It's really worth checking out!
Hey, that is a known voice, i knew this would be a collab with Craig
Hey Daniel, if you can do like a monthly or even fortnightly video such as the Dragonheart video, that would be awesome. That is the best content.
Ppl: Tolkien can't write interesting or powerfull or deep women...
Luthien: Hold my beer... Imma lie to the lord of lies, brb.
Luthien and Huan carried this chapter
Luthien sacrifice for beren always makes me cry.
What’s you’re review on doctor sleep?
All of them, I barely remember since it's been years and no I am reading it for the 8th time
Started reading the Silmarilion and just read through this part. I gotta say Huan is the absolute goodest of boys.
A story told about stories - by people who love stories. Not the worst way to spend time, at all. :)
1.The Children of Húrin
2.The Fall of Gondolin
3. War of the great jewels
my favorite story in the Sillmarillion
Children of hurin next!
I read The Lay of Aotrou and Itroun in a closed library on a rainy Sunday. Perks of dating the maintenance engineer of a library system.
Does anybody know the outro song ?
Rich Evans...he's the elf maiden of MY heart.
This is why we follow on Twitter. CZcams notifications never work fast enough.
I’m 11 and am getting my first horror book today I’m gonna get the shining
Supreme
If anyone ever says that Tolkien hasn't created any decent female characters, I'll always point them towards Lúthien Tinúviel.
ahhhhhh geek scream. please make a ballad for my favourite Beleg Cuthalion. Beren & Luthien, Tristan & Isolde Robin Hood & Marion
My magic bookstore had a copy of the Silmarillion with THE most beautiful cover I've ever seen. I bought it for R25 which in $ I think is just less than $2. It's still in a good condition despite being a used book and this makes me want to read the Middle Earth books Sooooo bad.
Figures Pips emerges for the story with the most doggos ever. He is a curious beast.
Ooh this is cool. It's been ages since I read that thing, and while it was loads of fun, I don't intend to do it again.
the Silmarillion is my favorite book ever. I love it more than Lotr.
The light from the Phial of Galadriel is the light from that same Silmaril.
Nice catch!
@@TheLegendarium when I was about 10 I used to play as Tulkas fighting Morgoth in my back garden. I’m a bit of a Tolkien nerd.
Either the Ainulindalë or the story of Feanor. I feel like both are really important to the Silmarillion as a whole, and set up key plot points for the rest of the book. The former introduces Morgoth and his place in Middle Earth (most casual Lord of the Rings fans are only familiar with Sauron, and when introduced to Morgoth are like "wait, what? who?"), the latter introduced the Silmarils and their importance to the world as a whole (books literally named after them). I feel like an understanding of Morgoth and the Silmarils should be established before delving into any of the other stories.
I'd also like to see a deep dive into Galadriel, and all of her versions and rewrites in LotR, Silmarillion, and Unfinished Tales
Which story next? Maybe how Feanor created Silmarils and what where the consequences of creating them, or how Elves appeared in Middle-Earth or what was Melkor doing in M-E before Elves appeared there.
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
