Like you, i approach the 50 years old and I fall in love of Green day with Dookie, it was in... 1993 or 1994 and for a band critized in the past, exactly like Nirvana, for be a band who played basic music but 35 years later, they're still here even if they had the intelligence to included Jason white as lead guitar who is a talented lead guitarist !

Yes! I was in middle school when this came out. It was with me through high school, college, and the activist years of my younger adulthood during the W Bush years, and now as I get closer to 40 I'm cyncal AF. This song has a special place in my heart for sure.

When i first heard this back in 1997, minus the naughty words , one of first things i noticed was how punchy the bass is 🤘😁
It's because he plays with a pick instead of fingers
That’s always been something that set Green Day apart (at least on everything up through “Warning”, although it’d still pop up occasionally later) was how they recorded the bass really hot to tape, and also mixed it up live. Even the first 2 indie records, but part of why “Longview” was such a breakthrough for them was people going “wtf? Is this like…borderline jazz bass playing on a song about being a stoned, unemployed loser jerking off who doesn’t give a fuck, before the chorus just blows it all aside??” Very underrated player.

I can't tell if these songs are remastered or not. They sound different, but it may be placebo...
FWIW, this channel also has a video that is called a "demo" version of this song. Maybe that's what you're used to. It's reeeeaaaallllly similar. I was initially going to shit on it for just being the same track mixed differently, but I think there are some very subtle differences.
